Mellifluous / Chapter Nine
Mellifluous
  • “Penny for your thoughts?”
  • Jin looked up to see Namjoon holding two cups of coffee. He was wearing his blue and grey pajama set, and his hair was still a bit wet from the shower he took a while ago.
  • “Thanks.” Jin smiled, taking the cup offered to him. The smell was sweet like vanilla, and he could also smell the hint of bitterness that is coffee. He loved French vanilla coffee.
  • “I was...thinking about Yoongi.” Jin said. Answering Namjoon’s question once the other took a seat next to him on the couch.
  • “Is he okay? Did something happen?” Namjoon asked. He was aware of Jin and Yoongi’s friendship, due to Jin mentioning him a few times. Also, he saw Yoongi only twice. The first time, when he met both Yoongi and Jin on their fishing trip. Both looked quite comedic wearing clothe that were NOT for outside fishing, and the oversized bright orange vests that made them look...simply hilarious.
  • The second time, was when Namjoon forgot to ask Jin his address. After the two felt the beginning of The Soul Hit, both sort of panicked and headed home after just exchanging names. It was chaotic. After his Soul Hit was over, he went on a search for Jin. Finding Yoongi walking his fluffy dog nearby. With his help, he managed to find Jin and the rest fell into place after that.
  • “No, no it’s just...I wonder if he misses me.” Jin said. Taking a sip of the warm sweet yet bitter beverage. Still a bit too hot for his tongue to bare.
  • ”I was his only friend. And I left him after you and I met.” He said.
  • Namjoon stayed quiet. Always the best listener from the two. He could hear all of your stories without saying a word, unless you asked him to. When Jin wanted to vent, Namjoon would just listen to his soulmate talk, and talk for hours. Never once finding himself bored or annoyed. Perhaps it was the whole soulmate thing. Or maybe because Jin was just so pretty to look at. Namjoon would find himself just staring at him from afar. Forgetting what he had come into the kitchen for, at times.
  • “Seriously, Joon. How can you be so forgetful?” Jin laughed.
  • And maybe after that, Namjoon figured that perhaps he wasn’t forgetting anything at all. His instinct was just wanting nothing else but to be close to his soulmate. Guiding him into the kitchen- or anywhere in their shared home, making him believe that he needed something, when in-fact, he just needed someONE.
  • HIS Someone.
  • “Have you tried to call him?” He asked. Frowning himself after noticing Jin feeling upset. Something he’s noticed about newly met Soulmates. They mirror each others feelings, and expressions. Namjoon swears he can feel how Jin is feeling. He’s feeling awful, upset, and disappointed with himself. There’s also that small hint of worry, for his friend.
  • “I did. We only talked for like 5 minutes, you know how he is.” Jin let out a chuckle.
  • “His mother and mine are good friends. They...talked about us a while ago...”
  • “About us?” Namjoon asked.
  • “Mrs.Min was very happy for me.” Jin said. “But she was also upset. Part of her still held on to the hope, that...maybe I would be Yoongi’s soulmate. And that I would be the one to get him out of that...robotic state. I was the only friend he had...no one else spoke to him. How will he ever find his Soulmate?”
  • Namjoon took a drink of his coffee. His preference of the hot beverage being a bit less sweeter than Jin’s. He enjoyed the bitter taste a bit more.
  • “Seokjin...before I met you, I didn’t think I would ever see again.” He said. Recalling the time before there was Jin. It was all just pitch black.
  • “That day, when we met...I had left my house, pretty upset. I overheard my parents speaking about me...talking about their concern that, what if I didn’t find my Soulmate?”
  • Jin frowned. He knows what that’s like.
  • “Even if all Soulmates eventually meet, there is that fear in parents, that their kids won’t find them. In fear that their kids will suffer...be Incomplete for many more years to come. Hearing my parents was the last hit that I could take. I lost all hope. It’s not fun being blind. You never get anywhere. Anywhere is nowhere.” Namjoon finally looked away from his cup, and into his Soulmate’s eyes.
  • Jin’s attention was fully on him, and the feeling was simply indescribable. Moments like these, makes Namjoon feel like he’s in a dream. Floating, and only feeling good things. Everything else becomes irrelevant, blurry, unimportant. Just Jin. That’s all he sees. That’s all that he’s ever seen with such clarity, even with his eyesight back.
  • “ No one else in my life had hope. Not even myself. Yet, that day...I met you. Even if it all seemed completely impossible the day before, or even the minutes before we met, it happened.” He said.
  • Jin’s eyes softened at that. Heck- he thinks he’s about to cry.
