By Your Side: The Adventures in I-LAND
  • (Narrator’s POV)
  • Y/N ran off for a moment. No one was quick to notice. She then stood behind the entrance for a moment, before running all the way back to the main door.
  • Meanwhile, it was in the CCTV room of this mysterious getaway, when they saw the young girl running through the tunnels and back to the entrance.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • From left to right:
  • Bang Si-Hyuk, the hitman!
  • RAIN, the Global Sensation (not going to confuse the “sensation part” with BTS)!
  • And ZICO, the Genius Producer.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • Si-Hyuk then crossed his arms.
  • Bang Si-Hyuk
    Bang Si-Hyuk
    Who is she?
  • he asked.
  • ZICO
    ZICO
    Not sure…
  • said ZICO, with a straight tone:
  • ZICO
    ZICO
She doesn’t seem too happy about the way things are going for her.
  • RAIN
    RAIN
Seems to me that she must be feeling stuck right here in this deserted place.
  • Bang Si-Hyuk
    Bang Si-Hyuk
I believe you are both right…
  • said Si-Hyuk:
  • Bang Si-Hyuk
    Bang Si-Hyuk
Somehow and sometime, she will realize that she will be the first girl to enter I-LAND. That is…until she does get into I-LAND.
  • Y/N then reached the entrance of the getaway. The door did not seem to open. The girl used all her might, and banged on the door. She did not stop until she was out of breath.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    She then cursed silently.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
How am I going to get out of here?” she complained, “I have a home, and I want to go to it!
  • Just when she was about to burst into tears, the entrance opened. Y/N then almost stepped out, but a young boy stood in front of her. This was Nishimura Riki. A boy of fifteen.
  • Y/N was already sixteen. They both had the same birth year. However, they were only four months apart.
  • Riki then comforted Y/N. But at first, he was a bit hesitant. He knew that Y/N was not Korean, nor was she Japanese like him.
  • In his worst English, he asked:
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    What happened?
  • But Y/N did not answer. She was too depressed.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • Riki then tried to get Y/N to face him. But she refused. Y/N turned away and huffed.
  • Again, Riki asked:
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    What happened?
  • This time, Y/N then gave up and answered:
  • Y/N
    Y/N
I can’t get out from this dreaded place. I don’t like it, and I want to get out of here, so I could go home in time to watch this highly anticipated TV show, I-LAND! I don’t know how I ended up here, but I know I should not be here!
  • Riki chuckled. He then patted her shoulder.
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    You silly.
  • he said.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    But how?
  • Y/N asked, angrily.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
How in the godforsaken world am I in such humor to you?!
  • Y/N’s thick Irish accent confused Riki.
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    My sister
  • he said in his worst English,
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    You know my sister.
  • Y/N nodded:
  • Y/N
    Y/N
Oh, yeah! Your Nishimura Riki, Kanade was telling me about you. She said you were going to end up on I-LAND. Are you?
  • Riki then stood still. He understood Y/N’s words. But he did not know how to respond. He thought in English, but he could not speak it.
  • He always looked up to the language and worked very hard to learn it. Alas, he was always and heinously bamboozled.
  • The young boy said:
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
I do not speak, uh, English.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
But…do you understand what I’m trying to say?
  • asked Y/N.
  • Riki nodded with a smile.
  • They then walked back to the room where all of the other 22 boys were sitting. Y/N was hesitant.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
"What if…they don’t like the fact that I’m a girl here? What if…they just kick me out into the streets? WHAT THEN?!?!"
  • The girl then shuttered.
  • Riki then stood beside her, gently grasping her hand.
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    It’s okay
  • he said.
  • Together, they walked in the entrance.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • (Back to Y/N’s POV)
  • I knew I felt frustrated, but I had to calm down and it was going to be a long time until I’m able to come back home.
  • I had to call my mum about this. When I did, she said to come back home safe and sound, unless it was another agency I found.
  • I wanted nothing more than to be a famous artist. If I keep getting rejected, then that means I have to keep trying and trying, until someone accepts me.
  • I told my mum I was going to be on I-LAND…and she rejoiced.
  • This made me freak out for a little bit. And yet, I was not as jittery on the outside. I didn’t know how my mum found out…but it was scary…for me at the least.
  • It was while we were waiting for everything to start, there was a voice.
  • The voice said:
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
To all of the 24 young male applicants…welcome!
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    "What is happening?"
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
This is the stage of I-LAND and the place where you will improve, and maybe even debut.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
"Debut? Shall I finally have a chance?"
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
After going down the gate, you will see this mysterious place, that’s called I-LAND. The place that only exists in our imaginations.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
Interesting! I must go there…once I pass this exam, or test! That is…if I ever will pass.
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
    Through this gate…
  • the voice continued:
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
    You will enter I-LAND!
  • I was about to stand up, but Riki held me down.
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
    But…
  • continued the voice:
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
All 24 of you… cannot go in there!
  • I was surprised.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    WHAT?!?!
  • I shouted:
  • Y/N
    Y/N
First you introduce all 24 of us to this mysterious and imaginative place, show us the gate to it, and then you all tell us we can’t go in?! WHAT THE HELL!!!
  • I knew I scared pretty much every single one of the guys, including the voice.
  • I then heard Riki say:
  • Ni-Ki
    Ni-Ki
    You are very angry, yes?
  • I nodded my weary head.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
    I didn’t mean to…
  • I said:
  • Y/N
    Y/N
I just get frustrated when I’m told I can’t do something. I’m sure, you all can relate to this…can you?
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
    I-LAND…
  • the voice continued:
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
And its capacity is 20 people or less.
  • I gasped silently.
  • Y/N
    Y/N
"I guess a lot of us have to be at least those 20 or less people, right? OMG!"
  • I frowned. I didn’t know that it was a real survival to get to where you want to go. I felt I was in one of those movies, where there is huge conflict with the main character. And I felt as if I was that main character.
  • Namkoong Min
    Namkoong Min
The power to decide those 20 or less people…is only up to you. Every destiny upon I-LAND is upon your hands as well! The entry test will begin now, with the performances you have prepared.
  • ––––––––––––––––––––––
  • CHAPTER EPILOGUE: ENTRY TEST
  • The entry test would be assessed by only the performers themselves. Those that had the majority of votes, could go into I-LAND.
  • However, if there were less than 20 or less people, then there was going to be another test.
  • It was a unit performance…but the voting was done by individuals.
  • Namkoong Min, had worked together with HYBE and MnetTV to come up with this idea and had succeeded in scouting over 20 people for this project.
  • This was done over the summer of 2020.
