Book one: The Misfortunate One
  • Nala swooped down to get Reyna before she flew off, it was two days of searching before she saw them going rooftop to rooftop. She had Nala go down and land on Nala’s back before the two cats looked up at Reyna. “You’re a demon, whose kid are you?”
  • “Nice to meet you too, Auntie Andrea. My name is Reyna, I am your eldest brother’s daughter. Even if he denies it due to only ever wanting Luma.”
  • The two cats looked at one another before they both agreed to go to Militia with Reyna. Reyna held onto them tightly and it was a two day flight back. Nala crashed inside of the palace gates as Reyna petted the top of her head. “Go rest and eat. You did well.”
  • Nala did what she was told as Reyna took the two cats and went into the dining area where her cousins, sister, father and uncles were all eating. Reyna placed the cats on the table as they instantly went to Zavier and scratched him four times on the face.
  • “HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO YOUR DAMN DAUGHTER! WHAT WOULD MOTHER AND FATHER SAY ABOUT HOW YOU’VE BEEN TREATING YOUR DAUGHTER! I DON’T CARE IF IT WAS CAUSE OF AN ANGEL THAT GAVE YOU HER! YOU DON’T TREAT HER ANY DIFFERENT!” Andrea stated angered
  • Everyone stopped eating as they all could hear the voice of the angered demoness inside a cat’s body. Nile looked to Reyna as he leaned against the table..”Okay kid, how did you know they were cats?”
  • Reyna looked at her uncle. “No one ever believes anything I say-so like you’d believe me. I’m leaving now, I know I’m not wanted here. I’ll be living with the dragons and if there’s a wraith male by the name of Avery that comes by here-tell him to go home. He’s not wanted or needed.”
  • Reyna left without another word before she walked to the lake where she knew she’d find the dragons on the opposite side. She went into a row boat and went to untie it only to see her father and sister who had been in tears come up to the pier. She ignored them and paddled her way to the dragon's land as she heard her father calling for her. She stopped half way and glared at him.
  • “Stop calling my name! I’m not your daughter!” She shouted back before she went back to paddling.
  • When Reyna got to the other side she tied the boat up only to get attacked by Shadow and Torro who she knew were protecting their home. She remembered all of the spells she learnt from their parents and quickly fought back, placing them down onto their backs before they turned into their human forms. Shadow groaned out as he curled up in pain.
  • “* me that hurt! What the hell was that?!”
  • “Ask your father.” She stated before she walked past him
  • “D-Don’t get near the hut!”
  • “Torro-Shadow, don’t you two dare think you can stop me. I personally have black mail on both of you that I can tell your parents.”
  • The two males looked at one another before they sat up. “Just...Who the hell are you?” Shadow asked
  • Reyna sat in front of the two males before she ran a hand through her hair. “My name is Reyna Militia-as my name states, I’m royalty. My father knows your parents.”
  • Shadow and Torro looked at one another before they got up and pulled Reyna up. “Well Reyna, if you’re his daughter you’re welcome here. Just don’t do what Luma does.”
  • “Which is what Torro?”
  • “* our brothers.” Shadow explained
  • Reyna scrunched her face up in disgust. “Oh hell no, I don’t want to be with anyone. I’m merely going to ask your parents if they can do me a favor before I leave. That’s all.”
  • Both males were confused and curious so they escorted her to the hut and introduced her to their parents who already knew who she was. They welcomed her with open arms, they already had met up with the three gods who were watching over her. Reyna then asked her favor of the dragon duo.
  • “I...I need to ask the two of you something. And you can say no if you wish.”
  • They nodded their heads before Reyna sighed out. “Keep Nala from looking for me, I know she’ll want to find me. But where I’ll be going-she can’t go.”
  • “Where are you going?” Shadow asked
  • “I’m going to see my mother in the angelic realm. Acid dragons will freeze there since you all are used to the warmth of this place. I’m going to be taking Shyla with me since she’s an ice dragon and she’ll be able to handle the intense cold.”
  • Lucas and Amberlin looked at one another before they looked at her. “If that’s what you want to do then so be it. But just know you always have a home here with us.” Amberlin said sincerely
  • Reyna nodded her head as she gave the elder dragons a small smile. “I know, and thank you. Where is Shy right now?”