  • “Yoongi will find his Soulmate. He may not feel it, but that doesn’t mean his Soulmate can’t. His Soulmate is feeling for both of them. And maybe they will be the one to find him, since he can’t. I couldn’t see, so you found me.” Namjoon said, smiling as Jin scooted closer to him.
  • “Yeah...I guess I did, didn’t I?” Jin joked. In his mind, it was more like Namjoon found HIM. Jin was just fishing with Yoongi, until a blind Namjoon came out of nowhere and scared him half to death.
  • Resting his head on Namjoon’s shoulder. Smelling the soft, delicate smell of the lavender shampoo. Namjoon smelled so nice...
  • “If you want, we can invite him over.” Namjoon said.
  • “Hmm...that isn’t a bad idea.” Jin said. “ I can introduce him to (Y/N), and- oh my gosh...what if they’re Soulmates?” He gasped, moving away from Namjoon.
  • “Well...it’s a possibility...but I-“
  • ”Wh-what if this is meant to happen?! And I bring them together and- I gotta call him!”
  • “Jin! Hold on...” Namjoon sighed, watching Jin dialing Yoongi.
  • “Yoongi? Yoongi when are you free to hang out? I want you to come visit Namjoon and I!”
  • It was getting dark. The streetlights had just started to turn on, and the temperature had lowered.
  • “Ah...it’s cold...” Jimin sniffed, touching his cold nose in attempt to calm his need to sneeze.
  • He held a plastic bag as he counted the streetlights.
  • “It was the fourth one...” he mumbled. Getting there, he turned to the dark alley. Nothing much was back there, only trash, and a few garbage containers for a restaurant nearby.
  • He carefully made his way to one of them, and smiled when he saw what he was looking for. A brown box that was halfway torn. Over it, was a used old shirt he had found in the trash, to cover whatever was inside...
  • ”Hey...” Jimin smiled, removing the old shirt to reveal a small kitten peeking it’s head out.
  • “I brought you some food.” Jimin said. Quickly searching his pockets, to take out a small bowl along with a water bottle. The plastic bag in his hand carried cat food, along with two scarfs. He’ll be using them to cover the little stray kitten.
  • Smelling the food. The small animal slowly walked out of the box. Meowing when Jimin gentle reached out to touch its soft head.
  • “I wish I could take you home, but my dad is allergic to cats...it’ll take some convincing, but I promise I’ll get there. Just wait for me here, okay?” He asked. Smiling brighter when the kitten started to purr, at the gentle petting it was receiving.
  • “You’re really soft...” Jimin mumbled. Allowing it to start eating some of the food he had placed into the bowl.
  • He looked at his hand, noticing how it didn’t burn or itch like when he touches someone. All he had was some cat fur, sticking to his fingers. Unlike his other hand, that had a red rash. It didn’t hurt anymore, but it was going to take a few more days for it to vanish. He had tried to help his brother set up this new gaming console, and both were having so much fun...until the two forgot about Jimin’s peculiar situation. They high fived, that’s literally all they did. A single touch. Not even lasting a minute...burnt Jimin’s hand. His hand was all red, and Jimin closed his eyes shut in pain. Causing their fun time to stop completely.
  • “....” he sniffed, his eyes unable to look at anything but that red rash.
  • “I don’t know how long I can do this...” he said. Already feeling a knot in his throat, and his eyes stinging.
  • “I can’t help Taehyung like Jungkook can, I can’t hug my mother when I’m upset, and I can’t even high five my brother when we’re having fun...” he bit his lower lip, holding back the sob that was tempting to come out. He didn’t have anything to do today. He had lied to both of his best friends, just to be alone and miserable.
  • “I’m just...so tired of this...”
  • “Meow”
  • ”Ah-sorry...sorry it’s not you.” Jimin said. A little smile on his face, as he wiped away his warm tears with his sleeve. He was suddenly feeling stupid for talking to a cat.
  • “I just feel...I feel so cold.” He said.
  • Perhaps cats do understand. Maybe all animals can to some extent, understand how another living creature feels. Jimin stared in awe, as the small animal rubbed its head on his hand.
  • It was warm.
  • ”....” Jimin stopped crying, and picked it up. The kitten looked around a few weeks old. It’s walking was still a bit wobbly, and it just looked so small. It’s dark blue eyes stared at Jimin. This little thing needed him. Just like him, this kitten needed warmth, and love that it wasn’t receiving from anyone around. It was a special needed warmth and love. They were alike in that way.
  • ”.....I’m taking you home.” He said. Unzipping his sweater, to place the small ball of fur inside. Making sure he wasn’t squeezing him, or preventing it to breathe, he began to walk home. His sadness forgotten for now. Now he was wondering how he’ll explain this new member to the family.
  • “You’re staying with me, no matter what.” He said. Determination in his tone.
  • “I promised.”
