Misun
‘Hey Misun, Boss wants you in his office,’ Yeonjun said as soon as I entered the premises.
‘Thanks Jun,’ I said as I sighed. I closed my eyes and took a sip from my coffee while I walked to my boss’ office. I knocked once and entered, only to find two other men with him.
‘Ah Misun, you’re finally here,’ Captain Lee said as he motioned for me to sit down.
‘Were you waiting for me? I wasn’t aware I had any meetings scheduled,’ I said as I sat down and looked at my wristwatch. It marked seven o’clock – I was definitely not late.
‘No, Misun, don’t worry. You’re not late,’ Captain Lee said chuckling, knowing how much I hated tardiness. ‘I want you to meet two important people. This is Captain Sejin and this is the Chief of Police, Mr. Bang Si-Hyuk,’ Captain Lee said.
My eyes widened a little as I stood up and gave a bow. ‘Honour to meet you sirs,’ I said, my head still slightly bowed.
‘Trust me when I say, the pleasure and honour is all ours Miss Yang,’ I heard the Chief say. I lifted my head, seeing both of them smiling. He motioned for me to sit back down so I did, still unable to look away.
‘We heard a lot of great things about you Miss Yang and your Captain confirmed our findings,’ Captain Sejin said. I looked at my Captain who just gave me a small, but sincere smile.
‘Thank you, Captain Sejin. May I ask what is going on though? Why are you asking about me? Is this about a case?’ I asked, unable to help myself.
‘Not exactly Miss Yang,’ the Chief said as I turned to look at him. ‘You see the Prime Minister himself has asked me to oversee a project called Bangtan,’ he said
‘Bangtan? Is this a new operation?’ I asked as he smiled. I heard my own captain chuckle which made me bite my lower lip, slightly embarrassed.
‘Give him some time to explain Misun. I know your brain is going in full speed mode but give them some time to make things clear,’ Captain Lee said as I nodded.
‘So, this Bangtan Dream project includes setting up a team of highly talented individuals within the police force. This team will be dealing with high profile cases, with unlimited resources and well, let’s say there will also be less bureaucratic aspects or red tape,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘The team will be under the supervision of myself and Captain Sejin and will be made of eight members,’ the Chief explained as I nodded, taking in the information.
‘You are one of the chosen eight, should you accept,’ Captain Sejin said. ‘You came top of your class in every aspect – law, shooting, hand to hand combat, street craft. You also have extensive knowledge of the real world because of your undercover work,’ he added.
‘We don’t want you as just a member of the team. We want you to lead it,’ the Chief said, making my eyes go wide for the second time this morning.
‘Me? You want me to lead a team who was specifically chosen and asked for by the Prime Minister himself?’ I asked as they all chuckled.
‘Misun, you’ve always been destined for greatness. It’s time to go chase it,’ Captain Lee said.
‘I don’t know Cap. It’s an honour, but I work best when I work alone,’ I muttered as the Chief nodded.
‘I know about your past Misun, but I am confident that this team needs you and that you will be able to manage it,’ the Chief said.
‘There are other things which we need to talk about should you want to accept. This is a contract,’ Captain Sejin said as he pushed forward a file. ‘Go over it in your own time and if you choose to accept, come to the address written on it next week at eight o’clock sharp,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘We would very much like you to accept this proposal, but ultimately, this is your life and we will understand any decision you take,’ the Chief said as the two of them stood up. They bowed to me and Captain Lee and left the room.
‘Misun, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s your chance to make a difference, as a cop and even more so as a female cop. Besides, I can’t think of anyone as deserving as you,’ Captain Lee said.
‘I feel like I would be betraying this precinct,’ I said but Captain Lee shook his head.
‘You’re not Misun. For once in your life, it’s time to stop caring about everyone else and think about your own dreams. You’ve always wanted to make a bigger difference and this might be it,’ he said.
‘I’ll go over the contract and think about it,’ I said as Captain Lee nodded. ‘I’ll be at my desk if you need me,’ I said as I grabbed the file and left the room.
Jungkook
I was at the gym, punching away at the punching bag, occasionally giving it a strong kick. I had sweat dripping off my forehead and covering my back, soaking my shirt. The music was blaring loudly in the gym, letting me get lost in it. I was trying to release my pent-up stress and tension from last night. Yesterday, I closed off an investigation about one of the smaller gangs. Even though it was a small one, it had grown dangerous. Two cops got injured but luckily no one from our side died during the raid.
Then I spent a whole night writing out reports. Damn those paper works. There was always another form or two to fill up and always a report to do. I chuckled to myself as I kicked the punching bag and stopped for a moment. I reached for the bench and took out a towel. I wiped my face and put it against my neck as I reached for my bottle. I opened it and took a couple of swigs.
