  • The school day passed by in a blur and by the time the day was over, I was exhausted and ready to go home. I dragged myself back to my dorm room and was about to go to sleep when I got a notification.
  • The notification said:
  • Congratulations lucky student! You are the winner of the raffle prize competition for this school year. You have won 2 tickets to a special event! You and one person of your choice will be attending. Come by the administrative office to collect your prize. Warning: The tickets cannot be exchanged for monetary value and if you ever decide not to go, the ticket will be voided.

  • ...
  • When did I sign up for a raffle drawing? As I was pondering on how I could have possibly entered, my phone rang.
  • "Hello?"
  • "Oh hi!" Once I hear the voice, I try my hardest not to curse. The person on the other end was Ae Ri, the backstabbing 'friend'. I keep quiet, hoping that she would get the hint and end the call. But no. She continues to talk.
  • "Did you see the raffle results yet? I got mine, but I didn't win. Did you?" I finally understand why she called. She must have entered me into the drawing to enhance her chances of winning. I wonder how she'll react when she hears that I won?
  • "Yes! I just got the results. I don't remember when I signed up for it, but I'm glad because I won!" I say in the fakest tone I could muster. If she wants to act like a b*tch, so can I.
  • "Oh my gosh! You actually won! Do you know what the prize is? Are you allowed to take another person? If you can, can you take me?!" She sounds so happy that I won, but I now know enough to realize that she only wants to use me.
  • "I'm so sorry! I already agreed to take my roommate with me. I hope you can understand. Maybe next time we can do something together." I apologize in an insincere way. I look at the time: 10:00. I groan inwardly as I regret even picking up the phone. I quickly try to find a way to rid myself of this torture. I smile as I find the perfect distraction.
  • "Ae Ri, can you help with my homework? I just don't get it."
  • "Sure, but that's kind of weird that you have homework on the first day of school. What is it?"
  • (A/N: Is it mean that I kind of imagine Ae Ri having a nasally voice? Idk, I just think that if fits her.)
  • "Thank you so much! It's an English passage that we have to translate. It says, "Fake people are like clouds. When they disappear, the day is much brighter. Do you know what that means?" I innocently ask as I purposely pick an English quote because I knew that Ae Ri would never understand what it means.
  • (A/N: I do NOT claim this quote. I'm not that cool, I just found it on the internet.)
  • "U-um... I'm sorry Jae, b-but something just came up. You'll just have to ask someone else to help you. Bye." She ends the call as fast as she can, obviously because she didn't understand a word that I'd said. At least I got rid of her.
  • I put my phone down and fall asleep, not having enough energy to shower. I'll just have to go to the administrative office before class tomorrow...
  • ____________________________________________________________
  • "Jae-Hwa, I missed you. Where have you been?"
  • I look up at the young boy as he hops around excitedly. I laugh at how red he's become, looking as if he's going to burst at any moment.
  • "I was at home remember? And so were you. There's no school on the weekend." I try not to laugh as I remind him again for the hundredth time why I wasn't at school.
  • I quietly look over his black hair and sparkling brown eyes as he runs around me. I'd had known him since I had enrolled in the school. He was the only one that talked to me since everybody had thought I had a virus or something.
  • The kids kept a distance from me and said I was weird looking. I admit that I do look different from them. I was American and they weren't so I should, right?
  • When I first met him, he was shy and could barely say a sentence without stuttering. Luckily now, we're closer and he's less shy. But there are times when I catch him just staring at me or turning really red. I ask him if he's warm or something, but he just finds excuses.
  • I'm in my last year of elementary school and the oldest one in my grade. Thankfully it's only by a year because I started school a late, but I'm happy that I came here.
  • I look up again and walk to my first class, waving goodbye to my friend. I silently thank my parents again for moving me here.
  • Because that's how I met him.
  • That's how I met Jungkook.
  • _________________________________________________________
  • "Beep! Beep! Beep!"
  • "Dammit Jae! Why the hell is your alarm set so early? Hurry and turn it the f*ck off so I can sleep!"
  • I wake up with a start and an angry roommate yelling. Most people would think that she curses a lot, but I'm used to it. I've decided that from now on, I will be best friends with my roommate, whom I still don't know the name to. I'll ask her later.
  • I rub my eyes as I grab clothes and head towards the bathroom, reminiscing of the dream that I'd had. It was about my childhood friend, Jungkook. He was the first friend that I'd made when I moved to Korea. We lost touch when he moved to Seoul for some small talent agency or something. I'm sure he forgot about me anyway.
  • 30 minutes later
  • I walk out of the shower, fully dressed and refreshed. I grab everything that I would need for my classes today and go towards the door but stop. I almost forgot.
  • "By the way, what's your name?"
  • "Me? Oh yeah, it's Cho Sun-Hi. I told you before, but you must have forgotten."
  • "Oh. Well, my name is Jae-Hwa, but you can call me Jae!" I say hoping to ease the nerves in my body. I feel guilty again, thinking of how bad I treated Sun-Hi. I hope she'll forgive me and allow us to be friends.
  • "I won some raffle ticket, and the prize is 2 tickets to some special event. Would you like to come with me?" I ask as politely as I can, hoping she'll say yes.
