Book one: The Misfortunate One
  • “I’ll be waiting for the day when we meet again, princess. When that day comes I will make it official for us to be together for now, become stronger and use what you know now as best that you can. May the day we meet each other come sooner than later, dear princess.” He said softly to her as he brushed the hair out of the way of her face for a slight moment before her hair went back to it's stubborn place in front of her face.
  • She nodded her head flustered as she quickly made her way back to the throne room where her father waited for her return. When Reyna got back to the throne room her father instantly hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her head softly. “You did well daughter, I knew you’d be able to handle it.” He said happily to her
  • Reyna felt a bit of warmth in her heart hearing the words from her father, she then looked up at him with a sad smile. “I met mother while I was there.”
  • “Did you now? How did that play out?”
  • “She was peeved at me for telling the truth. She went as far as to hit me and yelled at me. Claiming the same lie that you had told me before, she still believes herself to be the victim father. She also told me that you told her where I was...is that true?” Reyna asked curiously
  • He gave her a sad smile. “Yes I had hinted to her towards where you were since she came here sword blazing, she managed to kill your two elder cousins and two of your uncles in the process.”
  • Reyna’s eyes darken hearing what had happened. “Can I please go and kill that woman?! She doesn’t deserve to live another day!”
  • Zavier placed his hands on her shoulders to calm her down before he sighed out. “In time you will face your mother, one on one. But now is not the time, you are not ready enough to do such a feat. You must be trained properly and be given proper equipment for the job daughter. I know you’re rather peeved at what had happened but there isn’t anything you could have done to prevent it nor could they have.”
  • Reyna took a deep breath before she looked at her father deeply in the eyes. “Which two of my uncles died a useless death?”
  • “Armani and Darius ” Zavier said with a sigh “I told them not to get close to her but they chose not to listen and met their fate. Now let’s get you started on your training shall we?”
  • She quickly nodded her head as she looked up at her father. “I want to be able to give my mother the death she deserved years ago when she wanted to abandon me.”
  • Zavier was glad to hear the words that came out of his daughter and chose to place her through the hardest training course with the strictest trainer he knew. The person that he introduced his daughter to was their family's personal trainer. The trainer had his arms crossed as he saw Zavier and the young demoness come towards him. The trainer was a six foot tall male with silver gray hair and gold eyes. He had a slightly gruff voice as he spoke to Zavier. “Good afternoon, my lord, what can I do for you today?”
  • “Afternoon General Ivan, This is my youngest daughter Reyna. She’s going to be the key to defeating the angels once and for all. I’d like for you to train her just as hard as you had for Andrea and Lucian. Don’t give her any flack, she must be able to fight Emilia without faltering or losing any ground.”
  • Ivan looked from the demon lord to the young woman beside him. “Are you ready for the trials that lie ahead of you missy?”
  • “Give me all you got, I’ve trained with dragons all my life. I’m ready to see how much I can handle with my own kind.” Reyna said seriously
  • Ivan looked at her seriously before nodding his head to the demon lord. “I can take it from here Lord Zavier, your daughter will be placed through the hellish trial’s I’ve got and I won’t let her quit.”
  • “Very well, thank you. I will leave the life of my daughter in your capable hands Ivan.” Zavier said before he hugged Reyna and kissed the top of her head softly. “I’ll see you when you’re stronger, once you are we will go together to see your mother.”
  • She nodded her head as she looked up at her father. “I won’t let you down father.”
  • Ivan then took her past soldiers that were going through sparring matches and basic training. One of the people they went past was Zane who stopped what he was doing when he saw General Ivan take the young princess past the beginner courses. Confused, he rushed up to him and stopped him with the princess.
  • “Sir, may I ask why you aren’t allowing her to go through basic? She is a female princess.” Zane asked
  • Ivan looked at Zane seriously. “She may be a female princess but she has gone through enough training with the dragons to not go through it.”
  • “Sir...if it is okay with you-he has been questioning my capabilities since I confronted my elder sister Luma. I would like to be able to show him that I am stronger than he is capable of comprehending.” Reyna stated as she looked up at Ivan
  • Ivan grinned at Reyna. “Very well, We will start you off from the start and make your way down to where I wish to place you. Zane you will spot her and see for yourself just how wrong you are to question one of the demon lords children.”
