Dear Journal,
We have put on a sensational performance at the convention today.
I was working on that performance yesterday. It was the choreography for three songs (‘I Want it That Way’ by Backstreet Boys, ‘Sometimes’ by Britney Spears, ‘The Tide is High’ by Atomic Kitten).
Additionally, I’ve added a song called “Hello Hi”, for our big finale!
Ashley came into my room, and said, “Sabrina, are you okay? You looked upset!”
“I’m alright, thank you,” I said, “I’m actually happy that you’re going!”
“Okay…I’ve got my eye on you!”
As soon as Ashley left the room, I got straight back to work. Once I was done, there was a knock on the door. I heard someone asking Ashley if I was home.
“Come one in!” Ashley said.
I don’t care if it’s Ronan again, as long as no one comes up and asks me what I’m doing.
I was half right.
“Gottfried’s here, Sabrina!”
“Okay, I’ll be down soon!”
Before I went down, I began talking to my old bestie Claire von Schotz.
SabrinaHeya, I just want to know how you’re doing. That’s all! 😃
ClaireOMG! Hey there Sabrina! I’m doing great! How are things going in England?
SabrinaGood, so far! Have you heard about this book convention? Ashley’s going.
ClaireYes! I heard the rest of the cast of Marcellus is going to be there. Me and the 6 kids in the club are coming. Are you?
ClaireOkay, cool! What time does it start?
SabrinaIt starts at 8:30am. And the first part starts at 9:00am; it’s the opening ceremony. The next part is the cupcake contest, which starts at 9:35am. After that, 10:00am is the performance segment; ours starts with “Sometimes” by Britney Spears, “The Tide is High” by Atomic Kitten, “I Want it That Way” by Backstreet Boys, and finally for our big finale, “Hello Hi!” And that’s all for entertainment events. The rest of the day, you can check out everything. Since it’s a book convention, a lot of people are dressing as different characters. Any more questions?
ClaireNope! Sounds like it’s going to be fun!
“Sabrina, are you almost done?” Ashley asked.
“Yup, almost!” I responded.
So I messaged:
SabrinaI’ve just finished organizing the choreography for all of the three songs. I sing “Hello Hi”. Will you join me? Please? Pretty please? Triple Please???
Claire responded right away after my pleas; she said yes.
And then I came downstairs. Gottfried smiled…and then frowned.
“You can’t go to the convention either, can’t you?”
“Nope!”
“Who denied you?”
“No one, I was just told I’m not going.”
I felt bad for him, but I remembered my performance for the event.
“I am currently working on a performance for one of the segments. and I–”
“I’ll do it!” Gottfried said, “Whatever you’re planning on, I can do it.”
“Cool!”
We got to work quickly. Ronan’s big brother and sister were a part of our event, too!
We rehearsed all day. Our first rehearsal was at a park. We sang so loud, the park goers thought we were performing for them. Peri heard about this and we decided to squeeze her in the performance.
We rehearsed, and rehearsed, and rehearsed, until today was our time for the show! We got our costumes put together, and we rehearsed…one more time.
And then we took a bus to the studios where the convention was held. It was mainly an outdoor one.
The first event was the speeches. All of my friends gave their speeches. I didn’t want everybody to know I was there, so I had to change my name.
“And now for our final speech, let’s have Anne-Marie say some words.”
“Anne-Marie” was my fake name. And this doesn’t count as a “speech”, but I sang a moving version of O, Flower of Scotland.
It got the whole convention in tears. It was in F-major, so that’s why everybody quickly bursted into tears. But my friends were actually the big crybabies.
After everyone dried their tears, it was almost time for the cupcake contest.
I made sure Finnegan was holding the camera at the correct position, and I also told the host I was having him film the contest for a “school website” (she didn’t know I was literally telling the truth).
“Ready, steady, GO!”
The contest began! As everyone else, I followed the same recipe. I snuck in my secret tips for the cupcakes. Even a little bag of yeast.
“Well, what’s wrong with a little cheat?” I asked myself, “After all, I am an ‘excellent baker’.”
I gave off a smirk…and went mixing as fast as I could. And so, after 30 minutes of our time, the real contest was trying them and voting them. I tried the cupcake from Ronan’s team.
“Mm,” I said, “Not bad! It’s a little gloopy, but not bad!”
And then he hugged me and tearfully said, “Oh, thank you, madam! You don’t know how much this means to me, thank you! I love you, I love you, I love you, I–”
And Kaylie and Melanie looked at him…with…the most hilarious scowl…I’ve ever seen! I died laughing! When they tried my cupcake, their reaction was priceless!
“Wow!” Melanie said, “This is really good! How did you do it?”
“Well, I’m a bit of an expert at baking, but only a little.”
And the winner was…ME!
Everyone cheered and applauded.
And then it was 10:00am, the performance segment! Or the Talent Show.
It took place at Stage 32, and there was a huge stage inside. Ashley and Ronan did some kind of waltz. But I knew we could top them off!
It was our turn to perform! And in the end, I struck a pose, and we got an outstanding ovation!
I didn’t buy anything from the convention. I didn’t want anyone noticing. And I made sure we wouldn’t post anything to the media.
So, when I got home, I took a nap because I was completely exhausted from performing and walking. 20 minutes later, Mom and Ashley came home and brought one of my other favorite dinners: Four cheese lasagna!
And then we lived happily ever after…for today. I’ll write to you soon.
All the best, Sabrina.
