Book one: The Misfortunate One
  • Lou couldn't believe just what was happening and sighed out as he rubbed between his eyes. "Reyna, you are more than welcome to stay here until your father comes to his senses. Being that I know what it's like to be a parent it's rather sad to hear that you've been neglected by the very man that I swore to protect. If it'll ease the worry and thoughts in your mind, I will personally talk with him if he comes around here."
  • Reyna nodded her head. "Please, I know he will not listen to my uncles or my aunt...but you two have formed a friendship and a bond that I know he'll trust."
  • Lou gave her a sincere smile. "Very well, Avery, I would like for you to show the princess around and introduce her to all of your siblings properly."
  • "Yes father." Avery stated as he got up he then held his hand out to Reyna.
  • She shook her head. "I...I rather not. I know that I am over emotional right now, which is something I know I got from my mother's side. I wouldn't want anything to happen to me because of my own angelic blood." She said getting up
  • Avery frowned at her. "I do hope that one day that won't become a problem, that we can find a way around that so you don't end up having the need to push me away from you like this."
  • Reyna said nothing as she kept her hands together in front of her. The duo went out of the room and Avery introduced her to most of his siblings-the only one that she knew of was Riki who was the second eldest of the bunch. Riki saw that Reyna wasn't happy and was concerned for her just as much as Avery was. "Princess will you be alright?" Riki asked concerned
  • Reyna shook her head no. "I have found out the reason why my father would always push me towards other people...he doesn't wish to have me as his daughter. I just hope being here will make him understand just how I feel about him using me as he has."
  • "I can understand how that'd make you upset, princess. Please do make yourself at home and don't hesitate to ask any of us anything. We'd be more than happy to help you out with anything while you're here." Riki said sincerely to her
  • She gave him a slight nod of her head before Avery took her to his room where they sat across from one another, he didn't like how things were going for her and knew he had to try something when it came to her. Avery got a bit closer to her and went to reach for her hands only for her to place her hands together between her legs. "P-Please don't try to touch me...I don't want to turn to dust..."
  • "Please just trust me, Reyna. I know you're scared and I know that things aren't as they should be for you and your father. But...I want to try to ease some of your pain."
  • Reyna looked at him rather upset. "B-But..."
  • "Trust me Reyna...."
  • She sighed out and shut her eyes for a moment before she slowly got her hands from between her legs and placed her hands out in front of her. Avery softly took her hands in his as she looked at their hands, concerned about what would happen to her. But as he held onto her hands gently, nothing happened to her. Reyna's green eyes widened in utter shock as she realized that the emotions she felt weren't due to her angelic blood. She teared up and she quickly hugged Avery tightly, he hugged her back as he rubbed her back softly.
  • "I told you that you could trust me, Reyna." He spoke softly to her.
  • "I-I'm sorry for doubting you, one of my aunts told me that I'd get emotional due to my angelic blood. S-She never told me what type of emotion that I need to be careful about." Reyna said through her sobs
  • Avery pulled her closer to him as her legs went on either side of him as she nuzzled her head against his shoulder as she ended up falling asleep against him due to how much she had been crying. Avery ended up cuddling with her as she was asleep, while she slept Lou came into his room with Zavier in tow. Avery instantly sat up as he glared at Reyna's father. "Why are you here?"
  • "I'm here to take Reyna home, she needs to become stronger to defeat her mother. She can't do that if she is here." Zavier said seriously
  • "Reyna isn't going anywhere! She is too depressed to do anything!" Avery hissed out. "As her friend and her mate, I refuse to let her deal with anything that is going to be stressful for her. If you aren't going to be her father figure then just leave her alone!"
  • "Shut your mouth boy! You have no say in what happens with her! I don't care what you are to her, she shouldn't have come here!"
  • Reyna soon woke up as she heard her father's voice, she hugged Avery from behind and placed her head against his shoulder. "I won't go anywhere without a proper apology from you. I won't even call you father because you haven't shown me that you have what it takes to be one. Making me kill Luma then doing what you had to me-it's clear to me that you aren't suitable to handle the responsibility of being a parent." Reyna said unamused
  • "Young lady, you are to come with me right now! You aren't to talk back to me!"
  • Reyna shook her head. "No. I'm not going anywhere, I'd rather stay here with Lord Lou and his children than deal with you and your nonsense."
