Ballet Boy / Chapter two
Ballet Boy
  • The next morning, when I woke up and went downstairs, I noticed that only mom and dad were up and moving around.
  • "Where's Grandpa at?" I asked as I shoved a piece of waffle into my mouth.
  • "Don't talk with your mouth full Benjamin Jones But Grandpa is sleeping; he didn't feel good yesterday," mom said to me.
  • "So when do your ballet club classes start?" Dad was grinning at me.
  • "I don't know yet; I'm thinking the school is going to give me a list or something else; I'll know when I get to school," I said, looking at dad and mom.
  • A few minutes later, I was at my school, and I headed to the club sign-up sheet, wondering if something would be there to help me.
  • I then noticed that it said next to the ballet club classes that they were after school at three at the main community center.
  • "Okay, nice," I mumbled under my breath.
  • Anyway, my school day wasn't very interesting, but there were a few highlights.
  • Of course Robbie and David made fun of me for the ballet club classes.
  • And I failed my math test and a bunch of other things I didn't really need to talk about.
  • But after school, my parents both picked me up, and I told them my class was at three, and they nodded before driving me off.
  • Two minutes later, we were at the community center, and I got out of the car and told them I would see them later.
  • I actually left my backpack in the car, and then I ran into the community center and headed over to the front desk.
  • The lady behind the desk looked up at me with an annoyed look, and I gave her a nervous grin.
  • "Hello there, how can I help you, young man?" The lady asked me.
  • "Um, I'm here for the ballet classes that are going on," I said, grinning at him.
  • Suddenly the lady's mouth fell open in shock, but she didn't say anything; she just told me the classes were going to be in room ten.
  • I then ran down the hall, and when I got to the room, I headed into the room feeling nervous.
  • When I got farther into the room, all the girls were talking in different groups, and when they heard me walk in, they all turned and looked in my direction.
  • "Oh my goodness, is that a boy?" One of the girls said it out loud in shock.
  • I then noticed a grown woman; she had her hair in a bun, and she looked a bit mean, but she was looking at a clipboard, and then she looked up and noticed me.
  • Then she walked over to me, and I could feel my heart beating inside my chest and in my ears.
  • "Young man, the basketball court is at the end of the hallway," the lady said.
  • "Um, actually, I signed up for the ballet club classes at my school yesterday," I said, grinning at her.
  • The lady seemed surprised, but she looked at the clipboard for a minute, and then she looked at me.
  • "Is your name Benjamin Jones?" The lady asked, looking at me.
  • "Yes, ma'am, that's my name," I said.
  • "Well welcome, you're actually the first boy to have done this in years. Just go sit down, and I don't have any boy ballet shoes so you can just go barefoot," the lady explained to me.
  • I nodded and walked over to a corner of the room, where I sat next to a girl with dark red hair; she was wearing glasses, and then she turned to look at me with a smile on her face.
  • "It's nice to meet you," the girl said, still smiling at me.
  • "Oh, I'm Ben, it's nice to meet you to..." I cut myself off because I didn't know her name.
  • "I'm Gabriella, but you can just call me Gabby," she said, grinning sweetly.
  • A minute later I had my shoes and shocks off, and I noticed the ground was cold, but I didn't care; the only thing I cared about were the girls staring at me.
  • Just then a girl with light blonde hair walked over to me, and she was wearing a professional-looking ballet outfit.
  • "You're in my spot, football boy," she said, glaring at me.
  • I looked at the ground where I was standing and noticed there wasn't a name anywhere.
  • "I don't see your name on it," I said to the blonde-haired girl.
  • "Look, just be a good little gentleman and go stand somewhere else," the girl said in an annoyed tone.
  • I then moved over, and in a few seconds, she was standing right next to me.
  • "Listen up children, you all know how dancing works, and if you mess up, I'll let my wild side loose," the lady said.
  • Everyone, including me, said yes, ma'am, and then we started doing some basic ballet moves.