  • “She’s napping, hold on let me get her.” Amberlin said before she came back five minutes later with a hyper white dragon that was just as small as Nala was.
  • “Reyna, ready to go?!”
  • Reyna nodded her head. “Yeah...Let’s go Shyla. When we get to the angelic kingdom you are to leave me there and never return. What I’m going to do...I don’t think I’ll return.”
  • Shyla looked at her sadly, “What...What are you going to do?”
  • “Face my mother, the one person who wanted to kill me more than anyone as an infant.” Reyna said sadly before she went on top of Shyla. “Let’s get out of here.”
  • Shyla quickly left with more speed than Nala ever had, Reyna mentally apologized to Nala but she didn’t want to drag her friend into her mess. Throughout the week trip to Mirfield Shyla tried to convince Reyna to not do anything stupid-but it went onto deft ears. Once they got to the kingdom Shyla went around until she saw a big castle in the middle of the kingdom. She went in front of the gates to the castle before she set Reyna down, she gave Reyna one last look before booking it back home.
  • Reyna looked up at the large ice building in front of her as she felt more than a bit cold wearing her red tank top and black jeans in the cold. She had no idea how things would go when it came to seeing her mother-so she didn’t know what to prepare, she wished she had so she wouldn’t be so cold. When Reyna got to the gates the guards didn’t let her in as they glared at her. “What business do you have with Queen Emilia Estrella?”
  • “My name is Reyna, I happen to be her daughter. She had given me to my father-but I do not wish to be with my father any longer.” Reyna said calmly
  • The guards didn’t trust her words so one of them went to check with the queen as the other stayed with her, the guard that did raised an eyebrow at her. “How old are you kid?”
  • “I’m sixteen sir.”
  • “Aren’t you a bit young to be riding a dragon on your own?”
  • “The ‘legal’ age in the Kingdom of Militia where my father is the high lord is thirteen. So-no I’m not. Though I am too young to be doing long dragon rides out of the kingdom. But I don’t intend on going back. If my mother doesn’t wish to have me I will be finding a place that will take me in.” Reyna said as she rubbed her arms to keep herself from being too cold.
  • The other guard came back and looked at Reyna. “It seems like you aren’t fibbing, which is strange that we never knew that the queen had another daughter. But your request to see the queen has been approved. I will take you to her to keep you from being lost within the castle.”
  • Reyna nodded her head as the guard took her in and showed her to where her mother- a woman who had blond blond hair that was braided to her left side with emerald green eyes sat in a large dark wood throne with her elder sister-who was a splitting image of their mother. Reyna never knew she had an elder half sister on her mother's side of her family, so seeing the elder woman made her worried that she was in for the same rendition that she had just come out of with her father. The guard then left once they were close enough. While Reyna was inside of the castle she noticed that it was warmer than it was outside-no doubt magic kept it warm. She bowed to her mother respectfully as her mother rolled her eyes.
  • “Wow, such a suck up. Why are you here? I thought your father was training your pathetic ass to kill me.”
  • Reyna raised an eyebrow at her. “Are you serious right now? Did you seriously think that piece of work could actually take care of a child? You really must not know how demons treat their kids if you really thought that I’d be learning anything from that pathetic male.” Reyna said as she crossed her arms “At this rate I want to kill my own father.”
  • Emilia sat up straight and her eyes widened. “Wait...you aren’t here to kill me?”
  • “No...actually I came here to ask that of you to me.” Reyna said as she averted her eyes sadly It was quiet for a moment. She spoke up once more, rubbing her left arm nervously. “You wanted to kill me as an infant, you wanted nothing to do with something that came from a demon. Now that I know enough about life and death. I’m giving you the okay to kill me.” Reyna said with her eyes shut before she opened her eyes. “There’s nothing in this world that is keeping me back. I have no one that loves me, no one will give a damn if I die by the hands of the woman who birthed me.”
  • Her elder sister got up walking up to Reyna before she gently placed her hands on her upper arms. “Why would you ask mother that?”
  • “I’m not wanted.” Reyna said sadly “Mother never wanted me and neither did my father. I was raised by the wraiths from the time I was six till now. My father doesn’t see me as his child and never did. No one will accept me as I am. I’m a freak.”