  • “She may have the blood of a demon in her but she also has angelic blood as well which will weaken her.” Zane stated
  • Reyna glared at Zane. “I refuse to give into my angelic blood, that blood is tainted by the woman who did much wrong not only to my father but to my own family. Calling me part angel is an insult to me as a demon Zane.”
  • Ivan was pleased to hear that she refused to give into her mother’s blood that she had been given the right words to believe in herself as a demoness. Going back to the beginning, she was able to quickly do the sit up, push ups and crunches before going to the obstacle course. Reyna went across the bars in record time before climbing up the wall with ease. Afterwards she got her demon wings out before she went through the fire covered rings making sure that she never let her wings get caught on fire. Once she landed on the ground she par cored her way up a large wall as she made it up to the other side and jumped down; she had all of the training soldiers eyes on her.
  • Reyna was then faced with a dummy that looked like an angel as she looked at Ivan; he explained that it was for magic practice. Hearing it was for magic practice she casted a fireball spell mixed with a magic missile spell-making the dummy turn to ashes. All who watched her were rather shocked she mixed magic so easily as she had. Zane was rather speechless to see just what she was able to do. Reyna was then taken to a 100 meter dash, where she went up against Zane who held the record for being the fastest. Once she was able to go she sped past Zane and kept her pace up as she left him in the dust. Even though she was more than a few feet shorter than him, she was beating him at his own game.
  • At thirty minutes and fifteen seconds she finished with Zane coming up behind her at fifty minutes and ten seconds. Zane was rather out of breath as Reyna was still breathing normally, he looked to her as if she was insane.
  • “How...How the hell are you managing yourself?” Zane asked, confused. “Not even your elder cousins could keep up with me, how did you manage to beat me Princess?”
  • “I learnt from the dragons how to keep myself from being in a breathless state like you are.” Reyna said before she looked at Ivan. “What’s next sir?”
  • Ivan was rather impressed that she wasn’t tired-most demons would be tired at that point, not her apparently. He had very high hopes for her since her elder cousins couldn’t even get close to being where she was physically. She was taken to a different course and he told her he’d be waiting at the end as Zane had to go through it with her. When she was told she could go, she did rather happily. First going through metal hoops on the ground that were timed to explode if she kept her foot in them too long to jumping up on hold onto a bar that slid from one side of the course to the next part as there were spikes and thorny vines under it-encouraging people to hold onto the bar. Once she let go it retracted back to where it was beforehand.
  • After that she went through a small hole where she had to crouch, afterwards she came face to face with swinging large sharp objects. Reyna looked around only to see that there was a sign that said ‘no flying’-which meant she had to rush through it on foot. Which wasn’t a problem for her as she timed everything right as she went through each one-one by one. Stopping before she would get harmed as she made sure to keep her breathing calm as she reached the end. By then she saw that Ivan had Nala beside him which made her raise an eyebrow at the elder male.
  • “Why is Nala here?” Reyna asked confused
  • “She is your chosen dragon is she not?”Ivan asked
  • Reyna nodded her head. “Yes, she is.” Reyna stated
  • “Then this next course you’ll need to hop onto her back. To call yourself a true demoness you must be one with your dragon. So show everyone how well you and Nala work together.” Ivan explained
  • Reyna went onto Nala’s back and smiled down at her best friend. “Ready to go Nal?” Reyna asked curiously
  • Nala grinned and nodded her head. “Let’s do this Rey. I’m ready for anything!”
  • The two of them were taken to the next course which was a flying course, the two of them already saw a few elder dragons doing the course with ease. The two of them looked to one another and when they were told to go, Nala bolted for it. Taking off like a bullet as Reyna was holding onto her friend laughing most of the time, enjoying the time she had been on top of her best friend. As Nala did the course she passed some of the elder experienced dragons as she showed off where she could. Taking sharp turns and doing flips as well. When Nala landed Reyna hugged her friend once more laughing. “That was awesome Nala!”
  • Nala smiled back at Reyna. “It felt just like the course back at home.”
  • “Mhm very much so.” Reyna said as she petted the top of her Nala’s head softly
  • Zane and Ivan both soon caught up with the female duo as Nala turned to her human form, showing herself as a rather short raven haired female with yellow and green eyes. She was a few inches taller than Reyna as she placed her arm over Reyna’s shoulder. “How’s that for a team?” Nala asked with a grin
  • “Ahn...you’re part of the shape-shift dragons huh? No wonder Reyna is well versed in so much. Would you like to continue on with her Nala?”
