The next day, Eunice was outside the lunch terrace at Independence Academy. But she didn’t have much time to play with the other students. She wanted to focus on herself.
But suddenly, through the distance, she thought to hear the sound of beautiful music.
She then looked over to the building of ISU…and then she saw the distance of what seemed to be Jae-yun playing the violin.
It was strange, because there didn’t seem to be any other activity going on in any other place of the university. Eunice could only focus on the movements she had found beautiful in Jae-yun.
“He’s so beautiful!” she sighed.
Eunice clutched onto her book bag, as if it was a pillow that she could scream in. She then smiled and waltzed around the terrace. And then, Niki then stood in front of her, startling her in the process.
Eunice gave a yelp.
“Oh my, frick! You literally scared me!” she screamed.
Niki snickered.
“I’m sorry,” he said, “Jungwon said you were acting a bit weird just then and wanted me to check on you.”
Eunice blushed.
“Oh…okay? I’m fine now. So…there is nothing wrong going on.”
After school, Eunice was about to ride her bike home when suddenly, Sung-hoon rode right beside her.
Eunice noticed and rode faster than Sung-hoon. She then encountered Jake riding right beside her.
She then spotted the apartment and took a very sharp turn. After quickly parking the bike outside she rushed inside and went up all the way from the service stairs. And again…she came back to her room exhausted.
But just when she was about to open her door, Jake eventually found Eunice. But Eunice immediately went inside her room.
Jake knocked at the door.
My god, this boy!
Eunice then opened the door reluctantly. Jake had a slightly disappointed expression on his face. Eunice noticed that Jake’s hand was on his hips too. She rolled her eyes and then leaned on the side of the door.
“Why were you running away from me?” Jake asked.
Eunice could not bear it any longer.
“I’m sorry,” she said, “I had to make a phone call at a specific time, and I don’t have a phone…only the room phone.”
“But why were you running away from me?”
“That was the reason.”
Jake sighed.
“I don’t understand, though,” he said, “My friend Sung-hoon said that you were trying to get away from me. I was worried about you. He and I were.”
“But…why are you doing this? Why are you asking me?”
Jake pulled the girl into his arms.
“My mum is concerned about you.” he said in a gentle voice, caressing her head.
“Why would your mum be concerned about me?”
Jake held Eunice tightly.
“Because she was on the phone with your mother and they were having a big fight about your grades.”
“Why?”
“My mother said that your mother does not appreciate the efforts that you make at the school. And your mother thinks you are a failure. So…that’s why.”
Eunice began to tear up. She then choked a sob.
“It’s okay,” Jake shushed, “They won’t hurt you.”
“They are!” Eunice blubbered through sobs and gasps, “They are! They never let me come up this close with someone! They will never stop until I am not rebellious…anymore!”
Eunice eventually lost it. She broke down crying atop Jake’s chest. The boy felt bad for his new friend. Soon enough, Eunice was able to calm down.
“I’m sorry that you have to go through all of that,” Jake said, “I want to help you. I really do.”
“And how are you going to do that?” Eunice sniffled.
Jake stammered.
“Well…I want to come with you…on your school trip.”
Eunice leaped out of Jake’s arms.
“How did you know about my end-of-the year trip?”
“Because, Niki messaged Sung-hoon about it, and then Sung-hoon messaged me about it. So…there you go.”
Eunice could not understand.
“But…I don’t understand why you want to–”
“I want to be your boyfriend!”
Eunice bulged her eyes wide open.
“Okay, you want to, WHAT?!”
Jake then facepalmed himself.
“I want to date you! I’m sorry…but…you are so young for going on a trip that is somewhere else and especially if you have tiger parents that literally abuse you 24/7. I want to protect you! And my mum said that me and you would be perfect together. I’ll never know unless it’s true.”
Eunice was in euphoria. She stood still frozen.
He wants to…*gulp* date me? Oh, my god!
“Well,” Eunice said, “*cough* *cough* I don’t know what to say about that.”
“Just accept it,” said Jake, “My mother and father worry about you constantly. I don’t want to worry them to death, and neither do you.”
Eunice had no other choice to make. And so…she slowly nodded her head. Jake gave a light smile, pulled her in his arms, and kissed the top of her head.