  • For one of them, I needed to stick one of my legs out, so I did, making sure it wasn't in the way.
  • Suddenly I heard a cry of shock and then noticed the light blonde-haired girl was lying on the ground.
  • Everyone else stopped, and the coach shoved past the group and over to the girl.
  • "Eva, what happened? Are you ok?" The coach asked.
  • "He tripped me!" Eva shouted, pointing directly at me.
  • Everyone else gasped, and after helping Eva up, the coach looked at me with her arms crossed, but she didn't seem mad.
  • "I didn't trip her; Eva did it herself; she tripped over my leg," I said, looking at the coach, then Eva.
  • "Actually, Benjamin, I think it would be best if you stood off to the side and watched today's class so you know what to do next time," the coach said, smiling sweetly at me.
  • I knew I couldn't argue with her, so I walked to the corner away from everyone and lay down on the ground with my back up against the wall.
  • I then walked as everyone else started dancing with each other, and I could see Eva was dancing so gracefully, like she had been doing this for years.
  • An hour later, the class was over, and then I stood up as everyone else grabbed their stuff, and Gabby walked over to me as I put my shoes back on.
  • "Hey Ben, are you ok?" Gabby asked me, sounding concerned.
  • "Yeah, it was fun while it lasted, which wasn't long," I said, grinning sadly.
  • "Oh don't worry about Eva; she thinks she rules this club," Gabby said giggling.
  • I laughed at what Gabby said, and then she nervously cleared her throat.
  • "Hey, I was wondering if you would want to hang out today?" Gabby asked me.
  • "Sure, I can call my parents, and I can walk home," I said, looking at her.
  • Gabby smiled, and then she took my hand and led me out of the classroom.
  • Gabby continued to hold my hand as we walked out of the community center, and I saw Eva outside talking to another girl.
  • "Hello Gabby, is this football boy your new boyfriend?" Eva asked, laughing at us.
  • "No, he's not. I'm just trying to be nice to him, unlike someone else who's only nice if someone pays her," Gabby said, letting my hand go.
  • "Whatever you two do, you'll never be as good as me with ballet dancing," Eva said, putting a hand on her chest.
  • "What a tragedy," Gabby said, rolling her eyes at Eva.
  • Before Eva could say anything else to us, Gabby and I walked away.
  • And then I followed Gabby down the street, wondering where she was taking me.
  • "Hold on, does Eva actually make people pay her to be nice?" I asked Gabby.
  • "Yep, last week Eva helped this old lady across the street, and then she made the lady give her some money for helping her," Gabby explained to me.
  • "Woah, that's sick," I mumbled under my breath.
  • We both kept walking until we got to a small cafe, and Gabby ran over to the door while I just stood there.
  • "Ben, come on, this place is where I always go after class," Gabby said, grinning at me.
  • I then followed behind her inside, and immediately all the wonderful smells hit my nose and I almost fainted.
  • I followed Gabby to a booth, and we sat down in it, me on one side and Gabby on the other side.
  • A few seconds later, an older-looking boy with freckles all over his cheeks walked over to us.
  • "Hey there, Gabby, would you like your usual?" The boy asked her.
  • "Sure thing, Percy, but can you double that? I want one for my new friend here," Gabby said, pointing at me.
  • Percy then nodded and hurried off, and then I looked at Gabby, wanting to ask her some questions.
  • "Say, can I ask you a few things?" I asked, looking at Gabby.
  • "Sure, you can ask me anything you want—just nothing too personal," Gabby said, giggling.
  • "How long have you been doing these ballet club classes?" I asked her.
  • "I've been doing it for about three years," Gabby said, grinning.
  • "What about Eva, how long has she been doing it?" I asked, hoping Gabby would answer.
  • "Oh, Eva has been doing ballet club classes since she was ten, and she thinks she owns the club thing if you saw," Gabby said, sounding annoyed.
  • "Wait, is she rich, or does she live in a big mansion and have a butler?" I asked her.
