Three Hearts / Chapter Twenty-Six: No Escape
Three Hearts
  • They all just stood together thinking. But they just couldn't figure anything out…it was quite difficult to devise a plan to travel to the Unknown, find Odile's layer, and put a stop to the curse of the Blue Fireflies. They knew it sounded so perilous. Yet, it was not too hard to track it down. This was the reason Athena wanted to work an IPS monitor device. She wanted to find out more about the strange phenomenon.
  • Suddenly, Heli was taken by surprise as a terrifying shadow of a horned creature appeared and held him up high into the air. His screams were muffled. And just when he was going to be devoured…the Crimson Heart shined its light again. There was then a flash. Heli flew out of the creature's hand and ended up in Athena's arms with a loud yelp. They held onto each other tightly. And then…
  • "Where are we?" Shion questioned.
  • "I don't know," said Joan, "But we are not in Decelis Academy anymore, that's for sure."
  • The group then found the couple still embracing each other. Heli lifted his head up.
  • "Where do you suppose-" and then, he looked at Athena.
  • She was unconscious. Frantically, he put her down flat on the ground. But Athena woke up.
  • "W-what are you doing?" she asked.
  • Heli stammered.
  • "I'm sorry," he said, "I thought you passed out."
  • "I did for a little bit…however, as I felt your hands on me, I knew it was you. I had to wake up."
  • Dabi looked in the distance.
  • "I don't think we have gone far…look!"
  • They looked at Riverfield in the distance. But there was a dome surrounding everything, securing it in place.
  • "We're outside!" said Athena, "But we were never allowed to escape!"
  • "It's because of Athena’s necklace," said Looisha, "When the shadowy creature was about to consume her boyfriend, it glowed and it somehow transported us to the outside of the city."
  • Athena clutched on the crystal.
  • "What's important is that we are safe now." said Odette, "But still, we need to do something about the firefly stuff."
  • Heli scratched his head, "But what kind of monster was that?"
  • "Yeah," Shion added, "We know he was human at first."
  • "But when he touched the firefly…" Odette shuddered.
  • "So many things happened today…and we can't figure them out." Heli said.
  • "But," said Athena, "At least we almost know what’s going on. Now all we have to do is find the reason for the cause…and find a way to stop it. But it won't be easy."
  • We are still intact, Athena thought, My necklace had teleported us…and now we are seeing the Wall in person! Such disirony!
  • Athena looked down at her hands…and suddenly, there was the last book of Refugia in them. Everyone was shocked.
  • "That's the last novel of Refugia! But how?" exclaimed Joan.
  • "Well, it didn’t have a library seal so I borrowed it for a bit, and also, I think both the book and necklace are connected, so it could explain why it's in my hands."
  • "But you can't just take it like that!" exclaimed Sena.
  • "But it doesn't have a library seal," said Heli, "How could she not take it?"
  • "Anyways, look here! It says something about breaking the curse of the island of where the Blue Fireflies supposedly originate."
  • Looisha had gasped.
  • But this is…
  • "My grandmother's handwriting!" she blurted.
  • All eyes were on Looisha.
  • "So-" Athena stammered.
  • "Yes…" said Looisha, "I am one of the founders of Refugia."
  • Athena thought.
  • "The name of your grandmother is…Kim…right?"
  • "Yes. She used her powers to form the Crimson Heart and the book you are holding."
  • "Tell me if this is true: was she the one to form Refugia along with two other pioneers Boton and Ark? And did she really die in a suspicious freak accident?"
  • Looisha nodded.
  • "Yes…" said Looisha, "But the two male pioneers that founded Refugia, Boton and Ark, still take over Refugia and Monterey County to this day."
  • "And are they the ones that created the IPS system? The one that is on my computer?" asked Odette.
  • "No," said Joan, "Vincent Kim was the one to make it."
  • "But I don't understand!" Looisha exclaimed, "Why would my granny write something like this?!"
  • Athena put her hand on Looisha's shoulder and said, "We may not know much about the fireflies, but I think I know the meaning about the island. It could be a place and should exist somewhere."
  • Luckily, Odette had the IPS on her laptop. She opened it and said, "There it is, it's registered on the IPS system!"
  • Heli was confused.
  • "Strange," he said, "The terrain is not appearing on the screen. Normally on these kinds of things, they would route on the GPS with detail."
  • "Could this be another part of the phenomenon we are with at the moment?" asked Shion.
  • "It could be," said Athena. "Hmm…it does not seem far."
  • She looked at the distance the IPS was pointing at.
  • "We should go." she said.
  • "What?" Odette asked.
  • Athena jumped further back, "Uh, nothing! I was just talking to myself."
  • "Maybe we should set out," said Heli, "I think that is where Odile may have gone to perch."
  • "Well it doesn't sound like a bad idea." said Joan.
  • "Weird," said Dabi, "We were terrified just then…but look at us now! We are determined."
  • Athena eventually gave in, "I guess going on a little adventure wouldn't be the worst idea ever."
  • Meanwhile, a Raven flew all the way to the lair deeper away from Refugia and Monterey County. There was then a hooded female figure. The black bird then landed on her wrist. They both found the falling lights of the blue fireflies. The hooded figure snarled.
  • "The light," she said, "Someone must have found the Crimson Heart!"
  • She turned to her Raven.
  • "My dear pet…you must send word to Boton and Ark…tell them whoever is holding the Heart…no matter WHAT!"
