[Finished] Operation Deadly Love
  • Seokjin
  • *Late afternoon – at the precinct meeting room*
  • All eight of us were in the fancy room in our new workplace. I had to admit, it was a pretty amazing room – well, not just room but the whole building was amazing.
  • As the Chief and Captain had said, this building had been built specifically for the Bangtan Dream Project. Everything was so new and modern and still shiny from that new gloss polish. I could not deny that I was excited to use the new stuff, like a child being excited to use new stationary at the beginning of a new school year.
  • The entrance was rather big with a huge door that could be opened and closed both manually or by an overriding system in case of security breaches. There was a foyer with some small meeting rooms where one could talk to people privately.
  • There were also two options – downstairs or upstairs. Downstairs were the morgue and the lab where Namjoon will mostly be working from. There was also another lab for Hoseok to go through the forensic evidence and another lab, this time a tech lab for Yoongi. All three labs were huge and well armoured with the latest tools and technology.
  • Upstairs there were our offices which were linked to one another and another office which belong to Misun only. She had the biggest one since she was our team leader. There was also the meeting room which was something that blew me completely away.
  • Right in the middle was a huge oval table for all of us. There was an enormous screen connected to a sort of computer that was itched in a table. I had sort of seen like it in a TV show once but thought it was just for the show. It fascinated me how with a click of a button , what was on that computer would go straight to the screen.
  • ‘Okay gentlemen, we’ve had a busy morning. Let’s get down to it,’ Misun said, her voice sounding strong, almost as if she was making sure all of us had our eyes on her.
  • There was something about her that was captivating – she was someone who commanded attention even without being annoying. Actually, she just seemed to naturally grab attention with the way she talked or walked or even worked. I could see why they chose her as the team leader, even if she was the youngest. Yet, I knew that no matter how good of a leader she is, she will find those who doubt her and try to second guess her just for being young and a woman. Still, I believed that as a team, we would have her back.
  • ‘Namjoon, please begin with your medical report,’ she instructed, her voice clear.
  • ‘Of course ma’am,’ Namjoon began, forcing Misun to raise an eyebrow. Namjoon chuckled and nodded. ‘I mean Misun, so, as we established this morning, the cause of death for both victims included close-range shots. I confirmed that the time of death was between midnight and one in the morning,’ Namjoon explained.
  • ‘What about the gun?’ Misun asked. ‘Could a silencer have been used?’ she added.
  • ‘It’s hard to tell, there were no markings but I do think so,’ Namjoon explained.
  • ‘Okay good work. Hoseok, please report your findings,’ Misun said as she typed away the information which was appearing on the screen as she typed.
  • ‘Okay. Found a couple of interesting things but first the obvious ones. The model of the gun used was a typical 9mm handgun,’ Hoseok said as she nodded.
  • ‘Those are pretty easy to find and acquire, even under self-defence stance,’ Misun commented. ‘Continue please,’ she said.
  • ‘There were no extra fingerprints in the room except for the two vics and two maids, so that means our perpetrator used gloves. However, I did find some hair which is being examined and also two other things. First, this,’ Hoseok said as he clicked on the computer on the desk and then seemed to send the photo flying to the bigger screen.
  • ‘Is that a footprint?’ Taehyung asked as he leaned forward. ‘Let me guess, special shoes?’ he asked.
  • ‘Bingo. It’s a rare, collector item. There were only six sold in Seoul since their release since they are highly expensive,’ Hoseok commented.
  • ‘So, our perpetrator is quite on the rich side,’ Jimin commented. ‘Can you tell whether the footstep belongs to a male or female?’ he asked.
  • ‘It’s a male, most likely rather young too,’ Hoseok explained.
  • ‘You said there are six right?’ Yoongi asked as Hoseok nodded.
  • ‘In Seoul. Can’t ignore other places but let’s start with the six in Seoul. That means we can narrow down our suspect pool. Yoongi, I want you to try and gather a list of the six who bought these. If you need, use Jin to help you,’ Misun said as Yoongi and I both nodded.
  • ‘Got it,’ Yoongi said as Misun added the new information. I saw Yoongi listing down the information as he began to type away.
  • ‘Hoseok, you mentioned you had two interesting facts. What was the other?’ Misun asked.
  • ‘This,’ Hoseok replied as he showed a picture of a key car. ‘You see, there should be two key cards to their room – one for Dong-Hyun and one for Han-Gyeol but there was only one in the room. The other seemed to have disappeared so either they lost it or—’ Hoseok said.
  • ‘Or it got stolen,’ Jungkook finished for him, as he nodded to himself.
  • ‘Most likely. We should confirm with hotel staff whether it was reported or not. Good work Hoseok. Yoongi, what did you find out?’ Misun said as she turned her attention to Yoongi next.
  • ‘I checked financial accounts. The company was doing extremely well, even though they were using a lot of money for charity,’ Yoongi began as he pulled up the financial records.
  • ‘Hmm that’s interesting,’ Misun commented as she looked on.
  • ‘What are you seeing?’ Jungkook asked as he leaned forward. ‘Oh, is it the difference in success rates?’ he asked and she nodded.
