Side by Side, Eye to Eye
  • Dear Journal,
  • I’m still mad at Ronan after our big fight. But on Sunday, I met the woman that was at the studios.
  • I was watching Melenie and Ronan getting praised by a group of fans. I watched it close to a café shop…eating a croissant…full of sorrow.
  • Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a woman and a boy walking toward and sitting on my table.
  • “Who are you?” I asked, “You look familiar.”
  • “My name is Lady Jane, or Jane van Dijk”
  • “Lady Jane?”
  • “The author of 'Marcellus'.”
  • “Really?”
  • “Yes, really!” said the boy along with Lady Jane.
  • I sort of told them about the incident when we had that argument, because he called us "stupid"!
  • “Ronan Ó Foghladh, he’s the one who’s playing the lead role, right?”
  • “Yup, and, get this, he called us stupid!"
  • “You just said that!”
  • “I’m sorry, I was trying to make sure you got the concept.”
  • “Oh, okay!”
  • “And who’s this guy next to you?”
  • “This is my brother Kristoff!”
  • “Nice to meet you!”
  • “And what is your name?”
  • “I’m Sabrina Watterson!”
  • “Gottfried will love you!”
  • “Who’s Gottfried?” I asked, “I've never heard anyone with that name before!”
  • “Gottfried is our younger brother,” Kristoff said, “And he’s about your age.”
  • “I’d like to meet him. Where is he at?”
  • “He is at a bookstore near here.”
  • “He likes to read books?”
  • “Yep!” Lady Jane said.
  • “Can I call him?”
  • “Sure!” Lady Jane replied.
  • I dialed the digits on my phone from Lady Jane’s.
  • I heard 4 rings…and someone answered, “Hello?”
  • “Um,”
  • “Hello?”
  • “Is this, um, Gottfried van Dijk?”
  • “Yep! Who is this?”
  • “Oh, I…this is…Sabrina Watterson.”
  • “Um, okay…is my sister there?”
  • “Yeah, she’s right here!”
  • “May I…speak with her?”
  • “Sure!”
  • I handed my phone to Jane; a couple of minutes later, she hung up.
  • “Is there something wrong?”
  • Jane shook her head and then said, “Gottfried said he’s on his way here.”
  • We waited; the crowd still praised Melenie and Ronan. I saw a boy in a hoodie walking up towards our table.
  • “Is that him?” I asked.
  • “Yep!” Kristoff said.
  • The boy reached to the table.
  • “Gottfried, right?”
  • “Yes!”
  • He looked at me as if he was in love or something.
  • “How are you?”
  • “Good, you?”
  • “Just fine!”
  • I smiled.
  • Gottfried looked at me in awe.
  • “You look…”
  • “Yes?”
  • “…Beautiful?”
  • “Aw, that’s sweet of you!” I said.
  • And then I heard the crowd squeal; Melenie was lifting Ronan! I was about to cry.
  • “Oh, god, I wish someone would lift me!”
  • In a flash, Gottfried pulled me, spun me, dipped me, and then lifted me. That got everyone’s attention, including Melenie and Ronan.
  • “You got your wish!” Gottfried said.
  • “Do you know I’ve got a thing for boys in hoodies?”
  • “Nope!”
  • “Good!”
  • Gottfried carried me back to the table, “Oohs” and “Ahhs” flew in.
  • I told Gottfried what happened to me and my sister Ashley.
  • “Isn’t Ronan a nice guy? Sure he gets a bit upset most times, but he’d never do things like that!”
  • “You know him?”
  • “I’ve seen his Instagram page. I follow him.”
  • “Okay, can you talk to him, please?”
  • “Sure!”
  • “Oh, thank you, Gottfried, you’re so kind!” I said when I hugged him, “Hopefully, we can put this right.”
  • I called Gottfried again on Monday.
  • “Hey, Gottfried, how are you doing?”
  • “Good, you?”
  • “Just fine”
  • “Reason why you’re calling me?”
  • “No, I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
  • “Okay!” *pause* “Um, Gottfried,”
  • “Yea?”
  • “Now that we have each other’s phone number, you do know you can call me anytime, right?”
  • “Sure!”
  • “Okay, call me back soon.”
  • “Bye!”
  • “Bye…one question,”
  • “Yea?”
  • “Have you talked to Ronan yet?”
  • “Not yet, but I wrote down everything about what you said, so I’ll remember what to tell him.”
  • “Oh! Okay, thank you!”
  • “You’re welcome!”
  • “Goodbye!”
  • “Bye!”
  • As soon as I hung up the phone, I started crying, feeling so angry, and less of a person.
  • So today I took a walk on my own, hoping things would turn out soon.
  • All the best, Sabrina.