  • “Now that’s nonsense, at the time I was hysterical over what had happened. I am a bit more level headed and I can see where I went wrong. I apologize if anything you’ve heard about me has made you have a bad impression on me, daughter. I would love to have you as my daughter. Just with you being the age you are...it will be a bit hard for you to bring your angelic side out.” Emilia said getting up and going up to her.
  • Reyna’s eyes widened in shock before she teared up. “M-Mother..”
  • Her sister took her hands off of her arms as Reyna rushed to their mother hugging her tightly. Emilia hugged her tightly and petted the back of her head softly. “It’s okay sweetie, I’ll take good care of you. I promise you won’t have to see that evil man anymore. I love you my dear sweet Reyna.”
  • Hearing the three words ‘I love you’ from her mother made her feel like she was wanted and welcomed into her family. “I...I love you too...Mother.”
  • The three of them went into a different room where the three of them sat down together. Emilia and Astra wanted to hear everything that Reyna went through so they could try to figure out how to go forward with treating her. Hearing what they heard from Reyna made their hearts break, Emilia hugged her daughter tightly and petted the back of her head as she sobbed out once more.
  • “You’ll be safe here my dear sweet little Reyna, Tomorrow we will start your lessons on how to bring the angelic side of you out. Tonight you will see and talk with all of your angelic family. I promise you that they will be more welcoming than those demons.” Emilia said sincerely
  • Reyna nodded her head as she looked up at her mother. “O-Okay…”
  • Astra then got up to go notify her uncles and aunts about what has come to pass as well as her younger cousins. Afterwards, Astra took Reyna around the castle just so she could see where she’d be living from that day on. Astra then showed Reyna her room which was right beside Astra’s, Astra knew that Reyna would need help with blending in with the rest of the angels in the kingdom. So she made sure to help her sister by getting her measurements and shopping for her. While she had, Reyna had soaked in a large tub with bubbles all around her that smelled like strawberries, which she enjoyed a lot. Reyna felt rather relaxed as she had her entire body calming down from the amount of stress that she had been in for the past two weeks. It didn’t take long after she had completely calmed herself a half hour later for her mother to come in with new clothes for her. “Relaxed daughter?”
  • Reyna nodded her head. “Yes mother, I am. Thank you for not shunning me and taking me in.”
  • Emilia frowned as she went up to her daughter and bent down to her level. “Sweetie, I know that what had happened due to your birth was wrong and I shouldn’t have ever had done so-but I want to make things up to you. I wish to give you the life I should have given you from the start. I promise you that you won’t have to do anything you don’t want to do.”
  • Reyna was quiet for a bit before she moved closer to the edge of the tub before she looked up at her mother’s green eyes. “I want to be strong enough to kill my father and demonic elder sister. They’ve done me so much wrong-they deserve to know what it’s like to be in my shoes.”
  • Emilia placed her hand on the side of her face softly. “Then we will do something about that-but before we do. Your sister Astra, you and I are going to a temple not far from here. It is a tradition for us to go there every week. So you will have to get accustomed to it as well dear.”
  • Reyna placed her hand over her mothers. “Okay, I will. May I ask who’s temple we are going to mother?”
  • “The temple of Ryse IacLumar-the woman who had begun everything here. She has a temple not far from here.” Emilia stated
  • Reyna smiled. “Well that’s not surprising, she was the one who began the angelic race to begin with.”
  • Emilia was rather stunned to hear the words that came out of Reyna. “You knew that before now?” Emilia asked
  • “Mother, I know a lot of things. For years I had to learn to do things on my own.” Reyna explained. “The wraiths have a rather large library where I spent most of my time in.”
  • Emilia took a deep breath before she let a small sigh out of her lips. “Well that’s good that you know, let’s see if we can keep you educated if that’s the case. Now I saw the sword you have-that isn’t a demonic sword. Where did you get it?”
  • Reyna’s eyes lit up. “Oh that sword I ended up getting at the end of the demonic military trial that took me to the kingdom of the tree people. One of the prince’s by the name of Shawn was guarding it. He said it was the sword of Goddess Ryse.”
  • Emilia looked at her stunned. “The trial there takes you there? How did you acquire that from the Prince?”
  • As Emilia had spoken she had begun to clean her daughters hair, to begin to take care of her. It was rather easy to see that Reyna hadn’t eaten in the last two weeks and she was rather upset to see such a sight when it comes to her own flesh and blood. Reyna shut her eyes as she allowed her mother to wash her hair.
