By Your Side: The Adventures in I-LAND
  • My phone alarm went off. But I did not wake up to answer it. Eventually, I did wake up and I did turn it off. But as I stretched out my whole body…I then felt a scratch in my throat. I tried to swallow it off. But then I thought:
  • Y/N
    Y/N
"Once I eat, then my throat would feel less sore!"
  • But it didn’t feel any better. I also noticed that my energy was a bit more slower than usual. I took my temperature: 99.58˚C. I knew I had a cold. I didn’t know what type, but it was a cold. And that was when Holly Fitzpatrick Short called me.
  • Holly Fitzpatrick Short
    Holly Fitzpatrick Short
Y/N. Where are you? You’re supposed to be here at 5am.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
I don’t feel very well, my throat is sore and I can’t move fast.
  • Holly Fitzpatrick Short
    Holly Fitzpatrick Short
Well, if you really are sick, then call Mr. Hwa-min. I’m sure he’ll understand.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
No, no, no. And deal with the crazy Tae-woo? I can’t do that. I’m just going to force it all, even if I do have a cold.
  • I didn’t want to lie in bed that day. I was supposed to go to the agency at 5am. But the evaluation was only two months away. In those days, I never skipped anything, especially school and training.
  • But I was sick, a time when you would have to stay at home and rest, I didn’t know how I was going to face the harmful and traumatic consequences once I had recovered.
  • All I’m trying to say is that, no matter what, I should still practice and work hard for everything.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • As a miracle, I managed to get through the day without coughing and sneezing. Either I had the 7 hour flu, or maybe that was what happens when you wake up on a certain morning day.
  • But it was quite weird as well, since it was cold all week at the time. In forever, I actually felt good about myself. But then, it was on a Friday, usually the last day before our weekend break, when I was searching through my lunch cubby.
  • I realized someone literally took my lunch and dumped it out.
  • And it was true!
  • And all of us knew who took it.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    "Tae-woo! How could you?!"
  • But then I remembered. I had to weigh 50 kgs or less. This opportunity was at the cost. Kanade noticed and shared half her salad with me.
  • And that’s how it’s been for the next couple days. I took some salad (Caesar Salad), and ate nothing for the rest of the evening. But at night, I did eat a bowl of fruit.
  • The next morning I only ate a boiled egg. I believe I must have consumed at least 3 or 400 calories each day. It was quite hectic.
  • I remembered, after two days dieting, feeling so fatigued and the anemia that was in my blood cells that I lacked a lot of strength for my dance classes and group practices.
  • In Ireland, we didn’t have any room for salads. Me and my family would pouch a lot of carbs in our bodies. My diet was both terrible, but really delicious at the same time.
  • But we are speaking about the diets that K-Pop idols go through!
  • At that moment, I really thought of dying of hunger. But that was how determined I was…to live.
  • Me and the girls were getting our weight checked. The staff member that was checking us listed the girls’ name and our weight number.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • 1. Kanade Nishimura - 49.3KG
  • 2. Shion Pam - 47.6KG
  • 3. Choi Hye-mi - 50KG
  • 4. Momo Xing - 49KG
  • 5. Holly Fitzpatrick Short - 48.4KG
  • 6. Juliet Butler - 50KG
  • 7. Lara Matthews - 50.4KG
  • 8. Maeve Sullivan - 49KG
  • 9. Erika Hernandez - 50KG
  • 10. Leila Hernandez - 48KG
  • 11. Rebbeca Hernandez (Nickname: Keira) - 50KG
  • 12. Isabelle Hernandez - (Nickname: Isabelle Lee) - 47.9KG
  • 13. Hinata Haruki (Nickname: Yui) - 46.9KG
  • 14. Livia Morticio - 49.3KG
  • 15. Jax Merriam - 48.9KG
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • I was up next. I took off both my shoes and socks. I stepped onto the weight scale and it read: 46.2. I was pretty surprised. All of that weight I had lost in just a matter of a week’s time!
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    God!
  • I said, relieved.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
I couldn’t even drink any water! And I’m serious!
  • That day, we all rejoiced. But for me…that was concerning. Sure we needed to lose a couple unnecessary pounds. But I didn’t expect it to be so much!
  • And that was when I realized this positive trainee life has turned into a toxic and venomous remedy.