‘Jeon Jungkook?’ an unfamiliar voice called out. I turned around to find two men standing there in their suits. They were completely different – one was tall, hair slicked back and seemed rather fit. He was younger too. The other one was much shorter and, well, on the heavier side.
‘That’s me. Who’s asking?’ I asked as I put down the bottle and looked at them.
‘I’m Captain Sejin and this is the Chief of the Korean National Police Agency,’ Captain Sejin said as he pointed to the older man. I felt my eyes widen as I instantly bowed.
‘It’s an honour to meet you sirs,’ I said. I felt a hand on my shoulder, causing me to stand.
‘The pleasure is ours. Can we talk somewhere more private Mr. Jeon?’ the Chief asked.
‘Yes, of course. Um, we can talk in the break room or we could go to the cafeteria right next door,’ I suggested.
‘The cafeteria sounds lovely,’ Captain Sejin said. ‘We’ll give you some time to shower and pack your things. We’ll meet you there,’ he said as I nodded.
‘Take your time Mr. Jeon. No rush, we’ll enjoy a hot coffee while we wait,’ the Chief reassured me. I nodded as the two of them left and I rushed towards the showers.
I took a quick shower and dried off. I put on a shirt and a pair of pants. I put my badge on and put my gun in its holster. I grabbed my wallet, phone and keys and hurried towards the cafeteria.
I walked in, the bell dinging loudly, telling everyone of my arrival. Instantly, my eyes fell on the two men who were sipping their coffee. I hurried towards them and sat down.
‘That was quick,’ Captain Sejin commented with a chuckle.
‘I don’t like to keep people waiting and what you wanted to talk to me about seemed important,’ I said to which they both nodded.
‘It is extremely important. Captain Sejin and I are currently in the process of recruiting a number of members for a special team,’ the Chief said while I nodded.
‘This was an order from high, high above – the idea to bring about a team of experts in their field. For example, you are well known in the Gangs and Narcotics Department, giving you a unique set of skills that could be useful for this team,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘Okay, but what is this team exactly? What are we actually talking about here?’ I asked.
‘We’re talking about the Bangtan Project or Dream. It’s a team, made of eight experts who will come together to deal with certain high profile cases with unlimited resources,’ the Chief explained.
‘Should you accept, you’ll be one of the members of a highly qualified team,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘You don’t need to give an answer today. This is the contract,’ the Chief said as he pulled out a file. ‘Go through it, read it well. If you do accept, come meet us next week at eight o’clock. The address is written in the file,’ the Chief said.
‘Have the other seven agreed to it or not?’ I asked, curious. The two of them exchanged looks but Captain Sejin shrugged.
‘We won’t know until next week, depending on who shows up or not,’ he said. ‘Take your time with the file but we truly believe you will be an incredible asset to the team and as for you, you will have a permanent team rather than hopping from one to the next,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘I guess, I have a week to think about it,’ I said to which they both nodded.
Seokjin
‘I don’t know honey. I mean, it’s definitely a nice offer,’ I said to my wife Hana while I helped Yoseob with his pasta.
‘It’s more than nice yeobo. I mean, they have literally handpicked you out of so many other police officers to be part of an elite team,’ Hana said.
‘That’s not exactly what they said honey,’ I said with a chuckle, only to receive a roll of the eyes. ‘They did say it was a special team meant to focus on high profile cases,’ I said.
‘We have a comfortable and safe life here but let’s be honest, we both have been wishing for some extra excitement,’ she said, with one eyebrow raised.
‘That’s true enough,’ I said. ‘Accepting this would mean packing our bags and leaving for Seoul. It means you can accept that job offer you received too,’ I said. ‘Ohh here sweetie, drink a bit,’ I said, handing the bottle to Yoseob.
‘Yeah. I’ve always wanted to work with that publishing house,’ Hana said, her eyes lighting up.
‘Seoul would definitely give you more to write about huh?’ I asked to which she giggled.
‘It’s definitely more exciting than here,’ she said as I nodded.
‘They’re also providing lodgings. The thing I’m not sure about is that we will be living the same block of apartments as the rest of the team I will be working with,’ I said.
‘But that could actually be a good thing honey. I think the scope behind that would be to build better relationships and bond more. Not to mention, you’ll work easier together like that,’ she said.
‘You think I should accept, don’t you honey?’ I asked as I wiped Yoseob’s mouth.
‘Jinnie, this is your decision and I won’t make it for you, but I think, deep down, you know what you want,’ Hana said with a smile.
‘You’re the best honey,’ I said, standing up and walking over to her to give her a kiss n the cheek.
‘I know sweetie,’ she said, making me chuckle. ‘After all I am married to World Wide Handsome and Smart,’ she said with a wink.
‘Yes you are and I am married to World Wide Pretty and Smart,’ I said, grabbing her by the hips and pulling her closer. She laughed as I gave her a quick kiss, only to hear Yoseob laughing loudly.