  • “King Richard Luma had made a portal there-apparently he was rather close to them.”
  • Emilia scoffed at Richard's name. “That man doesn’t understand how we do things here and is on my * list daughter. He didn’t treat you badly did he?”
  • “No, he was rather nice to me. But I had to wait to go into the portal cause of my other half sister.”
  • Emilia looked at her curiously “What do you mean by that?”
  • “Luma and I were racing one another to see who was better-I got to King Richard first, I was told that I couldn’t go in without her for some reason. I had to wait four hours for her before we went into the portal together.”
  • “That’s rather unfair to you.” Emilia said as she rinsed out her hair
  • Reyna hummed in agreement before she spoke once more. “I agree, but it gets worse mother.”
  • Emilia ran her hands through Reyna’s hair as she shook her head. “Oh no, tell me dear.”
  • Reyna kept her eyes shut as she continued to speak with her mother. “Once we got into the portal, I had to do everything and Luma tried to get the sword before Prince Shawn could even speak a word. It was then that Luma was paralyzed for the first time, after that the prince allowed me to get the sword which broke the rock it was in. When we got back out of the portal Luma made up a lie-like she usually does when it comes to me. Saying that I stole the sword from her.”
  • Emilia rolled her eyes. “Pure blood demons are disgusting, no doubt your father had sided with her didn’t he?”
  • “Mhm, he did. He grabbed the sword from me and he had her get the sword from the ground. She was paralyzed once more, so I got it from the ground. I left saying that I proved my worth. Apparently even the corporal general didn’t believe that I could get such a sword-saying that I was ‘just a child’. I might be sixteen but I’m more mature than my elder messed up sister... if I should even call her that.” Reyna said with a sigh
  • “She’s your father’s child-so yeah she is sadly your sister. But don’t worry you won’t deal with that here. I’ll be sure of that dear, now clean yourself up and get your clothes on that I got for you. Once you’re done your sister will style your hair so you can meet your uncles, Aunts and cousins from the better side of your family line.” Emilia said before she kissed the top of Reyna’s head softly.
  • Reyna opened her eyes as she heard the door open only to see her mother leave, once she left Reyna broke down crying. She never felt the love and compassion she felt from her mother before. It was new and it made her feel as if she was unworthy of the love and care she had. She soon got over herself and she washed her face before doing the same to her body, once she was done she undid the tub before leaving it. She dried herself off then looked at what her mother had gotten for her to wear.
  • Her mother had given her a knee length pink and white dress that only had one strap which was on her left shoulder. Reyna had an awkward time placing the dress on herself due to only having the one strap, as she finished placing the dress on she looked at herself in the mirror only to see just how slim fitting the dress was. Reyna felt uncomfortable with the dress latching onto every curve she had on her body. It was rather easy for anyone to see that for a young sixteen year old girl that she was well endowed, which made her self conscious about herself.
  • After looking at her body in the mirror she looked up at her face, her skin was palier than usual due to lack of eating and sleeping, it was very easy to see that she was getting dark bags under her eyes. Her eyes showed just how stressed and tired she was, but she ignored it since she knew that nothing was ever going to change. She was always going to be stressed, it was like the gods knew just what to do to make her stressed out. When Reyna finally left the bathroom she went to her room only to see Astra waiting for her.
  • “I see that mother has made you wear formal wear, that dress must be awkward for you to wear.” Astra stated with a weak smile
  • Reyna shook her head. “I love wearing dresses, just the fact that this one just has one strap makes me feel unease.”
  • “I can see what you mean by that. One good cut on the strap and that thing is off of your body. But you have nothing to worry about here, only family is here and they’d never harm you like that.” Astra said reassuring her
  • Reyna nodded her head slightly. “So...what now?”
  • “Light make-up and I get to help you pick out what shoes you wanna wear. Mother is talking with our aunts and uncle right now.” Astra said “Please come sit sis.”
  • Reyna walked up to her sister who had been nicer to her than the one that she had been fighting with all of her life. Reyna had learnt from Astra how to do make-up as well as how to be more fashionable. Astra also ended up braiding Reyna’s hair and placing it up out of her face before they walked down the halls to the dining area where their mother was waiting for them.