  • Nala nodded her head. “Yes if it isn’t that much trouble with you sir.”
  • “Not at all, if you are her partner you are going to be taking an oath to protect and serve the princess when she becomes the new ruler of Militia.
  • After many more trials she was finally up to where Ivan wanted her to be. By that time it was time for dinner, so they called it quits for the day, Nala and Reyna ate dinner in the barracks with the other soldiers but none of them would dare say anything to either one of them. Or hell get anywhere near them. They ate at the end of one table where the other soldiers kept more than two arms widths from the duo.
  • Nala felt a bit insulted but Reyna didn’t say anything as she just took her jacket off of her tying it around her waist as she let the mark of the wraiths be known to all of those around them. The barracks were all but quiet when she did. “Can you all stop staring at me? I’m no one special here. I’m here to train and get strong just like the lot of you. So what if my father is a lord of Militia-it doesn’t make me anything special.” Reyna said as she went back to eating her dinner.
  • “You can’t seriously be telling me that you are just going to shrug off the fact that you went through a month's worth of training for any demon in seven hours.” Zane stated as he walked up to Reyna
  • “Just because I’ve been working my butt off in something that I’m passionate about doesn’t mean that I’m crazy. It just means that I know how to set my priorities which all of you could learn to do. I’ve been training to kill my own mother since I was old enough to walk and understand the basics of Magic and what bond I have with Nala.” Reyna said between bites of her food.
  • “Ya’ll be sexist I swear. I don’t see why it’s so damn bad that Reyna and I work together as a team as well as we do and have been able to complete what we have for as long as we have.” Nala said as she pushed the tray away from her and stood up looking straight to Zane
  • “You’re females, of course you’re going to be looked down upon.” Zane stated seriously “You two are the only females here. So you’re at a disadvantage.”
  • Reyna finished her dinner before she got up walking slowly up to Zane before she took the tray he had in his hand out of his hand giving it to Nala who placed it on the table before Reyna quickly swiped his feet under him in seconds before she looked to Nala. “Let’s go. We don’t need to be near the negative energy here.” Reyna said as the two girls left the commander on the ground dumbfounded.
  • Zane realized just how bad things had gotten and knew he’d have to show Reyna just who was the better demon. No half breed demon was going to get the better of him-no matter if her father was a lord of Militia. Forgetting about his dinner Zane got up and followed after the princess before pushing her into the ground. Reyna almost stumbled onto the ground hadn’t it been for Nala who caught her as she changed into her dragon form. Nala growled at Zane as Reyna patted Nala telling her to calm down without saying a word.
  • Reyna then stood up straight as she looked directly at Zane. “Okay stick less wonder what do you want? You obviously have a serious leg bone to pick with me so out with it. What can I do to get you to get off of my rear?”
  • “Stop this nonsense, there is no way you can out do the best of the best.” Zane said as he patted his chest
  • Reyna raised an eyebrow at him. “You’re the best that the military has? You’re joking right?”
  • “No...I’m not. You should respect your elders. To me you are no princess, to me you’re just a brat who killed my wife.”
  • “You had one job and you messed up on that, if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have been around the acid dragons to begin with. I wouldn’t have dealt with what I have for the last few years nor would I have the courage to stand up to my own mother. I realize that I am not wanted and I fully acknowledge that I am dusting you in everything that took you years to perfect. But I’m not you. Everyone is different. Leave me alone.” Reyna said before she went on top of her dragon. “You dare try to touch me without my permission. I won’t hesitate to burn you to a crisp-this is your only warning Zane.”
  • With that Nala took off with Reyna, Zane didn't know where they were going but he couldn't let her go off on her own. He had to teach her a lesson so he flew off after them and tackled down the young demoness half breed as he threw her against the wall of the dining hall. Reyna's back hit the wall hard but didn't show how much it hurt, she instead got up dusting herself off. "Do you want to be killed? I gave you a warning."
  • Zane scoffed. "Like you'd ever kill me."
  • The soldiers from the dining hall came out as did Ivan as he looked rather confused. "What's going on here?"Ivan asked Reyna
  • "This male won't stop touching me and trying to * me off. I gave him a warning that I'd kill him if he tried to touch me again but he didn't listen. I will do it." Reyna said seriously
  • "You have a point there, but you cannot kill him without a proper duel between the two of you. So to properly duel one another to settle this once and for all we're going to the practice ground." Ivan said before he flew off.
