  • I finally got my stitches taken out today. It’s been hard for me to not participate in training or missions because I have nothing better to
  • do. I’ve just been either sitting in my room watching TV or outside in my secret hideout reading.
  • “I’m sorry that you haven't been able to go on missions with us.” Aikoku says walking into my room.
  • “That’s ok.” I reply. “But next time knock before coming in here. What if I was changing or something?”
  • “Ok, ok. I’m sorry.” He says, sitting down on my bed next to me. “Can you believe Father is gonna make us partner with a Korean Mafia group?”
  • “I know. I don’t want to. He said we have to meet up with them today.”
  • “Yeah I know. Well you better get ready. We’re leaving soon.”
  • “Ok. Get out then.” I shove him to the door. I shut the door and lock it as soon as he leaves. I run to my closet and throw on a cute white crop top with ripped denim shorts, sunglasses, white converse and the friendship bracelets my sister gave me.
  • After I change, I walk into the living room and wait for the rest of my family. I pull out my phone and check my Insta. My ex-best friend has been posting a lot about her and her new boyfriend. Every time I look at them, I feel so alone. I have no friends and no boyfriend and I’m freaking 16.
  • “Are you ready to go?” Sakura asks.
  • “Yup! I was just waiting for you guys.”
  • “Alright. Let’s go then!” We walk outside into Father’s car. He’s already waiting for us, along with my brother and our bodyguards. We start driving towards the airport.
  • “We are going to try to combine our Mafia groups to make them bigger. That’s why we’re meeting them. Are you children ready to meet the Mafia family of South Korea?” My father asks.
  • “I am!” Sakura says. “I hope there’s a handsome Mafia prince.”
  • “Well I hear the Mafia king has a son. His name is Kim Taehyung.”
  • “He sounds dreamy.”
  • “Wow. You hear his name once and now you’re obsessed with him.” I tease. “What if he’s my age? What would you do then?”
  • “You’re right. I need to calm down. But still. How could you not be excited to meet him? What if he is your age? Will you like him?”
  • “I could care less.”
  • “C’mon Akari, you have to be interested in a guy at some point.”
  • “No I don’t.” I reply sourly. “That’s your thing. I’m not a romantic.”
  • “Well fine then.” She sits back in her seat.
  • “Well it doesn’t matter if you’re a romantic or not, you must respect them ok?”
  • “Ok.” We all agree.
  • We finally arrive at the Kim’s mansion. It’s way bigger than ours. We walk up to the door and a large man in black opens it for us.
  • “Right this way sir.” He motions us inside.
  • “Thank you.” We all say as we pass him.
  • “Just sit in here and wait for the Kim’s to join you.”
  • “Ok. Thank you.” My father says. “Now you must remember your manners. I’m mainly talking to you Akari. I know how you are with new people.”
  • “Wow, thanks.” I reply coldly.
  • “Looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.” Aikoku teases.
  • “Stop teasing your sister.” Father says. “And be quiet, they'll be here any minute.”
  • “Ahh my guests!” Mr. Kim says. “Welcome! I’m Kim Su-jin. My son Kim Taehyung will be down in a moment. He’s 17 and is very popular among the girls training here.”
  • “It’s very nice to meet you Mr. Kim. I’m Kimura Kenzo. Well my youngest daughter, Akari, might be interested in meeting him. She’s 16.” I glare at my father.
  • “Well let’s have a seat in the dining room, the servants will prepare our dinner.” He ushers us into the dining room.
  • “And what are your other children's names?”
  • “I’m Kimura Sakura.” She bows her head.
  • “I’m Kimura Aikoku.” My brother bows his head.
  • “And my father already told you who I am.”
  • “Yes. I think my son will like you.”
  • “Well Akari isn’t much of a romantic person.” Sakura says. I smack her shoulder.
  • “Stop it Sakura.” Father says.
  • “Yes sir.” She replies quietly.
  • “Ahhh there he is.” Mr. Kim says. “This is my son Kim-”
  • “Oh my god!” I say and everyone looks at me. “It’s you.” We stare at each other for a moment.
  • “What do you mean Akari?” My father asks.
  • “He’s the guy I fought with over that hard drive a few weeks ago, the guy who threw his knife at me.”
  • “You threw your knife at her?” Mr. Kim asks Taehyung.
  • “Well my mission was to get the hard drive to the Kimura’s and I tried to complete it but-”
  • “I had to get stitches because of you!” I stand up and walk towards him.
  • “Akari calm down.” Sakura says. I stand there trying to hold back my tears. I can’t cry in front of him or he’ll think I’m weak..
  • “Don't tell me to calm down!” I snap at her. “He threw the fricken knife at me.”
  • “Akari, did you use the code word I told you to use?”
  • “No but-”
  • “Then you can’t be upset at him. He was doing his job. He had to guard the hard drive until you came and told him the code phrase.”
  • “Well I didn’t see anyone there. The hard drive was sitting on a table with no one around. I called ‘who’s there’ and no one answered.”