  • ‘Look at Dong-Hyun’s success rate that are nearly at 100%, and then look at his older brother’s ratings,’ Misun commented.
  • ‘Quite a difference,’ I said. ‘It almost seems as if the older brother was actually failing,’ I added.
  • ‘I agree. What else did you find Yoongi?’ Misun asked.
  • ‘Dong-Hyun was pretty active on social media as is wife, but he seemed to get along with everyone. He had a lot of photos with Han-Gyeol, his wife and another woman, however, I found out that woman is actually Han-Gyeol’s sister,’ he commented.
  • ‘That collaborates a lot with what we found out, which trust me, is a big bomb shell,’ Jungkook commented.
  • ‘The truth is that Dong-Hyun and his wife married to hide Dong-Hyun’s sexuality, especially from his father and business rivals,’ Misun began.
  • ‘So, his wife, who has been his best friend since childhood helped him hide his relationship with Han-Gyeol,’ Jungkook added.
  • ‘Damn, talk about really being there for your best friend,’ Jimin commented.
  • ‘What are your opinions about Mrs. Kim? Has she convinced you?’ Taehyung asked.
  • ‘I think I do but still not crossing out her from the list of possibilities. However, with Hoseok’s findings, she drops her name further down in the suspect list,’ Misun said.
  • ‘Someone who is willing to do something like that for their best friend, doesn’t just go around killing them. Then again, money and power can corrupt and she might have motive,’ I said.
  • ‘Especially if in his will, Dong-Hyun left everything for her or maybe for her and Han-Gyeol,’ Namjoon commented.
  • ‘That’s why she remains a suspect for now. Let’s also not forget about our second victim – Han-Gyeol. Right now we’re treating this as Dong-Hyun being the main target, but it could very much be his partner,’ Misun said.
  • ‘I agree, in fact, there’s something else I wanted to share with you,’ Yoongi said as he typed away on his laptop as some screenshots started appearing. ‘From what I could gather from e-mails, social media accounts and messages, both Dong-Hyun an Han-Gyeol were really loved, but, a couple of months ago, Han-Gyeol was receiving a lot of threatening messages from Lee Chanyeol,’ Yoongi explained.
  • ‘Hmm a possible other suspect,’ Misun commented, placing his name and photo on the suspect board. ‘Okay, thank you Yoongi. Jin, anything from you?’ she asked and I nodded.
  • ‘I looked through the CCTV cameras. The corridor camera was not angled properly for us to see what the perpetrator was doing, but we do see him go in, spend just a few minutes and go back out, but not enough data for a facial recognition,’ I said.
  • ‘Dammit. By any chance did you manage to follow him out?’ she asked and I nodded. Instantly, I saw her smile happily.
  • ‘I did. I managed to track him out of the hotel and getting into a taxi. I got the licence plate and contacted the taxi company. The driver will be coming to the station to talk to us later,’ I said.
  • ‘Exceptional work Jin. Well done,’ Misun said with a smile before she turned towards Taehyung and Jimin. ‘What about you two? You had quite a few people to talk to,’ Misun said, almost sounding apologetic to them.
  • ‘You can say that again,’ Jimin said as he leaned forward. ‘We interviewed all the staff that were working the night before and between shifts. Nobody mentioned the missing key that Hoseok mentioned. They said that nobody heard anything at all during the night which might support what Namjoon said about the silencer being used,’ Jimin explained.
  • ‘We also talked to some of the businessmen there. Yesterday, there was a huge dinner for different CEOs from various companies who were actually asked to come by Dong-Hyun. He was promoting a new project where all companies join together to help provide a more equal education, with special emphasis on business and technology,’ Taehyung explained.
  • ‘Everyone had the same words for both Dong-Hyun and Han-Gyeol. Everyone praised them and said they were really good lads. Heck, even those who are business rivals admitted to admiring them. Basically, that they were rivals in business but friends out of it,’ Jimin said.
  • ‘A lot of what was said collaborates with what Dong-Hyun’s wife said as well as Han-Gyeol’s sister,’ Jungkook said.
  • ‘Mrs. Kim also told us about how Dong-Hyun had some clash with his older brother not long ago,’ Misun explained before she stood up and went to the suspect board.
  • ‘So far, these are our suspects. First, the brother – Jae-Hyun. We will be interrogating him after this briefing as soon as we go to arrest him,’ she said as she put up his picture there.
  • Jungkook stood up and took another photo. ‘We also have the wife. She’s less of a suspect, but we’re still putting her there for now. For all we know, she could be after the money,’ Jungkook said as he put her picture.
  • ‘We also have Chanyeol, the peron who was sending Han-Gyeol threatening messages. We should bring him here,’ Misun said.
  • ‘We can go bring him while you go for the brother,’ Jimin said as Taehyung nodded in agreement.
  • ‘Perfect. Meanwhile, Yoongi, Jin work on finding out about those shoes. Also, look at the brother’s financial status and social media,’ Misun directed.
  • ‘On it,’ I said.
  • ‘Boys, time to get back to work. Come on Jungkook, we’ve got a brother to grab,’ Misun said with a small smile.
