Mellifluous / Chapter Five
Mellifluous
  • It was a new day.
  • Once again, you woke up at an early time. You had a nice dream about the past, and about a future that was too good to be real. One where you could hear, and it was honestly strange. Since you haven’t heard in so long, your dream consisted of you “supposedly” hearing your soulmate. Whoever they were, they called out to you, but your mind couldn’t make out a voice. It was weird.
  • Getting up was always so boring. It was all the same.
  • You sat up, reaching for your phone that was left charging during the night, to check if any messages had been sent. You weren’t exactly surprised that Jin had texted you late at night.
  • Jin 💜
    Jin 💜
Hey! You’re probably asleep by now, but I just wanted to thank you. Namjoon was very happy to meet you. I had told him so much about you, and he was glad you accepted to be his friend. It was a goal of his to earn your friendship! o(≧∇≦o) I love you! ❤️
  • You stared at the message, for what was probably 10 minutes or so. Unsure if you should respond- of course you need to respond. Your fingers just typed down an -
  • “I love you too!❤️ Can’t wait to hang out!”
  • You let out a sigh, and decided it was time to get up. You didn’t necessarily have any plans for today.
  • Like many days, you’ll probably just stay home. Help your mom with some chores, do your online classes, and homework.
  • But first, breakfast.
  • ......
  • “Jungkook?”
  • “.....”
  • “Heeeey! Get up!”
  • Jungkook slowly opened his eyes. Hearing his brother already rushing him to get up. His hand shaking his arm, to wake him.
  • “Ya! I sometimes envy how you sleep. It’s like you’re dead to the world, once you close your eyes.” His brother said. He sighed, looking at his phone.
  • “Well, atleast I managed to wake you up earlier than usual. Gives you time to eat breakfast properly, instead of just running out with your mouth full.”
  • Jungkook sat up, rubbing his eyes. He arrived home a bit late, and even if his mother was happy he was hanging out with friends, his education was important. Therefore, sleeping was too. He had the habit of staying up late, and oversleeping. Leading to him getting early morning scoldings from his mother.
  • “If you’re planning to come home late, it’s best to do that on a Friday, because- hey! Wake up!”
  • Jungkook was shaken again, as he was falling back asleep while sitting.
  • “Come on! You got this, it’s Friday!” His brother said. Encouraging him, while he basically dragged him out of bed.
  • If Jungkook could speak, he would have probably cursed by now...
  • Once up, his brother left the room to give him privacy to change into his uniform. As he buttoned up his shirt, Jungkook thought about what Jimin told him. That if he “believed” hard enough, his soulmate would come faster to him. How could that be?
  • Had he not prayed enough at night? Was that not enough? From trying to find four leaf clovers, to folding 1000 paper cranes? Jungkook had secretly done them all on the list. He would always find himself blushing at the fact that he seemed to be desperate. But can anyone blame him?
  • He can’t talk. He can’t speak up for himself. It’s frustrating! Hearing so much, yet unable to keep up, because you’re writing down something.
  • He wants to be HEARD.
  • “Kookie? Kookie, hurry up!” His mother said. She must have finished making breakfast. Jungkook opened his mouth to answer, but nothing came out.
  • He huffed, feeling irritated already. He made his way to the kitchen. Today, he could tell was going to be one of those days...
  • Those days where he just wants to stay home, in his bed, and just sleep. Days where everything is just too much for him, and he feels all sensitive. He could bump into something, and that could be enough to have him start crying. He felt like a bubble right now...
  • A bubble floating around a field of cacti.
  • “There you are! Eat up, now.” His mother’s sweet voice soothed him a bit.
  • “How was your day out with your friends? Was it fun?” She asked. She always did some small talk in the morning.
  • Jungkook only nodded, and forced a smile.
  • “You three better not be causing any mischief, out there.” She joked. She turned back, to wash the dishes. Jungkook rolled his eyes. How could they cause any problems? Taehyung is blind, Jimin can’t touch, and he can’t talk or make any noise at all.
  • There isn’t much you can do when you’re incomplete.
  • Jungkook likes to think of it as a card game. You have your NORMAL Cards. Being sight and hearing. 8 out of 10 people will have either of these. Then you have your SEMI RARE Cards. Cases like loss of a body part. It’s not as scary as it sounds! The individual is born with all their body parts, but at the age of 10, the chosen body part will begin to simply not work. Like, your left leg is there, but you won’t be able to move it at all, until you find your soulmate.
  • Jungkook is a RARE card! Being mute, has been passed down by his family. It wasn’t a surprise to his parents when he started to grow quiet. They knew they had a chance that one of their kids, would be mute.
  • Another RARE case was like Jimin. The loss of touch. Jimin is unable to feel anything physically. His skin turns red, and he claims it feels like a burn. Jungkook, was always amazed by how the rules worked for Jimin’s case. To feel like you’re burning whenever someone simply brushes past you. Yet, when you touch a plant or some cute dog, nothing happens. Like if his body knows that it cannot touch humans. Anything, but humans.
  • It’a magical, in a very twisted way.
  • The ones who also fall for the RARE cards, are those who lose the ability to taste. Of course, the ability to smell is also taken, but Jungkook can only see that as fair. The “Lucky Ones”, which is their given name, can talk, can see, can touch, can move freely...the only problem is that they can’t taste or smell anything. Which Jungkook doesn’t see a problem with. He wouldn’t care if he couldn’t smell or taste something. Atleast he would speak.
  • The thought quickly crossed out, when he tasted the delicious breakfast his mom had prepared for him. Crap, well...maybe it’s a bit upsetting that someone can’t taste such good food...
  • He then thought about the weirdest, and most rarest case of all.
  • One that is honestly scary, to any soulmate out there. The very rare case of being unable to feel emotionally. They can’t feel angry, they can’t feel sad, or happy...nothing. They’re like walking zombies. Jungkook had studied about cases like these in school, and that one scared him the moment he read about it...
  • “That sounds awful!” Taehyung gasped. Jimin, who had been reading Jungkook’s notes on the matter, nodded.
  • “Yeah...I can’t imagine what that’s like.” He said.
  • “It’s sad...to think that there are incomplete soulmates like that, out there. I heard that even when they meet their soulmate, the Soul Hit is agonizing.”
  • Jungkook frowned.
  • “Agonizing? Isn’t it like that to everyone? My parents Soul Hit, lasted for like, two days. My mom had this really bad fever, while my dad couldn’t even stand.” Taehyung said.
  • Jimin hummed. His eyes looking at Jungkook’s notes.
  • “Well, to what I know, they feel it worse. It’s very likely due to the fact that they’ve never felt anything before. So feeling everything, at once...”
  • “Is overwhelming...” Taehyung finished.
  • “I guess there are the very lucky ones, and the very unlucky ones.” He said.
  • Jimin nodded. He glanced at Jungkook, who had been paying close attention to their conversation.
  • “I feel so bad for them...” Jimin sighed. Closing Jungkook’s notebook, and giving it back to him.
  • Jungkook nodded. He had never thought about how lucky he was to not be incomplete in that way. Not be able to feel anything emotionally? Does that person really not feel anything?
  • “Well, off you go.”
  • Jungkook smiled at his mother, as she saw him walk out of the house. With a quick peck on the head, she watched her youngest son, head off to school.
  • “Be careful!” She said. Jungkook nodded, and took out his headphones.
  • Once again, letting music take over him.