  • “Well that was my mistake. I wasn’t expecting a girl to retrieve it. My apologies father.” Taehyung bows to his father.
  • “Now what do you have to say?” My father asks.
  • “I’m sorry too.” I say quietly, bowing my head to him.
  • “Now introduce yourself to him and then sit down.” Father says. I roll my eyes and look at Taehyung. I put on my best fake smile.
  • “I’m Kimura Akari. It’s so nice to meet you.” I bow to him dramatically and sit down at the table.
  • “I’m very sorry about her behavior. She’s kind of stubborn sometimes.”
  • “I can see that.” Taehyung says. “I’m Kim Taehyung.” He adds sitting down across from me. A few minutes later the servants come in with our dinner. Everyone begins to eat, except me. They’re all talking about random things like stocks and the weather. We all get up from the table and move to the seating area. Then my father says something that I wasn’t expecting.
  • “Well thank you for keeping them for a few weeks.” Father says.
  • “What?” Sakura, Aikoku, and I say in unison. We all stand up.
  • “I forgot to mention how you three are going to stay here for a few weeks to train with them.”
  • “How could you ‘forget’ to tell us that?” I reply.
  • “Akari, calm down.” Sakura says.
  • “Stop telling me what to do.”
  • “You're just embarrassing yourself.” She adds. “Now listen to father.”
  • “You are going to stay here and train with them. I won’t be on this earth much longer and I want you all to be capable of taking my position.”
  • “Father don’t say that-” I start.
  • “It’s the truth, Akari. Now please try your best to behave.” He stands up and walks towards us. “I already packed your things for you. The guards got them from the car already. Please listen to Sakura, Akari.” He kisses my forehead.
  • “What? I have to listen to her?”
  • “Please,” He looks at me with sad eyes. “For me.”
  • “Ok, Father. I love you.” I embrace my father.
  • “I love you as well my daughter.” He lets go of me and hugs my other two siblings. “I love all three of you, now be polite. Goodbye for now.” My father says as he walks out of the mansion.
  • “Taehyung will show you to your rooms.” Mr. Kim says. “If you need anything, ask him.” We all nod, following Taehyung upstairs.
  • “All the bedrooms are on the same floor. We have enough rooms for you to each have your own room.” He explains. “Aikoku, here’s your room.” He opens the door. “Make yourself at home.” Aikoku walks in and closes the door. He walks a few doors down. “Here’s your room, Sakura.” He opens her door. “If you need anything, tell me ok?”
  • “Ok.” She replies, walking in the room. Now it’s just me and Taehyung.
  • “You’re room is right next to mine so-”
  • “Thank you. I can take it from here.” I snap.
  • “Do you need help with your bags?”
  • “No. I’ve got it.” I walk into the room. It’s HUGE!
  • “Wow. I love this room.”
  • “Well make yourself at home. If you need anything-”
  • “I know. Talk to you. Now get out.”
  • “This is technically my house so…” He walks into the room. I take a step back.
  • “I’m still mad at you for cutting me.” I show him the scar on my arm. “I was gonna get a tattoo there, but now I can’t. Thanks a lot.”
  • “I’m sorry. I was just trying to do my job.” He walks closer to me. I take a step back.
  • “Leave me alone.” I push him away from me. “And get out. Don’t make me shoot you.”
  • “You wouldn’t.” He smirks as my back hits the wall.
  • “Actually I have no feelings for you whatsoever and I barely even know you. If you don’t get out, I’ll shoot your arm.” I threaten. He raises his hands.
  • “Geez ok.” He turns to walk out. “Breakfast is at 6:30 am. Then we start training for the week. Don’t be late.” He closes the door behind him. I walk to the bed and plop down. Finally, alone. I unpack my suitcase and put stuff into the drawers. I pull out some pj’s and lay them on the bed. I grab my bathrobe then I head to the bathroom to shower.
  • Taehyung’s POV
  • I close the door to her room and walk to mine. I thought she was cute on that mission but I never thought I’d see her again. Akari. Such a pretty name. I heard her sister saying that she’s not a romantic. But I’ll win her over. I just need to get her to trust me, then I’ll get her to fall for me. I need to ask her what her favorite breakfast food is so I can surprise her with it in the morning. I walk back towards her room and knock on the door. She doesn’t answer so I slowly open the door. I hear the shower turn on. I carefully walk in and lean against the wall. She starts singing FINE by Taeyeon. She has a beautiful voice. It’s soft and smooth. She finishes the song and then the shower water turns off. I dart out of the room back to mine. I’ll just have the servants make her something, tomorrow.
  • End of Taehyung’s POV
  • I hop out of the shower and dry off. I put on my bathrobe and walk out of the bathroom. I leave the bathroom door open so the steam from the shower circulates out of the room. I take off the bathrobe and change into my pj’s. I crawl into the huge bed and get underneath the beautiful duvet covers. I pull out my phone and check Instagram one more time. Himiko, my ex-BFF, posted a pic of her kissing her boyfriend’s cheek in the sunset on a beach in Hawaii. I shut off my phone, lay it on the nightstand, turn off the light, and go to sleep.