‘Ohh are you laughing at Mama and Papa huh?’ Hana said as she went to him and started tickling him.
‘Honey he just ate,’ I said, even though I was unable to stop my laughing.

‘Oppa, this is a once in a life time opportunity for you and Unnie,’ Kyung Min, my little sister said as we sat around the table in the garden.
‘I know Kyung Min, but I’m not sure about leaving home – leaving you and Eomma and Appa behind,’ I said.
‘It’s not like you’re moving to the other side of the world. It’s just a train ride away and we can visit you in Seoul and you can visit us here,’ she insisted.
‘She’s right Joonie. We won’t be that far and we can visit as well,’ Boram, my fiancé said.
‘What about your work sweetie? I don’t want you to uproot your whole life because of me,’ I said.
‘Joon, you are my life and my home is wherever you are,’ she said. I heard Kyung Min groan as she looked at us with a pout.
‘What’s with that face?’ I asked as I sipped on my drink. She sighed once more before she leaned forward.
‘Hearing you two talk makes me remember how single I am,’ she said, still pouting.
‘Aish you’re so cute Kyung Min,’ Boram said, squeezing her cheek. ‘Don’t worry. You’ll find a boyfriend one of these days,’ she added.
‘He better be a good lad and you better make him meet me as soon as you start going out. I don’t care if I am here or in Seoul. I’ll walk it home if I have to,’ I said.
‘Yah! Oppa, I’m old enough to make my own decisions and choose a guy for myself without your need of approval,’ Kyung Min said but I shook my head.
‘No matter how old we grow, you’ll always be my little sister who I want to look out for and protect,’ I said.
‘I know Oppa and I love you for it,’ she said, leaning forward to give me a kiss on the cheek. ‘Now, don’t stray from the subject, let’s talk about this job opportunity. Oppa, please tell me you’re going to accept,’ she said.
‘Well, they are offering me to be the head Medical Examiner for the team. I’d get my own lab and work my own way,’ I said.
‘It’s always been a dream of yours honey, so chase your dream,’ Boram said.
‘What about your dream hmm?’ I asked but she shrugged.
‘I’m a doctor. Trust me, hospitals are always hiring new people,’ Boram said. ‘And I might have sent an application to Severance Hospital already,’ she said with a giggle.
‘Maybe we do need a new chapter,’ I said, taking Boram’s hand in mine. ‘We should start packing,’ I said to which she nodded.
‘I’ll help you,’ Kyung Min said as I smiled at her. She looked at me with a proud smile, but I saw her eyes glaze over.
‘What’s wrong Kyungie hmm?’ I asked as I reached for her hand with my free one. She shrugged but squeezed my hand.
‘Nothing. I’m really, really proud of you Oppa and I’m really excited for you but I also know I’m going to miss you a lot,’ she said and I nodded.
‘I’m going to miss you too buttercup, but we’ll talk often and I’ll visit often. Just remember, if you ever need anything, come to me, okay?’ I asked.
‘Okay,’ she said as she stood and came to hug me. I laughed as I hugged her back while I pulled Boram into the hug as well.
Yoongi
I sat on the rocking chair, Bong-Cha on my chest as I rocked her to sleep. I looked over at Areum who was getting dressed to go to her office.
‘I can never say this enough. You look so hot in those office outfits babe,’ I said, causing Areum to turn around and look at me. She smirked as she reached for her earrings.
‘Thanks babe,’ she said. ‘Have you thought about what you’re going to do about that job offer?’ she asked, as she turned back to me.
‘I don’t know. It seems like a good offer but, I’m not sure. We have to move to a new apartment too,’ I grumbled, pointing out some of my worries.
‘Babe, we’ve been talking about moving ever since I was pregnant with Bong-Cha. This place is rather small, especially if we want to make our family bigger in the future,’ she said with a certain tease to her voice.
‘I definitely want our family to be bigger,’ I said as she looked at me fondly. She approached me and sat on my knee as she caressed my cheek.
‘I don’t mind having a mini you next time,’ she said. ‘What else is worrying you hmm?’ she asked. I sighed and nodded.
‘You really know how to read me like an open book, don’t you?’ I asked and she laughed.
‘We’ve been together since we were teenagers yeobo. We’ve went through some stuff together – good and bad. I feel it’s safe to say I know you well,’ she said.
‘You do,’ I said. ‘I’m used to working on my own and now I have to work with seven others. You know how I am about working with new people,’ I said.
‘Yeah, it takes you some time but you’ll do well. I know you will,’ she said, wrapping her arm around my neck and kissing my cheek. ‘I know you will because you’re amazing at what you do and because you’re driven and kind and you care about the work and the people you’re helping,’ she said.
‘You always know exactly what to say huh?’ I ask and she shrugs.
‘I have to. It’s part of my job and charm,’ she said, making me chuckle.
