The Sound of Music
  • Eunice wriggled out of Sung-hoon's arms.
  • "I really should rest," she said, "I have school tomorrow."
  • "I'm sure Jae-yun would love to come and pick you up after school."
  • "Jae-yun? I think that would be too much trouble, since he has more hours in school. And also, I preferred if I rode a bike back home."
  • "But did you know that Jake also rides a bike, too?"
  • Eunice scoffed, "How could I forget?"
  • Jake peeked his head out the door of his room. He smiled at Eunice.
  • How could I forget that she is such a sweet girl?
  • Spring break went by for a week. And now it was time to get back to the swing of things. It was not easy for Eunice to take. In Independence Academy, all of the students were donning their school uniforms and walking into class with their accessories to complete their uniforms. For Eunice, she was simple and only wore white tennis shoes.
  • Mr. Lee, Eunice's favorite teacher of the school, had an announcement to make.
  • "Class," he said, "Next week is our end of the year field trip to California. I want everybody to pack only important things that you think you need for the flight there. Like sunscreen, or proper clothing, and such. Also, I wouldn't suggest taking a coat or a jacket. California is known for its boiling hot weather."
  • "Doesn't it swelter here?" Eunice asked.
  • "Of course it does," said Mr. Lee, "But I'm saying that it only either rains or shines in California. The only place to get snow would be in the mountains."
  • Eunice sat alone in the school's outdoor lunch terrace. Next door was the ISU (International Seoul University). In one particular window, she saw what appeared to be Sim Jae-yun, doing his homework in his dormitory. Eunice admired his features.
  • I could see how beautiful his eyes are, even if I'm in the distance.
  • As he wrote, Eunice barely noticed him flipping his front hair. Eunice sighed in admiration. But then, Niki pounced right behind her back.
  • Eunice squealed.
  • "What are you doing?!" she asked.
  • "Sorry," said Niki, "I just thought you were distracted, that's all."
  • "Well you interrupted my moment watching over someone that I like."
  • "Let me guess, it's Sim Jae-yun." scoffed Niki, putting his hands on his hips.
  • "No, it's not Jae-yun, I don't even like him at all!"
  • Eunice had become flustered as her cheeks blushed into a bright red.
  • "You like him, don't you?" "Okay...maybe just a little."
  • Eunice turned to the same window. But Jae-yun was nowhere to be seen. She then frowned.
  • "And now I've missed the chance to see him cast off to his next class."
  • After school, she ran out to the bike racks near the entrance. She untied the wire that held the bike in place, and soon rode home. On the way, she rode by ISU. But she saw the students departing the building.
  • Strange, she thought, I thought they don't get out until three in the afternoon.
  • And then, out came Jae-yun and Sung-hoon together.
  • In a flash, Eunice immediately rode away without stopping. She then arrived at the apartment, tied her bike to the racks, and made a run for the elevator. As she saw the two boys entering the apartment,
  • Damn, I forgot they are my neighbors!
  • She didn't want to be seen by anyone. As a result, she took the service stairs, and ran as fast as she could. As soon as she reached the fourth floor, she was already filled with exhaustion.
  • She huffed and puffed from her tired chest. After she caught her breath, she heard the sound of two familiar people.
  • Knowing that it was Jae-yun and Sung-hoon, Eunice at first struggled to open the door to her room. After a few more tries, she succeeded. She closed the door and locked it tight. After all of the fuss she had made, Eunice then plopped on to her bed and took a nap.
