Mellifluous / Chapter Seven
Mellifluous
  • “Where did you go?” your mother sat down the knife she has holding. She was cutting some vegetables for tonight’s dinner.
  • You smiled softly at her, and showed her your phone. Her eyes grew wide, and a bright smile grew on her face.
  • It was a picture of you and Namjoon. You making a peace sign, while Namjoon was sporting a bright smile. His dimples fully prominent, and his eyes closed shut. To say the picture was cute was an understatement. You looked like best friends already. You shared it with Jin a few minutes ago, and all he sent was “ ❤️❤️❤️“. He’ll surely make you two take more pictures from now on.
  • Your mom’s hand gently caressed your left cheek, before pinching it.
  • “I’m glad you made a new friend.” She said.
  • You only smiled, and nodded. It’s so strange making new friends in this world. One, because of your age, two, because of your situation where you’re studying in your home, and three, because you are probably the slowest one to participate in a conversation. You can’t hear anything, and you can only read lips for so long. Leading to there being the need to constantly write things and type things down. And unfortunately, not everyone has the patience for that.
  • Your mom signaled you that dinner was going to take a while, so you went ahead to change into more comfortable clothing.
  • While changing, you thought about Jin and Namjoon. How they will be forming a life of their own together. Will they leave further away? What if they stay here? Live in an apartment, or buy a house together? Namjoon mentioned how he was studying to become an engineer, a quite surprising reveal to you. Do engineers look so lovingly at plants? You were sure he was going to say something agricultural.
  • Jin, due to his lack of taste and smell, always joked about opening his own restaurant. Though that joke soon became an actual dream of his. Countless of recipe books, and YouTube videos were always present in his life. From aesthetically pleasing ASMR cooking videos, to cooking competitions on TV. You were there along with him, watching ( and drooling) delicious food be prepared from scratch.
  • Just you two messing around in the kitchen. His pink apron dusted with flour. Even his dark black hair had some spots of white. You always sat down to watch him. You were the taster, and the smeller. If anything was burning, you were the one to alert him. Since he couldn’t taste it, you were the one who would give the final word.
  • “Okay...how’s this?” Jin asked. Holding the spoon with whipped cream, close to you. He wanted you to try it.
  • “....” bringing the spoon to your mouth, you gave it a lick. After a few seconds, you nodded. It was perfect. Well, to you it was. Which was why you weren’t sure about helping him. He guided himself with your taste in food, and no one else’s.
  • Seeing you smile, he smiled back.
  • “Alright! Guess we can now decorate the cake.”
  • The soft material of your pajamas provided such comfort, that you automatically felt so relaxed. Nothing like being home, and in your room.
  • Your safe place. Especially your bed, which you loved. Laying down, you let out a sigh, and closed your eyes. You’ll relax a bit for a bit...
  • Everything would have been fine, until you suddenly felt your heart jump.
  • You gasped, sitting up. What was that?! It’s as if your heart thumped loud enough for you to hear! It felt fuzzy? A bit heavy? You were confused, and a bit concerned. You’ve never felt this before...
  • Your hand was automatically on your chest. Softly rubbing circles around where your heart is located. It was so strange. The feeling was fading, but it was taking some time. You got out of bed, and rush to tell your mother.
  • Jungkook looked out the window. He loved sitting next to the window, his mind would just wonder off along with the road. He could feel the warmth of Taehyung’s hand holding his, and he could hear Jimin giggle about something. Jimin may be the eldest of the three, but there was something so...cute about it. Both of his Hyungs, though being older, behave as if they were sometimes younger than Jungkook himself!
  • “...” turning his head to look at them, he sees that Jimin is showing Taehyung a video on his phone. Both sharing earbuds, as whatever they were listening to, was something funny. Taking a glance at the screen, Jungkook smiled, as the two were watching some meme compilation.
  • Taehyung giggled along with Jimin, after apparently hearing a man scream after being scared. Later Jimin would somewhat briefly explain what had happened. Making the brunette giggle more. His hand squeezing Jungkook’s at times, as if to make sure he was there.
  • “Our stop is coming.” Jimin announced. Taehyung nodded, while he removed his earbud. Jungkook lowered the volume of his music, and fixed his backpack. The trio ready to get off the bus, once it stopped.
  • Once off, Taehyung had suggested to go for ice cream. He even offered to pay for everyone. Neither Jimin or Jungkook declined to that. So here they were, making their way into the ice cream shop. It was a bit cold, and Jungkook lightly shivered.
  • “It’s cold.” Taehyung commented. Jimin only let out a hum of agreement. Thankfully they weren’t going to stay here long.
  • “I want... chocolate mint.” Taehyung said.
  • “I’ll probably have strawberry.” Jimin smiled. Staying a few steps away from him and Jungkook.
