Misun
The chief and the captain had both made their introductions, keeping things brief. They talked about the expectations for this newly formed team in short, not wanting to preach. After all, we had a lot of details in the contract.
I could not deny that there was some awkwardness in the air, but that was to be expected, I guessed. None of us knew each other except for the two from the Homicide Department. It seemed as if those two have known each other for years and worked together for quite some time. Even from the first hour of being here, anyone could tell they had an amazing bond. They were both energetic and excited and also quite passionate.
It was still too early to decide on characters and personalities, but there were some clear indications. Namjoon was quiet, perceptive and also intelligent. Jin was also quiet but laid back and easy-going. Hoseok seemed to have a lot of energy and passion as well. Yoongi seemed to be the most awkward as he continuously fidgeted with his fingers nervously. I could relate to him and how he felt about being in a room full of strangers. Jungkook was the youngest of the males and the hardest to read. He was definitely passionate and energetic, but, perhaps a little cocky too.
‘So, before you tell us whether you’re going to accept or not, there are some other things we would like to bring to your attention,’ the Chief began.
‘As you know, we want to provide lodgings for you, where you will all live in the same block of apartments. This block consists of eight separate apartments designed with two apartments on each floor,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘Mr. Kim Seokjin will be moving at the bottom floor along his wife and son, while Mr. Min Yoongi will be facing him along with his wife and daughter,’ the Chief said.
‘Seems like our kids are going to get to know each other well,’ Seokjin said to which Yoongi nodded.
‘Yes, seems like it,’ Yoongi said, rather coldly. He cleared his throat and tilted his head slightly while he played with his fingers, showing how nervous he actually was. ‘At least, they’ll have someone their age,’ he added, trying to make conversation.
‘Maybe they’ll end up doing play dates,’ Jimin said, earning a look from both Jin and Yoongi. Jimin chuckled nervously but didn’t say anything else.
‘Mr. Kim Namjoon and Mr. Jung Hoseok will be moving in level two with their respective partners as well. Then right above them Mr. Kim Taehyung and Mr. Park Jimin,’ the Chief explained.
‘Did you go by a manner of age?’ Taehyung asked, a cheeky grin on his face.
‘A bit, but mostly, marital status,’ Captain Sejin replied with a smile. ‘That leaves top floor to Mr. Jeon Jungkook and to Ms. Yang Misun,’ he added.
‘Any objections to this arrangement?’ the Chief asked but everyone simply shook his head. ‘Perfect. Now for the second important matter and maybe even more important than the lodgings,’ the Chief began. I took a deep breath, knowing the conversation was going to turn on me.
‘As you know, the Bangtan Project or dram, call it as you wish is something of a certain calibre. Although you’ll be working directly with me and being overseen by the Chief, you still need a team leader,’ Captain Sejin said.
I watched as all the boys looked at one another. I gulped slightly, feeling my throat run dry for a moment. I wasn’t sure whether I was ready for the reaction they might show.
‘We have chosen someone who we believe has all the necessary skills. Ms. Yang Misun is going to be your team leader,’ the Chief declared.
‘What?’ Yoongi asked while Jin’s eyes went wide. I saw Taehyung and Jimin both look at me with interest and curiosity in their eyes. Hoseok raised his eyebrow while Namjoon simply smiled, almost as if he had guessed. Jungkook stared at me with a smirk as well.
‘Is there a problem Mr. Min Yoongi?’ Captain Sejin asked. Yoongi’s eyes went wide while his cheeks reddened.
‘Wait! No. no, that came out wrong. I don’t mind the fact that the team leader is a girl. Not at all, I don’t mind it. It’s just...I, um, well no offence Miss Yang, but you’re really young so it took me by surprise,’ Yoongi explained.
‘Don’t worry about it Mr. Min. I’m used to hearing all sorts of conversation about me being a young, female police officer,’ I said.
‘The reason that Miss Yang Misun was chosen was the fact that she is well versed with the outside work. As I told you earlier, her department focused mostly on undercover work,’ the Chief said.
‘And we’re not talking about a few days operation, but sometimes over weeks and sometimes, even over months,’ Captain Sejin added.
