Mellifluous / Chapter One
Mellifluous
  • January , 01, xxxx
  • It’s been another year, and I have yet to find the one.
  • My Soulmate is yet to appear, and I am beginning to lose hope. I know my mom and dad tell me that the time will soon arrive, but I’m sure that even they are worried.
  • Seokjin’s brother, is going to get married, and I have to go. But a part of me doesn’t want to, because once again, I’ll see someone close to me be COMPLETE. While I’m still deaf, and lonely.
  • I’m 21, I have yet to find my soulmate, and I’m hungry.
  • You groaned closing your journal, and sliding it away from your sight. It’s been 11 years since you have lost the ability to hear. It was stressful the first few years, but now you’ve grown accustomed to it. You’ve become accustomed to not hear anything or anyone. At the age of nine, everyone goes through a big change in their lives. They lose something.
  • From sight, to hearing, to touch, and to even losing the ability to feel, Soulmates that live in this world are robbed something of theirs, until their Destined One, appears.
  • Of course, the other Soulmate loses something as-well. And just like your soulmate can be the only one to bring you back your missing something, you are the only one who can return theirs. Until you meet, both are INCOMPLETE.
  • You, lost the ability to hear. You were deaf. At the age of 9, your hearing suddenly began to weaken, and to say you were upset, was an understatement. You cried, you raged, and you even broke many things, due to the frustration of not being able to hear your parents anymore. It started with the small things, like a knock on the door, and tapping on the table, to then not being able to hear the television or radio at 100 volume.
  • Once you turned 10, your hearing was gone. You couldn’t hear anything. Not even yourself. It was traumatizing, and truly a horrible experience. Your parents had told you countless of times that the day would come, and even if you thought you were ready, nothing could get you ready for when the real thing happened. You knew this happened to everyone at the age of 10. You knew you were NOT the only one...yet it hurt so much.
  • You suffered, but luckily your best friend Seokjin was by your side. He was a handsome guy, too handsome that it even made other Soulmates WHO HAD a Soulmate, check him out.
  • ”Ah, the Soulmate Gods had to take away my sense of smell and taste, but at least they blessed me with my outstanding good looks!” He sighed. You just rolled your eyes when he wrote down what he had said, and highlighted “Good Looks”
  • Soulmates who lost their sense of taste also lost their sense of smell. They were considered to be the “Lucky” ones. They don’t lose something that causes you to drastically change your lifestyle. Seokjin disagrees with that belief though.
  • ”You know what ice cream tastes like! I don’t! Literally there is nothing more upsetting than not knowing how anything tastes or smells! What if my house catches on fire, and I can’t smell the smoke!? I could die!” He always has these dramatic tantrums, but you couldn’t hate him for it. During your most lowest of times, Seokjin had always been there one way or another.
  • You loved him for that.
  • Not in the...Soulmate way, but as a friend, family....
  • He was simply a person you couldn’t imagine being without. He was that important to you. So when he moved away, of course you were upset. You rarely hanged out, due to studying in different colleges, and tried to atleast meet once a month.
  • Today was that day.
  • He said he had a surprise for you, and even told you he was going to pay for the food today. Weird, since when you hanged out, you never went out to eat.
  • You got ready though, and headed to your bathroom to brush your hair.
  • The Taxi stopped near the cafe where Seokjin told you you would meet. Confused, yet excited to see your best friend, you rushed in to the building.
  • The atmosphere was calming. Not a lot of people were there, and the soothing smell of coffee filled the air.
  • Looking around, you spotted Seokjin, wearing a blue jacket, and was sporting blonde hair. A surprise to you, since you didn’t expect for him to look really well with blonde hair. You smiled brightly until you felt your world stop.
  • A taller male approached your beloved friend, and sat next to him. He was wearing a black turtleneck, and wearing round, thick glasses. He had short brown hair, and when his dimple smile went directly at Seokjin, it all suddenly hit you.
  • His Soulmate.
  • Seokjin...had found his soulmate.
  • ”(Y/N)!” You knew he called your name because you could read lips, and by the way his eyes shined when they saw you. You meant a lot to him aswell....but you began to doubt that now.
  • You didn’t know this guy. You didn’t hate him, but when you sat down you couldn’t help but feel the jealousy grow. He honestly seemed like such a nice guy. He smiled brightly at you too, and you didn’t feel like it was fake at all.
  • Seokjin got a small notebook out. He got a pen and began to write rapidly. His excitement obviously showing.
  • Once done, he handed it to his Soulmate who wrote down carefully, and more slowly than Seokjin.
  • He shyly handed you the notebook, and you began to read it.
  • OMG (Y/N) THIS IS MY SOULMATE, NAMJOON. HE IS SO CUTE, WE MET WHILE I WAS ON MY FISHING TRIP WITH YOONGI! I WANTED IT TO BE A SURPRISE, I CAN TASTE THINGS NOW! THIS IS THE THIRD CAFE NAMJOON AND I HAVE BEEN TO, AND I SIMPLY CAN’T STOP EATING!!!!!
  • Hello. My name is Kim Namjoon. Nice to meet you. Seokjin has told me many wonderful things about you. I hope we can be friends. :)
  • You looked at the cute smiley face Namjoon had drawn after his message. You can’t hate him. You shouldn’t feel these negative emotions towards him and your best friend... so then why...?
  • ”Ah...(Y/N)?” Seokjin frowned when he saw tears suddenly running down your cheeks. You sniffed, and quickly covered your face with your sleeves. Wiping away the wet salty tears.
  • You shouldn’t be crying. You shouldn’t feel like you’re about to be abandoned...
  • You felt two hands grab ahold of your wrists, and move them away from your face.
  • Seokjin was holding a napkin with his right hand. And like many times before, he wiped away your tears. The action was always the same. Warm, and gentle. He probably knew what you were feeling, without you voicing it. You knew how to somewhat speak, but you preferred to write or text. You wanted to avoid the embarrassment of mispronouncing something...
  • ”I...I’m happy f-for...you two...” You whispered.
  • Seokjin smiled. Causing you to break down even more. That smile...
  • He knew. Of course he knew.
  • A few minutes passed, and you were more calm now. A few sniffles here and there, but you were better.
  • You were waiting for Namjoon to finish writing on the notebook.
  • He smiled at you again, and once again handed the notebook to you.
  • We should hang out again! Well, if you don’t mind. Jin and I are going to be at his brother’s wedding, so we are going to stay for a bit.
  • You smiled and looked up at Namjoon. Seeing you nod made him looked relieved. His smile was truly something, you could see why Jin kept writing how cute Namjoon was.
  • Jin took the notebook, and smiled. Quickly writing down his idea.
  • Great! Let’s go to the park, by the highschool! They’re holding a small fair, and will be selling a lot of cotton candy! Namjoon loves cotton candy!
  • You looked at him, after reading his nice idea, and nodded.
  • It’s going to be next week!
  • Jin wrote.