  • "Of course! I'd love to go with you. I'm kind of surprised that you aren't inviting that girl who is always with you but thank you for thinking of me!" She looks shocked but really happy that I invited her and I'm glad I did. I knew she would be a cool person to hang out with.
  • "No problem. We got off on the wrong start and I'm hoping we'll be able to be friends. Anyway, see you later. I need to go to the administrative office to pick up the tickets."
  • "Can I come with you? I was going to go for a walk anyway." She stutters out as she tries to find a good reason for asking to go with me. It was fine with me anyway, since she was going to have to get the second ticket.
  • I just continue walking and gestures for her to follow. She quickly slips on shoes, not even caring about her onesie pajamas that she was wearing.
  • 10 minutes later
  • The walk to the office wasn't that far and a whole lot easier since barely anybody was out. Sun-Hi and I stopped as we arrived at the door and took a quick glance at each other. About a few seconds passed and we burst out laughing. I don't know why we were laughing, but it was refreshing.
  • I took a deep breath and opened the door. What greeted me as I walked in was a small room with a desk in the middle, a man sitting behind it.
  • "Annyeonghaseyo! To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence on this fine morning?" The man says, a hearty laugh coming out. He honestly looked like he had nothing to do and I was a distraction.
  • "Annyeonghaseyo! My name is Choi Jae-Hwa and I'm here for the raffle prize. The message said that I needed to come here to pick the tickets up."
  • "Oh, you're the lucky prize winner? Congratulations for winning. I think most people around your age would love the prize. Now be careful with these. If you lose them, you will not be getting replacements." He warns as he hands me the tickets.
  • I take a look at them, wondering what they were. BTS? Who are they? The name sounds familiar, but I'm not sure where I've heard it before.
  • ____________________________________________________
  • "Noona!" Jungkook yelled with joy as he ran towards me. We had known each other for a couple years now, being in our first year of Baekyang Middle school. We had grown pretty close, and I was one of the only people that he could be himself with and not get shy.
  • He was my only friend, and I was fine with that. We were currently in the last period of the day, waiting for the bell to ring. Jungkook and I were planning to meet at the park after school because he apparently had something important to tell me. It seemed pretty serious, so I immediately agreed.
  • At the Park
  • "So Jungkook what did you want?" I ask as I nervously look at him to see him on the verge of tears. I start panicking, trying to figure out what could possibly make him cry.
  • "Noona, I know it might be hard to hear what I'm going to say, but just listen okay?"
  • "Oh my god! Jungkook you're not going to confess to me, right?!" I ask in horror, not knowing what to say if he does. He freezes and his entire face turns as red as a tomato. He looks at me and looks like he might say something, but he just shakes his head.
  • "No! I wasn't confessing! It would be weird anyway because we're friends, right?" I don't know why, but my heart starts hurting and I feel disappointed. Why would I feel sad because he only thinks of me as a friend. I don't like him in that way, so I shouldn't be feeling this way, right?
  • "And I told you to call me with a nickname. It's too late anyway." I was about to explain again why I think nicknames are cringy and should never be used, but I think back to the last thing he said.
  • "What do you mean 'it's too late'? Did something happen?"
  • "I wanted to tell you that I'm moving." His words stop what I was about to say and makes me look him in the eyes. It makes since why he was trying not to cry now. My eyes star watering and my voice shakes as I talk.
  • "Where are you moving? WHY are you moving?"
  • "I got scouted to be in a boy group for a company called Big Hit. They need me to move to Seoul to be closer to the company. I wanted to tell you because I probably won't be coming back to Busan for a while." His words make me immediately start obnoxiously crying.
  • At this point, I lost all of my dignity and just run up to him to hug him, not even caring about all of the snot I must be getting on his shirt. It seems like he doesn't care anyway because he's also too busy crying on my shirt.
  • He stands up straight and asks for my phone. I give it to him, wondering why he could possibly need it. I hear typing sounds and he gives it back to me. Before I can even look to see what he did, he gets a call from his mom, telling him to hurry so he can pack.
  • He looks at me, trying to hold in his tears and waves, walking in the direction of his house. I wave back and watch him until he disappears. I look into my phone and see that he changed his contact name to 'Kookie'. I laugh and don't even mind the cringy name, only thinking about how much I'll miss him.
  • _____________________________________________________________
  • I remember my last moments with my best friend. We kept in touch for a couple years and the last text that he sent me was telling me the name of the group that he was in. It meant Bulletproof something, but my crappy memory failed me. I wonder if everything worked out for him. Not like I could ask anyway.
  • I dropped my phone in a puddle and broke it. I was angry with my klutzy self but after a while I forgot all about it. I ended up moving again for my dad's job. I'm not sure what he does exactly, just it has something to do with business. A shrill scream that should not belong to a human interrupt my thoughts.
  • "Oh! My! Gosh! BTS?!" Sun-Hi yells as she jumps up and down. She looks like a child who finally got a Christmas present that they actually wanted.
  • "I've been trying to get a ticket for like forever, but I could never find one that was cheap. Thank you so f*cking much Jae!" She tackles me to the ground, shaking me like a ragdoll. If this is how she is when she's happy, I'd hate to see her mad.