  • Reyna was quick to follow him as did Zane, when they got to the practice ground Ivan explained that anything went and the first person on the ground back first lost and would have to leave the area immediately. They agreed before going back to back with one another, after stepping back five times they were able to see one another. Ivan got from the middle and instantly Zane went straight for Reyna's weakness which was her angelic blood. Reyna didn't seem phased by it as she blocked everything he gave out.
  • While Reyna had blocked everything that was coming at her due to Zane's magic she had gotten closer to the elder male only for her to use her whip as she strangled him with it and kicked him down to the ground back first as she stepped on his chest looking down at him. "Get lost Zane, you lost-I won. I'm not to be messed with for a reason. I am a weapon of destruction, not some weak woman who can be pushed around." She said coldly before she took her whip from around his neck and left out.
  • While she did she glared at the males that had watched. "You all are horrible by the way, some way to treat your future queen. Out of the offspring that are left I'm the eldest so take that into consideration."
  • Reyna was then taken to a place where she could shower then sleep. Once she had finished showering and dressed, she went straight to bed. Keeping her dagger hidden under her pillow just in case. But in the midst of trying to sleep she had one of Avery’s siblings come into the room and shake her awake, whispering softly to her to get her to make a trap instead of being in the bed. She agreed and hoped that the male that had woken her up had a good damn reason to. She was rather tired and in pain, she didn’t want to deal with any more nonsense than she already had that day from Zane. She was more than fed up with those that were in the military, they were making her rather peeved for all the wrong reasons.
  • While Reyna waited in the shadows, some of the guys didn’t like that she had completely dusted and humiliated their commanding officer. They were already sick of the young demoness half-breed after seeing just how much more experienced she was than they were it made them look like laughing stocks next to her.So they went into the secluded barracks for her they went to stab her with their swords while she slept after they all had their fun. The lights turned on only for them to freak out as they saw that they didn’t kill the princess. They killed a decoy made out of pillows as she stood by the light switch with a raven haired male beside her. “Thanks for the heads up Prince Riki Sparkfeed, it’s good to know that your family can keep an eye on my family and I.”
  • “Well you are my elder bro’s partner, he’s busy training his butt off right now so he doesn’t get creamed by you. So someone had to warn you.” The male said with a grin
  • “Well I thank you very much for that, mind taking care of these boys for me?”
  • “Not a problem, I’ll freeze them in place with space magic. You go get the general to deal with them.”
  • She patted his shoulder before she rushed off and went to find Ivan as Riki chuckled darkly as he instantly froze the males into place. He examined each one of them by face only to realize how young they were. They weren’t even teenagers and they were hating on their soon to be queen.
  • “Oh boy you are all in for a rude awakening when the princess gets older.” He muttered shaking his head
  • It wasn’t long before Reyna had come back with Ivan, Ivan was surprised to see a wraith in the barracks. “How did you manage to get here Wraith prince?”
  • “The Princess’s tattoo...It is a gateway between here and the place I live in. From it we can come and go as we please to warn her or protect her as we see fit. There’s always someone watching over her if she isn’t with one of us wraiths, due to the contract with her father being done for.” Riki stated
  • “I see, and you froze my men?” He asked
  • “I had, they had the intent of killing the princess. If I remember, don't you demons have a thing against treason?”
  • “We do, but what proof do you have other than the fact that they are frozen around the bed the princess was to be in?” Ivan asked
  • Riki pushed aside a few of the males showing that the blanket had several holes in it from the swords the males used plus the pillows that were to be Reyna’s body had holes in them as well.
  • “I had saved the princess from being killed, had I not you would have had murders under your own roof, working for you. How would you feel knowing that the princess is under attack constantly by egotistic males who can’t let go of a simple quarrel that was evenly matched between two demons.” Riki stated
  • “My men aren’t savages, they would never do that to her.” Ivan denied
  • “Oh really? Wanna bet Demon?” Riki asked with a raised eyebrow
  • Ivan didn’t know what else the young prince could ever have on his men so he nodded his head. The young male chuckled darkly before he jumped off of the bed locking the door and windows, placing them in an illusion of the room. “This is for safety reasons, you’ll see just what they were trying to do General, and I’ll accept any apology you give me.” Riki stated before he unfroze the males
  • The room had become dark as the three of them watched the five trainee soldiers remember why they were in the room to begin with; to kill the princess while she slept. As they grabbed their swords, fake screams could be heard as Ivan watched in horror. He couldn’t believe that his men actually wanted to kill the princess. Once the five men thought she was dead they went to leave only for the illusion to come undone and they met face to face with Ivan.