  • Zavier had it with his daughter, he grabbed her by the arm to pull her away from Avery only for Avery to activate the mark on Reyna's arm making a portal back to the Militia kingdom as the duo kicked the Lord back to his kingdom before the portal closed. Lou was rather stunned to see the fact that his son had done what he had. It impressed him a lot to see what he could do with the help of the demon princess.
  • "As you can see, talking to him never did anything, Reyna I will personally train you and my son from here on out. If you wish to take down those who have made you who you are today-it will be the only way you will be able to do so." Lou said seriously
  • Reyna got up and she nodded her head. "Yes please my lord. I would be honored if you would be my teacher from here on out."
  • Lou nodded his head before the three of them left Avery's room. Lou took them a bit away from the castle where it was an empty space with nothing more than a few black wood trees. Lou then crossed his arms as he stared at his son. "The first thing we will start with is the bond between the two of you. Avery when the time comes you will be the one to answer the call of Reyna when she needs you. Living where she is isn't going to happen, and she can't live here either. Both habitats are bad for the other. That is why there is a barrier around this place."
  • "I thought it was to protect us from the angels?" Avery asked confused
  • Lou shook his head. "No-no..that's not the case at all. The angels aren't phased by the air here-it is why your mother lived here with me for so long. Now you two have a rather interesting bond with one another; not only are you two the eldest of both of your kingdoms but you two are the start of a new era of relationships. It was called in the books as the soul mark bound era. The mark of each 'lover' would have it on the opposite side of their lovers. For you two it's on your hips out of sight, you two will have to understand that as long as you two are around one another you two will always find an emotional and physical pull towards one another."
  • "I had heard about that from my auntie when she had came to see me to warn me about the woman that birthed me." Reyna explained
  • "I see, so you may be familiar with some of what I will say then. Depending on what it is and how close the mark is to the person's waist depends on if the love between the duo will be a power couple or a couple that will have a weak love for one another." Lou explained
  • Avery looked down at the mark he had on his right hip. "...so this could be a hit or miss between the Princess and I?"
  • Lou chuckled a bit. "Fear not son, I have already taken the liberty of finding out about the mark you and Reyna have, you two are rather lucky. When you two become of age-you two will be the strongest power couple out there. The mark you two have on you is one of the strongest marks to be placed out by the gods."
  • Avery's purple eyes widened in shock before he looked at Reyna who gave him a small smile. "Seems like we have nothing to worry about Avery."
  • He smiled and nodded his head. "Yeah, it seems that way."
  • "In that respect you two must become closer, the only way that it can happen is if you two train together and learn each other's abilities for the future. Now, Avery, you've trained under the demons for a while now, let's see if you can control your form. That will be your task, I want you to take form and keep your control. If you can do that then you will be able to move on. If not then it'll be what you'll be working on for a while until you can." Lou explained
  • Avery nodded his head as Reyna backed away from him knowing just how large his form would be, Avery took a deep breath before he turned into his wraith form only for him to first seem out of control before he saw Reyna fly into his view, he stopped becoming chaotic and placed out one of his hands for her to land on top of. She landed on his hand before she knelt down and placed her head against his hand.
  • "You need to control yourself, it'll be okay Avery." She said sincerely to him
  • His father soon took his own Wraith form which was slightly taller than his before he taught his son what he needed to know about the form he would take. Reyna sat on the shoulder of Avery as he trained with his father, watching how hard Avery worked really made her happy to know that he was willing to work hard for their relationship to work out in the end. Two hours into the training Reyna fell asleep only to wake up when Avery changed back to his 'human' form which made her freak out as she ended up falling into his arms. Avery chuckled as he saw how flustered the young demoness was.
  • At that time there was a loud bell sound only for the three of them to see that it was just one of Reyna's aunts who was unarmed. Lou was confused as he kept the two teenagers behind him. The female that came up to them was a female Reyna didn't know. "Malia why are you here?"
  • "Ouch...you can't even call me your mother?"
  • Lou glared "You aren't my mother! You gave me away and had my blood changed because you couldn't stand that my father loved you! Why are you here?!"
  • Malia sighed out and flicked back her blond hair. "I came here to talk to Reyna Militia. My niece...let me speak to her young man."