  • When Emilia saw the two of them she smiled happily at her daughters. “I’m so happy to see both of you looking so beautiful.”
  • “Mother.” They said in unison.
  • They were escorted in by the elder blond haired woman before Astra took her seat as the elder angels were stunned to see the red haired female beside Emilia. The male of the lot stood up as he was the first to speak. “My gods...Reyna?!”
  • Reyna nodded her head as she placed her hands together. “Yes, that is my name uncle.”
  • The male went around the table and went up to her as he cupped her face in his hands. “My how you’ve grown to be a beautiful young woman. Why have you come here?”
  • “The disgusting demon that called himself my father refuses to go with his vow to teach me. So I have left to find peace with my mother. I hoped that she would end me like she had wanted at my birth-but forgiveness has come to light so I am here to learn under the guidance of my mother.”
  • The male grinned as he placed a hand on the top of her head. “That is great to hear that you wish to have your angelic side come out. I do hope you find yourself to be more welcomed here than with the demons.”
  • “As I’ve seen so far my mother and elder angelic sister have been so much kinder to me than the male who helped with my birth and the elder demonic female who I had no choice but to call ‘elder sister’. Angels seem to have common sense and reason that demons do not.” Reyna said with a nod of her head
  • The male looked at Emilia. “You better not * up sis, this is your chance to show all of us here that you can right your wrongs.”
  • “I know that and I refuse to let my daughter go this time. I want nothing more than to love her with all of my heart.” Emilia said as she placed a hand on her chest where her heart was. “Reyna this man is your uncle Rosso. He is the only uncle you have, your other has been killed in the kingdom of wraiths.”
  • She hummed out. “Is that so? Mother may I ask...did my other uncle have a daughter who fell in love with a wraith?”
  • “Yes, sadly.”
  • “I see...So that’s who he had killed.” Reyna said in thought
  • Emilia looked at her daughter concerned. “Daughter do you know what happened to your uncle Melo?”
  • “Melo was his name? I see...well I think I do. He had gone to the kingdom of wraiths and tried to use a spell that would have made it so all of the angels that were there would die by touch of anyone with wraith blood.” Reyna stated “He actually had come into the throne room of king Lou who was dealing with an issue between his eldest son Avery, a *y angelic woman who lived within the kingdom and I...when Avery and I were soul mates to be together.”
  • “Soul...mates? Wait, you have a mark daughter?” Emilia asked shocked
  • She nodded her head as she placed her hand over her hip where the mark was. “Yes...sadly. I wish I could burn it off of me. It should be a mark of strength and power...but it has only caused me pain and misery.” Reyna said sadly
  • “The mark system is something that not a lot of people know about or have a lot of knowledge about. So for all you know you could be marked with someone else as well.” Rosso said seriously
  • “That’s very true brother, maybe we can get answers from the goddess after dinner. For now let’s just enjoy dinner and we can go from there.” Emilia said with a nod of her head.
  • Reyna then sat down beside her sister and her mother as she was unsure of what was in front of her. It smelled strange to her and she had no idea if it was even good for her. Astra raised an eyebrow at her sister. “Are you Okay Reyna?”
  • “What is this?” Reyna asked as she poked what was on her plate with her fork
  • Astra giggled a bit. “It’s called chicken sis, have you ever had chicken before?”
  • “Chicken? No...I’ve never had anything like that before...I’ve only ever eaten fruits, vegetables and noodles.”
  • Astra’s eyes widened before she placed her hand over her sister's upper arm. “No wonder you’re so pale. It’s okay sis, it’s good. You’ll be fine, it’ll give you strength to continue on.”
  • Reyna nodded her head and she tried some of it only for her green eyes to light up in joy before she continued to eat what was on her plate. Astra was happy to see that her sister was finally eating, after dinner the trio went to Goddess Ryse’s temple. When they went to the temple Reyna had the sword on her hip. The sword glowed as they got to the altar of the temple, soon a familiar figure to Reyna showed up as she bowed respectfully to the goddess as did her mother and sister.
  • “Well, well, I thought I felt familiar magic. Reyna dear, where are we?”
  • Reyna stood up straight as she had her hands together in front of her. “We are in your temple in the center of your kingdom goddess Ryse.”