  • "Actually, yes, her parents own a big car company, and she brags to everyone that they sell ten cars a day, but I don't believe her," Gabby said, sounding annoyed again.
  • Before I could ask Gabby anything else, Percy placed two glasses filled with a strawberry milkshake in front of us and then walked away.
  • "Do you like strawberry milkshakes? That's what I usually get," Gabby said, grinning at me nervously.
  • I nodded before taking a slip and wondering if I should ask her the question I had in my brain.
  • "Hey Gabby, do you think I tripped Eva on purpose in class today?" I asked her.
  • "Oh, my goodness, no, Eva tripped herself; she always does tricks like that to the new kids," Gabby said.
  • "Yippee, I'm special," I said, rolling my eyes, annoyed.
  • We then both started laughing at them, and a few minutes later we left the cafe after our drinks.
  • We then started walking down the street, but Gabby bumped into someone and then tripped and fell on her butt.
  • "Oh, are you ok, princess?" The mystery person asked.
  • I looked at the mystery person and saw it was Robbie standing there, and my mouth fell open in shock.
  • "What are you doing here, Robbie?" I asked him if he was confused.
  • "That's none of your business, twinkle toes," Robbie hissed at me.
  • Robbie actually helped Gabby up, but then she ripped her hand out of his.
  • "What would your actual princess think if she saw you holding hands with another princess?" Gabby hissed at Robbie.
  • Robbie held up his hands, and then, as if on cue, Eva walked from somewhere over to Robbie.
  • "Why hello there, my big, strong man," Eva said, kissing Robbie on the cheek.
  • "Why hello there, my beautiful lady," Robbie said, kissing Eva's cheek.
  • "Wait, you two are dating?" I asked them both in complete shock.
  • "Well duh, we've been dating for two years," Robbie said, grinning at me and Gabby.
  • "Wow" was all Gabby could say.
  • Then, before we could say anything else, both of them grabbed each other's hands and then walked away from us.
  • "How come rich girls always go for the sports guys?" I asked, crossing my arms.
  • "Well, it isn't obvious; it's because they all have muscles to spare," Gabby said.
  • Then we both started laughing, and I told Gabby I had to go home, so she smiled and told me she would see me at the next ballet club class.
  • So we both headed home, and then ten minutes later I got to my house and walked inside.
  • I then walked into the living room and sat down in the armchair, noticing that dad and grandpa were on the couch watching sports on the TV.
  • "Are you home, Ben?" Mom's voice called out.
  • "Mom, I'm in the living room!" I yelled, hoping she could hear me.
  • I then started messing around on my phone until it was yanked out of my hands really quick.
  • I looked up and saw Mom standing there holding it with a glare on her face.
  • "Did you hear what I was saying, young man?" Mom asked in a serious tone.
  • "Um, no, ma'am, I didn't hear what you said," I said, feeling ashamed.
  • "I was asking you, how did your first ballet club class go?" Mom asked me.
  • I then noticed Grandpa and Dad were looking at me, and I could feel my stomach twisting into a knot.
  • I wanted to lie to all three of them and tell them it went great, but another part of me wanted to tell them all what happened.
  • "Well, it was going great until this one girl tripped herself and then blamed it on me, and then the coach told me to go sit and watch for the rest of the class," I explained to my family.
  • "Oh, my goodness, I'm so sorry that happened, honey," mom said, then she hugged me tightly.
  • "If that happened to me, I would have smacked the girl on her butt very quick and hard," grandpa said, wiggling a fist in the air.
  • "That's enough lip for you, Gregory!" Dad shouted at Grandpa.
  • Grandpa mumbled something under his breath and crossed his arms like a fussy little baby.
  • Mom then patted my shoulder and told me she had made her famous veggie soup for dinner.
  • And then we all stood up and headed into the dining room and started eating dinner at the table.
  • A few hours later, I headed to my bedroom. I was supposed to be sleeping, but I just sat on my bed thinking about something until I heard a knock on the door.