  • I tap out, hoping she'd let me breathe. She gets the message and apologizes while she lets go. She drags me out of the office, not even giving me a chance to thank the man in the office again.
  • She starts ranting on how we need to go shopping for clothes for the concert. I internally cringe when I think about shopping. Don't get me wrong, I love to shop and get new things. But one thing I've learned is that shopping with other people is time consuming.
  • She continues excitedly planning for the concert until she stops at my classroom. She says goodbye and literally skips to her next class, not even caring about the large number of people staring.
  • In class
  • I don't even care to pay attention or at least pretend to pay attention as the professor speaks. I'm good until next semester, since that's when I started failing. Speaking of failing, I should speak with my parents before the concert. I haven't seen them in months in this life.
  • After I finish my classes I go straight to my dorm, to be bombarded with affection from Sun-Hi. She says she'll thank me every day until the concert, thankfully with no tackling. The same thing is repeated day after day, until it's Friday and I decide it's time to visit my parents.
  • I wear an all-black outfit with black jeans, black crop top, and black converses. I take the bus, since I don't have a car and head towards my parents' house. I was always close to my parents until the part where we got into an argument. They tried to help me, but I didn't appreciate it. I thought they were trying to isolate me from the little 'friends' that I had but turns out they were just trying to help me.
  • I look up to see my stop coming up. I ring the bell and grab my stuff. I get out of the bus to see a huge 3 story house. My parents were well-off and are more financially stable, but I never asked for money. I got a job at a small cafe to provide for myself, not wanting to have to ask anyone for help.
  • I walk up to the door and mentally prepare myself, so I don't just break down crying when I see them. Before I can even knock, the door opens to reveal my mom looking surprised. I feel my breath hitch and tears form in my eyes.
  • "Hey Jae. What's wrong?! Why are you crying?!!" I step forward and hug her tightly, not being able to help myself. A few seconds later I stepped back, hoping that she wouldn't notice the big stain on her blue shirt.
  • She invites me inside towards the kitchen where my dad was seated. He was too busy writing some documents and drinking coffee, so he was startled when my mom cleared her throat. He looks behind her at me and jumps up from his seat. He quickly walks towards me and engulfs me in a hug.
  • He steps back and clears his throat, pretending the hug didn't just happen. I saw a faint blush on his cheeks as he looks away. He must be embarrassed. My parents were both American, but my dad's job has required them to be able to speak multiple languages. They only taught me them so I would be able to handle situations that required me to speak another language.
  • "It's been a while since we've seen you. What brings you hear?" My dad says as he composes himself. It has been a while since I've even spoken to them. Sometimes I wonder why I even have a phone if I'm not going to use it.
  • "I just really missed you guys. I wanted to see you." I say as I take a seat by my dad. He raised an eyebrow at my words, but I pretended I didn't see it.
  • My parents and I sat down together and talked for hours. We caught up on the stuff we missed from each other from the past months. Apparently, my dad got an invite to be a producer for some band. He decided that since I know a little about producing music, he would let me take the offer. I was going to decline the offer until I heard how much money they would offer.
  • He gave me an address to go to next month, so I can sign an NDA and get started. The company apparently wanted to collab on a new song for the band's new album that they would release the next year.
  • After I said goodbye and promised to call and text more often, I left to go back to school. When I got back, Sun-Hi was still up and waiting for me to get back. She said first thing tomorrow we will go to the mall to shop for outfits for the concert. I was already dreading it and wanted to plead with her to not go, but she looked so happy.
  • I gave a smile and said goodnight, getting ready for bed.
  • _______________________________________________________________
  • The next morning was a mess. Sun-Hi woke me up at 8 in the morning to get dressed so 'all the good dresses won't be stolen'. I groaned and got up stomping towards the bathroom. By the time I was out of the shower, Sun-Hi was ready to go.
  • She dragged me outside the room and to her car, throwing me inside and slamming the door. About 15 minutes later and a lot of whining from me, we pulled into a parking lot. I got out and grumbled again.
  • "Stop b*tching and let's go! We both need to find suitable outfits for the concert. I'm not about to meet my idols and not look like a snack!" She nags as she pulls me into the mall. I was about to tell her that even if she dressed up nice, there's no way they would see her. Our seats were in Area 5 and section 2. Unless these 'idols' had super vision, there's no way either of us will be seen.
  • We stopped at a clothing store and ran in. Sun-Hi squealed at the pretty dresses on the clothing racks and high-fived me that we were the only ones in there.
  • She piled tons of clothes into my arms and pushed me into the dressing room. She yelled at me saying to walk out of the closet like a movie montage, which I already hated the sound of. I put on the first outfit, a two piece with a black crop top and leather skirt. I took a deep breath and walked out. And the torture begins.

  • Sorry I took so long to publish this chapter! Don't blame me, blame YouTube! The BTS videos sucked me in, and I couldn't leave. I know this chapter is a little longer, but I wanted to write more. I decided to stop here and write the rest in the next chapter. Anyway, Thank You For Reading and Enjoy!
