Our Shining Days / Chapter Seven: The Perfect First Date
Our Shining Days
  • Early in the morning, Jake arrived at Miriam’s house. He was carrying a gift. It was a weekend. He had planned something special: a first date.
  • He walked up to the door and knocked, feeling a little nervous, knowing he was going to talk to her for the first time…again.
  • Mrs. Hammington answered the door and said with a warm smile, “Hello there, Jake! What a surprise!”
  • “Morning, Mrs. Hammington,” said Jake, smiling at her in return, “I’ve actually come to check on Miriam. If she still is sleeping at this hour.”
  • Mrs. Hammington stepped aside to let him in.
  • “Oh, no, Miriam accepted guests while sleeping in at this hour. Trust me, it was the same thing with her family back in Genovia. Please! Do come in!”
  • She led him in the house and towards Miriam’s big- sized bedroom.
  • “I’ll leave you to it, then.” she whispered, trying not to wake her daughter up.
  • She left him alone to chat with Miriam. Jake quietly entered her room and found Miriam herself, sleeping in her warm bed peacefully. Miriam knew he was at present and she turned away, trying to avoid communicating with him. He placed the gift next to the little table. He then sat down beside her and caressed her head.
  • “I just came to tell you that I’m sorry,” he said in a whisper, “In my honesty, I don’t know why I said what I said on Thursday. I guess I was so caught up with Yeji, that I had forgotten I had a band and a girl that I really liked. I didn’t mean to hurt you so much. So…instead of breaking free and reciprocating your feelings…I said that I thought the exact opposite of you. But just so you know, I truly think that you are one of the coolest girls in school and in my world. I know you are hating on me, but I wanted you to know. I really accept your feelings.”
  • As he stood up, he walked for the door. But he was not leaving.
  • “Also…I got you a little something. I hope you like it once you get dressed.”
  • Before he could walk out the door. Miriam stood up.
  • “Jake, wait,” she said, stopping him from leaving, “Even after confessing my love for you, and pinning you down with my foot so that you wouldn't run away, I could see it in your eyes, you were in need of help and that Yeji was abusing you.”
  • “I guess…I was blinded by this scandal, thinking I was actually dating her. But you confessing your feelings was the bravest thing you did. No other girl in school would have the guts to tell their crush how they felt about them.”
  • “I know,” said Miriam, “And…I’m sorry about using my foot to pin you down. I really don’t know what came over me.”
  • “Yeah,” Jake laughed, “You were very strong…and very scary. I guess those that have Autism have their own strength.”
  • Miriam smiled.
  • “And Jake…I love you. I really do.”
  • Jake sat beside her, patting the back of her head.
  • “I love you too.” Jake said, softly.
  • They moved closer…and they pressed their lips together like magnets. The perfect kiss.
  • Jake quickly pulled away and said, “I’ll let you get dressed. And while you’re at it, I got you something. It’s right beside your bed.”
  • He closed the door; after Miriam got dressed, she laid the gift right in front of her. It was big. In fact, it was the size of a shoe box. She opened it…and saw a beautiful pair of blue high heels.
  • Why…she thought, How thoughtful of him! He really is a sweet thing!
  • She then came downstairs in her new shoes.
  • “How did you know I wanted these?” Miriam asked.
  • “I saw you post about it on Instagram. So I knew exactly where to find them.”
  • “This is the sweetest thing a guy could ever do for me. To be honest, no other guy apart from you would do something this special for me.”
  • “I’m to have met you, Miriam. So…will you go out with me?”
  • “Just as long as Yeji can’t interrupt us.”
  • “Don’t worry, she has been grounded for at least two more days. Her father is a Genovian supporter, so he is against the use of discipline.”
  • “Then yes, I will be happy to go on a date with an ENHYPEN member.”
  • Miriam took hold onto Jake’s shoulder, and off they went for their first perfect date. And Miriam Hammington couldn’t be more than happier.