‘With that in mind, we believe she knows the streets well and the way certain people or gangs work,’ the Chief said.
‘Well, it’s a pleasure to have you as our team leader and I look forward to working with you,’ Namjoon said, offering me a dimpled smile.
‘Thank you Mr. Kim.’ I said, bowing my head slightly.
‘Please, call me Namjoon,’ he said. I smiled and nodded.
‘So, we’ve gone over the terms and conditions and relevant information. We can move on to signing the contracts,’ the Chief said.
‘Wait,’ Hoseok said as he cleared his throat, forcing everyone’s eyes on him. ‘I’ll accept but I do need a favour,’ Hoseok said, rather sheepishly.
‘Already? Damn give the team a chance to breathe,’ Taehyung said, laughing.
‘It’s not for me or about me,’ Hoseok began. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before he looked back at us. ‘The previous department I was in was run by Mr. Hun. Thing is – he’s a huge sexist and racist. He keeps harassing people and mistreating them but complaints never got anywhere. Can you do something about it?’ Hoseok asked.
I found myself smiling, happy to hear a man talking about this stuff. ‘Do you have any proof I can use?’ the Chief asked. Hoseok nodded and the Chief smiled.
‘Trust me, I have a lot of proof. I wouldn’t come asking you for this big favour without anything to show for it,’ Hoseok replied.
‘Then consider him fired. I won’t allow such people to work under me,’ he added.
‘Thank you Chief,’ Hoseok said with a smile.
‘Anything else you need to discuss?’ the Chief asked.
‘It’s more of a question, rather than a request,’ Namjoon began as both the chief and the captain nodded, encouraging him to speak. ‘Will we be working from this precinct or elsewhere?’ he asked.
‘Good question. You will still be referring to this precinct, however, a new building has been built specifically for your team – one that includes a laboratory and morgue, an IT room, interrogation room and whatever you might need,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘Sweet!’ Jungkook exclaimed, still smirking. ‘I can’t wait to see this place. Does it have a training place?’ he asked.
‘Yes, it does,’ the Chief said with a chuckle. ‘It would be good for you to keep fit and train, perhaps even train together,’ he added.
‘From what we heard, Miss Yang is excellent with hand to hand combat,’ Captain Sejin said, turning the attention to me. I gulped and licked my lips.
‘I know how to handle myself,’ I replied, not wanting to praise myself.
‘Ahh we’ll have to see one of these days,’ Taehyung said with a teasing tone. There was no judgement or doubt in his voice, but rather a certain playfulness. I simply nodded at him.
‘Is everyone ready to sign the contract?’ the Chief asked. I looked at each of the boys as they nodded eagerly and then they turned to me.
‘Time to get started,’ I said as I grabbed the pen and signed. I passed the contract to Namjoon who signed as well. I heard Captain Sejin’s phone ring as he stood up and went to the corner to answer.
I watched as one by one they all signed the contract. ‘Well, this is it,’ the Chief said with a pleased smile.
‘And you won’t be waiting long to start. You have your first case,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘What do we have?’ I asked as I sat up straighter in my chair, ready to get to work.
‘Two male victims found dead in a hotel by a staff member,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘Time to get to work boys,’ I said as I stood up.
‘I’ll send you the details,’ Captain Sejin said as I simply nodded. The boys all stood up as we began to walk together.
‘Shall we carpool?’ Jin suggested as I nodded.
‘I came with my motorcycle so I can only take one person,’ I said.
‘And I came by bus so,’ Namjoon said, scratching the back of his neck.
‘What about we go in two cars? Jin hyung, Yoongi hyung, Hoseok hyung and Namjoon hyung in one, and the rest of us in another,’ Jimin suggested.
‘Sounds good. Let’s go,’ I said as I motioned for him to show the way.
I'm really sleepy so not even attempting to proof read it. Hopefully there aren't too many mistakes. We start seeing the team get together and finally signing the contract. We some aspects of their characters like Jimin and Taehyung being playful and Namjoon being observant but also a bit of a clutz and Yoongi being a little awkward (the cute kind). We also get a hint of their first official case. Who do you think these two males are and why did they get murdered? - I look forward to your thoughts. - Tae's Misfit