  • Lou scoffed. "There's no way in hell I'm letting you talk to her! Take your angelic ass out of here now!"
  • "Is that how you treat your mother Lou?!"
  • "YOU AREN'T MY MOTHER BE GONE!" Lou shouted as he began to go back into his form once more.
  • Avery hadn't ever seen his father be so mad before and chose to take the young princess away from his raging father so they wouldn't get harmed. Once they were far enough away the duo could see that Lou had completely destroyed the angel as she turned to dust. Reyna's eyes widened in utter shock. "H-Holy damn!"
  • "Yeah...that happens to all angelic people who touch one of our kind now. I'm glad you're not like that, Reyna." Avery said before he kissed the top of her head softly
  • She blushed as she looked up at him. "I...I sorta am though, my mother is an angelic *."
  • "But you don't call upon that blood though, you mainly work with your demonic blood which is stronger than your angelic blood. It's why I wasn't worried about being around you beautiful. Now let's give my dad time to calm himself, he'll find us when he's done having a tantrum."
  • "O...okay."
  • He took the two of them to the castle library where they read up on things they had no knowledge of. Avery soon read something that really made him excited, he got Reyna’s attention before he had her read what he had found. She was silent as she read what he had only for her to look at him. “This could help both of us.”
  • “I know, that's why I showed it to you. I think I remember seeing something like this near where we first met.” Avery explained
  • “Well let’s see if we can find this and go from there.”
  • Avery nodded his head and the two of them left out, as they flew off-they did, they saw that Avery’s father was still going through his rampage. Both of them flew off quicker and kept their eyes open for a large building that may-or may not be in shambles. It was an hour before they had managed to find the building. The building was made out of a dark black brick and was surrounded by a protective magical circle. Neither one of them knew if they’d be able to get past it but Reyna tried. She placed her hands out in front of her and shut her eyes to calm herself before she walked forward. Reyna soon made her way through the barrier as she felt a warm sensation go over her. She soon opened her eyes and looked at Avery.
  • “I got through! See if you can do the same Avery!”
  • He looked at her unsure before he got close to it, she held her hand out to him. “C’mon-I can trust you, put some trust in me back.”
  • Avery placed his hand in hers before she pulled him into the barrier only for him to feel the warm sensation as well. Avery looked around a bit confused. “This place has cleaner air than the air we both are used to breathing.”
  • “I noticed that too.”
  • “Let’s see if we can speak with the goddess.” Avery stated before they walked hand in hand into the temple
  • The temple was completely empty of people, it was rather dark-so neither one of them could see until Reyna lit one of the torches making it so they could see. While they walked she lit all of the torches and illuminated the entire temple. When they got to the center of it they saw a large statue of a female wearing a robe with her hand out in front of her as she held a book in her other hand.
  • Reyna looked up at the statue in awe before she looked at Avery. “We need to be respectful here otherwise she’ll dismiss us from this place.”
  • He nodded his head. “I know, The book said to pay our respects we need to bring forth something that has magical means to it.”
  • “Well that’s rather easy for me.” Reyna said as she took her magic book out and placed it on the altar.
  • Avery then placed a locket on the altar. “The locket was my mothers-it had magical properties to it which I can’t seem to unlock. Now...We need to bow down to the statue and summon her with a chant.”
  • Reyna looked at him confused. “What chant might that be?”
  • “Goddess of magic I call to thee, Goddess of Magic I wish to see thee. Please come forth and speak to me.”Reyna’s sword spoke
  • “Goddess Ryse!” Reyna said quickly before she slid her sword out of its sleeve and looked at the blade
  • “Sorry about that kiddo-I...I was just in so much shock. Wait...where are you?”
  • Avery came into view placing a hand on Reyna’s shoulder. “We’re at one of Goddess Tina’s temples. It was surrounded by a protective spell, but we were able to enter it.”
  • “Huh...interesting. I wouldn’t have thought that she’d do that to her own temples. But I guess all of us were different. Tina is a rather *y woman if provoked. So don’t say anything that will * her off.”
  • Reyna and Avery nodded their heads as they knelt down and said the prayer that Ryse spoke earlier. It wasn’t long before they saw behind the altar a rather short female with black hair and pink eyes. “Well-well, seems like I haven’t been forgotten after all. I was half tempted of taking all the magic from here. Who might you two be?”