  • “What do you want, Jungkook?” Taehyung asked.
  • He wasn’t quite sure. He’ll probably go for chocolate.
  • “Take your time.” Jimin said. Always the most observant of the two ( since Taehyung is currently blind...)
  • Not only was he able to tell many things about Taehyung without the other saying it, but he’s also been learning about Jungkook. How he nibbles on his bottom lip when he’s concentrating, or when he’s deeply thinking about something. Debating on things.
  • Jungkook nodded. Taehyung stopping to let Jungkook look at the options. After a minute or so, he decided to have green tea, and they headed back outside.
  • “Alright you two, I’m gonna go home.” Jimin said.
  • “What?! Come on!” Taehyung whined.
  • “I told you I had things to do!” Jimin said, rolling his eyes at Taehyung’s whining.
  • “So you only accompanied us for ice cream?!” Taehyung gasped.
  • “....pretty much.” Jimin said. Suddenly going on a fit of giggles, as Taehyung looked completely offended. Jungkook only smiled, as the two continued to bicker.
  • “I can’t believe you’re betraying us.”
  • “Look who’s talking. Aren’t you friends with those older college students?”
  • “Minho Hyung is really nice!”
  • “Yeah, you left us once to go watch a movie with him and your other older friends!”
  • “It was just a one time thing!”
  • Hearing them bicker, had Jungkook zoning out. He felt a bit strange today. He wasn’t sure how to explain it, but he had this weird feeling on his chest. It wasn’t painful or anything, but if he paid close attention to it, he could feel it. Like a bit of pressure..a bit heavy? He wasn’t sure how to explain it. Should he be worried? Maybe it’s the ice cream? No...no he felt this before this. Even before class...
  • “Fine! Kook and I will just have fun without you!” Taehyung said. Wrapping his arm around Jungkook, making the younger boy snap out of his thoughts.
  • Jimin rolled his eyes.
  • “Sure, go ahead. I have to go home...be safe.” He said. They clearly won’t mad at eachother, just the regular playful acting the two have adopted throughout the years.
  • “I got Kook with me, so I’m not worried.” Taehyung said. Enforcing his statement by bringing Jungkook closer to him. Their cheeks touching, that had Jungkook turning pink.
  • “I’ll text you guys later!” Jimin said, turning back to leave.
  • “Yeeep!” Taehyung shouted. After a moment of silence, he went back to enjoying his ice cream.
  • “Hey Kook, I was thinking maybe we should go to the park or something.” He said. For someone who couldn’t see, Taehyung sure did love being outside.
  • Feeling a gentle squeeze on his hand, Taehyung smiled brightly.
  • “Awesome! Let’s go!” He said. Dragging Jungkook, as he began to walk forward. He didn’t expect for Jungkook to halt so soon. They had only taken like 10 steps, and he felt Jungkook squeeze his hand quite hard.
  • “Kook!?” Taehyung asked. Quickly worried that something was wrong. The bad thing was, was that Jungkook couldn’t communicate with him, and he couldn’t see Jungkook at all.
  • “Kook? Jungkook, are you okay?!” Taehyung shouted. His worried tone quickly had Jungkook squeeze his hand multiple times as to assure him he was okay.
  • But he wasn’t sure if he was...
  • He had just felt this jump in his heart. It tugged and was loud enough for him to hear. It was shocking, that it made him drop his ice cream. The green ice cream splattered on the concrete sidewalk.
  • “Kookie, please don’t lie to me. Are you okay?!” Taehyung asked again.
  • Jungkook tried to answer him. “I’m fine, Taehyung!” But all his lips did was move. Nothing coming out, and Jungkook opted to simply hug Taehyung. An unexpected move, because it almost made Taehyung drop his ice cream. But Jungkook had done the right thing, since the hug quickly calmed him down.
  • “....What happened?” Taehyung asked. Feeling Jungkook’s warmth move away, before feeling his hand holding his.
  • Two squeezes. Meaning “nothing.”
  • “You dropped your ice cream, didn’t you?” Taehyung asked.
  • Jungkook’s eyes grew wide in surprise. How did he know that?
  • “You hugged me, and I felt both of your hands. Something someone holding an ice cream cone can’t do.” Taehyung said, letting out a chuckle.
  • “....” Jungkook smiled, looking down at his ice cream.
  • “We can go back and buy you another one.” Taehyung said, but after feeling Jungkook’s light squeezes on his hand, he sighed.
  • “The park can wait. I’ll feel bad if I’m the only one with ice cream.” He said.
  • Two squeezes.
  • “Ugh...fine! Fine, come on. Don’t complain later on that I don’t buy you stuff!” Taehyung said, with a huff at the end.
  • Jungkook smiled at him, hoping to forget that feeling that still lingered on his chest.