  • They all backed away as the saw coming out of hiding from behind Ivan, Reyna-who looked severely hurt emotionally. Ivan then spoke up. “What vendetta do you boys have against the princess?”
  • “We..uh..” One of them started to say before they all began to stutter and mumble.
  • Reyna slowly stood in front of Ivan and looked at the five males. “I realize that I am nothing more than a sixteen year old, that you boys have trained here longer than me.But I have been told my entire life that I have one goal and that is to defeat my mother, a high arch angel who had done my own dear father wrong. You all may have had good childhoods with both of your parents and have good times with your family’s, I don’t have that type of life. My life has always been to work towards the goal of beheading my own mother. I know that I am a mere tool to my father, that I am not his daughter-I am his weapon against the woman who birthed me.”
  • None of them spoke as Riki just leaned against the door, wondering what the princess was speaking about. What he didn’t expect is to see her cry, none of them expected it as the males felt regret in what they had done as she spoke once more to them.
  • “My entire life I couldn’t do anything that I wanted to do, it was ‘you have to do this’ or ‘you have to do that’ just so I could become strong enough to beat those who are older than me. Not even two years ago I had to murder my own sister just because she hated me. She hated my own existence because I wasn’t a full demon girl, because I took up the time that would have been used for her. I know that people will hate me-that I will be expected to go past the expectations of those before me, but how can I without the acceptance of those who will be placing themselves on the line for the place that I should have called home all this time? I’m not perfect, I’m not anywhere near that...I know that.”
  • Reyna then sniffled a bit as she looked down. “I just wished that you boys learned how to not place your ego before logic. I did nothing to provoke that male who had repeatedly done what he had to me-I constantly tried to make him stop pestering me but he was stubborn. He never wished for me to part ways and keep things civil all cause of what I was trained and drilled to do since I was only five years old. Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to grasp that I have to kill my own family just to be accepted anywhere?!”
  • The boys never understood why she knew what she did-now getting the bigger picture, they knew where they *ed up. Ivan placed a hand on Reyna’s shoulder. “Go to the Dragons cabin, be with Nala for the night. We will speak more about this in the morning.”
  • “Y..Yes sir.” Reyna said before she looked at Riki. “Thank you for what you’ve done. You may return home for now.”
  • “Of course princess, I will let my brother know about what has happened as well as my father.” Riki stated before he bowed his head and disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke.
  • Reyna unlocked the door and left to go and sleep with Nala who placed her wing over her dearest friend as she was cuddled with. Reyna silently cried herself to sleep feeling rather down about what had come to pass. Come the next day when Reyna and Nala had gotten up for breakfast people were whispering around her as they walked by. Reyna ignored it for the most part as she knew that she couldn’t do much of anything about what was going on.
  • When she ate breakfast with Nala, Nala could see that something was terribly wrong with her and placed her hand on her friend’s arm. “Are you alright?”
  • Reyna shrugged as she ate her food silently, after eating she left out without a word not caring about the eyes that were on her. She soon met up with Ivan who placed a hand on her shoulder. “This is where your trial will begin, the trial should take you no more than an hour. If it does then I will go in and find you where we will start again together.”
  • She nodded her head as she was told she could go, the first part of the trial was for her to walk carefully in a straight line while there was hot acid on either side of her. Reyna was careful with her steps and when she got to the other side she saw her soul mate with a grin on his face.
  • “Hey princess, why the gloomy face?”
  • “I...Just what are you doing here Avery?”
  • “Father believes it’s best if I train with you. I’ve been waiting about oh..fifteen or so minutes for you. C’mon let’s finish this together alright?”
  • Reyna’s eyes lit up knowing that she’d be going through the trial with Avery, she nodded her head and took Avery’s outstretched hand. The two of them walked together until they saw that the next trial was dealing with dark imps that had sharp spear heads in their hands. Avery shook his head.