  • “My name is Avery Sparkfreed and beside me is my soulmate Reyna Militia. We come to you to ask you a favor per person.” Avery spoke sincerely as he kept his head down
  • Hearing their last names peeved her but she couldn’t be mad at them for being born with their names. “Rise both of you, I can tell you two have been through a lot so I will not add to.”
  • Both of them quietly stood up only for Tina to see the sword that Reyna had in her hand. Tina went around the altar and looked at the blade of the sword. “Reyna dear, that sword...is that the sword of Ryse?”
  • “Yes ma’am it is. Goddess Ryse?”
  • Ryse showed herself and grinned at her friend. “Sup *? Miss me up there or are you happy that I ended up here instead?”
  • “Girl you’re lucky you’re in that sword then up there. Your man isn’t as loyal as you think he is.” Tina said with a sigh “But on a different note, Reyna-Avery you both wished something from me. For lighting up my temple and for being so gracious to me I will grant you both one favor. Avery you may speak yours first.”
  • Avery looked at her hopefully. “My favor is to have my mother return to my father as the same as him and I. My father cannot control himself without her around, he will soon kill everything and one in his way until he has tired himself out emotionally, mentally and physically if he constantly goes in the route he’s going in.”
  • “That’s not selfish at all-I’m surprised. The last wraith that came to me wanted to have the means to overpower any angel they wanted. But yours...it’s rather sweet of you. Your mother was an angel...wasn’t she?” Tina asked
  • Avery frowned and nodded his head. “Yes ma’am...s-she was.”
  • “Well you’re lucky that the lord of the undead is my husband-otherwise this wouldn’t be happening. I can pull some strings with him and you’ll have her back no problem.” Tina said before she looked at Reyna. “Okay your turn little demoness, what’s your favor?”
  • Reyna frowned as she looked down. “Mine is a bit selfish...but it’s for a good reason. I wish to no longer be the daughter of the people who birthed me. In short...I don’t want to be anymore.”
  • Tina was stunned to hear such a request from a demoness. “Wait-hold up, hold up, hold up there missy! You want me to kill you? Is that what I’m hearing right now? Why...Why have me do something like that when you have such a sweetheart beside you?” Tina asked confused
  • Reyna shut her eyes as she held onto the sword a bit tighter. “My parents don’t love or care for me, they never wanted me. My mother blatantly stated that she never wanted to have a monster like me...and my father never raised me after finding where I went. I’m nothing more than a tool for destruction and war for him. I’m not their daughter. I don’t want this type of life, I don’t want to be known as the demoness angelic freak that *ed up everything.” Reyna said before she broke down crying
  • Tina looked at her stunned “You poor thing..”
  • “My father had me kill my own elder sister which I just found was against laws and I found out just how much my father doesn’t love me. I can’t live like this...I can’t deal with this type of life. Yes I love Avery to pieces-but this isn’t the type of life that I thought I was going to have.” Reyna said through her tears.
  • Tina stopped her and cupped her face in her hand. “Listen here Reyna, I’m going to make things right. With my elder sister who is the goddess of fate we will figure this out together. I will not sit by and let this happen. Your people were made by me and I refuse to deal with this nonsense! Sit tight kiddies I’ll be back within the day.”
  • Once Tina left Reyna fell to the ground as she dropped the sword, she placed her hands over her face and sobbed out. Avery knelt down by her and hugged her tightly rubbing her back. Reassuring her that everything would be more than alright, it was the only thing he knew he could do. Ryse was stunned to hear what had come out of Reyna but knew it was going to happen. She left the two of them alone as Reyna soon leaned against Avery, sobbing out against him. Her emotions getting the better of her.
  • After a half hour she stopped crying and just leaned against him as she felt too depressed to say or do anything. Avery sat on the ground with her on his lap, he stroked her back softly as he kept his eyes on her, he wanted nothing more than to see her smiling once more. But he knew it was going to take time. Two hours went by and they were still on the floor when Tina came back with two people-one on either side of her.
  • On the left side of her was a pale looking male with silver eyes and hair while to her right was a red haired female with golden eyes. Avery and Reyna both got up from the ground as Reyna wiped the tears from her face. “Goddess.” Reyna said as she bowed respectfully to her
  • “Reyna dear, I’ve talked things out with those above and we’re all in agreement-your parents are *. With Tyche’s help we will be rewriting your life with your father and elder sister Luma. It has been shown that Luma and your father have been controlled by disciples of a male who I had been on good terms with. In short someone was playing with Chaos and lost. But we can change that rather easily. All I need to know from you is this simple question; are you willing to relive your life with the memories you have now?”
  • “Before I answer that...will Avery keep his memories or will it just be me who keeps memories?” She asked curiously
  • “Due to him being at your side and showing that he is selfless-I can tell you straight up front that he will keep all memories that he has gained.” Tina said with a smile
  • “Then I am willing to go through with it.” Reyna stated with a firm nod of her head
  • “Good, glad to hear it. There’s a reason I spoke about your favor first-to do his favor time will need to be rewound.” The male beside Tina stated
  • “Not to sound rude but who are you?” Reyna asked
  • “Names Bryce Morte-Lord of the underworld, but people usually call me Hades though. Whichever you wanna call me is up to you kid.” The male commented with a shrug of his shoulders
  • “Is there a certain reason why things would have to be rewound so far?” Reyna asked him
  • “Yes actually! You see little kid-for me to know who the hell I’m changing and booting out of the depths of the underworld I need to see who and under the circumstances it happened. Now...if it was something bull * like-like say for instance it was a no-no spell then I can help. But if she was impaled or in war then no can do.” Bryce stated
  • “What would you call a ‘no-no’ spell?” Avery asked confused
  • “There’s a book the founders had that was basically a book of ‘no-no’ spells. They knew not to touch the spells, but I know the founders are basically in hiding and/or no more. Their things were stolen from them by the angels. So if a spell was casted upon your people then I can talk to Amara and we can fix that situation. Especially since anyone that casts a spell from that book instantly gets years taken off of them and I can have that person take the position of your mother.” Bryce stated
  • Avery and Reyna looked at one another before Avery looked at Bryce. “I think it might have been one of those spells. The reason my mother died was due to a spell that her father, who she disowned casted. It made it so us wraiths couldn’t touch angelic blood anymore.”
  • Bryce rubbed between his eyes as he sighed out. “Yeah...that’s one of the spells alright. Look here kid, I need to know the specific time and date that your mother died.”
  • Avery nodded his head. “It was at half past four on the seventeenth of the seventh month five years ago.”
  • “Wow, your memory is good.” Bryce said shocked
  • “I know that cause at the time my parents were having a talk with me and the woman who I had been with at the time. She too was an angel so when my mother turned to dust-so did she.” Avery said with a sigh
  • “Yikes, sorry to hear that kiddo. Anyways, with that information I can stop it from happening. To make things go right neither one of you will have memories of any of this until you see one of the three of us.” Bryce stated
  • Reyna placed her hands together confused “So...What will happen now?”
  • “Tina and I will reverse time, We will be in touch with the two of you. Ryse will go back to where she was and await you Reyna.” The female beside Tina stated
  • She nodded her head before The two females casted together and a flash of white light happened. Reyna ended up sitting up at the age of six, she noticed she was in a room with her elder sister who was laughing at her.
  • “Oh wow, nice going reyna. You really are useless!”
  • Reyna shook her head. “I’m not useless!” Reyna stated firmly “You’re just a big meanie!” Reyna then left the room and walked to a big room where her father and her uncles all sat talking with one another. When the older males saw her they all stopped talking. “Princess Reyna, what are you doing here?”
  • “Luma is being a meanie! She keeps knocking me down with a big stick and laughing at me! Calling me useless and other mean things.” Reyna said sadly
  • Zavier got up before he went up to Reyna picking her up. “Let’s see what your sister has to say about what you said.”
  • “You don’t believe me?” Reyna asked
  • “Of course I don’t, you’re just a child.”
  • Reyna pushed out of her father’s grasp and flew upwards with her wings. “Meanie! You’re a meanie too! I hate you daddy!” She screamed before she flew off with tears in her eyes. She could hear her father calling her name, but she didn’t look back or listen to him. She kept going forward until she made it to an unknown place to her. The ground wasn’t the same color as the ground she was so used to. It was dark purple and black, she placed her feet down only to look around her. “W-Where did I end up?”
