Jungkook
I paced outside of the emergency room, all sorts of thoughts running through my head. I couldn’t lie – I was scared and worried about Misun. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath just as Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok, Jin, Jimin and Hana approached me.
I took a quick look at them as I saw Jimin’s stitches on his forehead while Jin walked slower than usual as he held onto his wife. They were a little banged up but they were going to be okay. I wished Misun could see them, I knew she was worried about them.
‘What happened?’ Jin asked as he looked at me worriedly. There was no sign of his usual smile. Instead there was concern, but also fear. It seemed fear was a common feeling among us.
‘Jungkook you can talk to us. Tell us what happened,’ Jimin urged as I sighed. I was fighting so hard to not let the tears fall.
‘We…we went to do the arrest. Obviously, things got ugly. Misun knew Cobra from when they were teenagers it seems. Cobra almost got away but Misun went after her. They must have gotten into a fight but Cobra’s knife had poison in it,’ I explained.
My heart was racing as I thought about the last few minutes I was with Misun. She had been slipping into unconsciousness, even though she was trying so hard not to. She had grown pale, like the life was draining right out of her. Her body was burning and covered in sweat, even if she was shivering. She looked as if she just wanted to burst out crying, but was trying to keep it all in.
‘Did you say poison on the knife?’ Hoseok asked while I nodded. ‘Damn, what year does she think she is in?’ he commented, almost as if he was mumbling to himself.
‘Could be a signature weapon of hers or something,’ Namjoon explained with a shrug.
‘Might explain why her name is Cobra in the first place too,’ Yoongi commented. ‘Did the doctors tell you anything?’ he asked but I shook my head.
‘Nothing. I just brought her here and they took her away to the emergency room. Hyung, is your fiancé still working the ER?’ I asked, turning to Namjoon.
‘Yeah. Most likely she’ll be taking care of her Kooks. Don’t worry too much,’ he said. I knew he was trying to make me feel better but he seemed worried just as much as I felt.
‘Damn. It feels like everything that could have gone wrong with this case went wrong huh?’ Hoseok asked.
‘We have to deal with the big cases and that means bigger risks. Let’s just hope they have an antidote,’ Yoongi commented.
‘I’ll go get some coffee for you boys. You’re probably going to be here for a while,’ Hana offered.
‘I’ll come with you to help you carry,’ Hoseok offered while Yoongi also stood up. Jimin came to sit next to me as he placed his hand on my back.
‘She’ll be okay Jungkook-ah, she’s a strong girl,’ Jimin whispered.
‘I didn’t have her back hyung,’ I said but he shook his head.
‘I’m sure that’s not the case and I’m sure she doesn’t blame you either,’ Jin said as he came to sit on my other side.
‘She was so scared hyung,’ I added. ‘In the car, she seemed terrified. I know poison can make you delirious and mumble stuff but she was really scared,’ I said.
‘The important thing is she was not alone and she was brought here immediately. The doctors will help her Kooks,’ Jimin said as he rubbed my back.
We waited for another hour and by this time Taehyung had arrived with the Captain and the Chief. Everyone looked just exhausted. Jimin and Jin had both dozed off on the chair, most likely because of their own painkillers. They had refused to go sleep and rest in their rooms until we had confirmation that she was going to be okay.
Hana was also sleeping, her head on Jin’s shoulder. Namjoon was dozing off and getting startled again. Hoseok wasn’t asleep, but he had his head leaned against the wall and his eyes closed.
‘What do you think is going on in there?’ Taehyung asked as his leg seemed to bounce. I shrugged, not sure what to answer.
‘I don’t know hyung. I just hope that as soon as a doctor walks out they tell us some good news,’ I said.
‘Hmm,’ he mumbled in reply. He leaned his head back but I knew he was not asleep. I tried not to think of the fear and anxiety I was feeling. I did not want to lose another important person from my life.
I heard the door opening and I instantly sat up. The motion and noise must have woken the others. Soon everyone was up, surrounding Boram, expectantly waiting for what she was going to tell us.
‘Jagi, how is she?’ Namjoon asked as he took a step closer to his fiancé. Boram smiled as she grabbed Namjoon’s hand and squeezed it.
‘She’s going to be okay. She needs some time to rest but she’ll be just fine,’ she explained.
‘Thank God,’ Jimin said as he breathed in relief. ‘What happened noona?’ he asked and she sighed.
‘We needed to put her through a process to clean off the blood from the poison. She had a high fever but that calmed down too. Luckily, she was brought in quickly so there wasn’t any permanent damage done to her body,’ she explained.
‘Can we go see her?’ I asked, looking at Boram with hope in my eyes. She smiled and nodded.
‘You can all see her but she’s resting. I’d rather if only one person stays for the night if you want to stay,’ she explained, almost as if she was reading my mind.
‘I’ll stay,’ I said, quickly as the others smiled and nodded. As much as I trusted Boram, I was not going to leave my partner alone in her time of need. I needed to know she was okay. I needed to be there for her.
‘We’ll go rest in our room and then come see her in the morning,’ Jin said as Jimin and Hana both nodded in agreement.
‘I’m okay knowing she’s okay. I’ll come see her in the morning too,’ Yoongi said while Hoseok nodded as well.
‘I don’t want us to create a ruckus and end up waking her up. I’ll go home and get some sleep and then see her in the morning,’ Taehyung said.
‘We’ll do the same. Captain Sejin and I still need to finalize the case anyways,’ the Chief said.
‘I’ll wait for you babe and we’ll go home together. I’ll visit her in the morning,’ Namjoon said.
‘Okay jagi. I’ll go change really quick and we can go,’ Boram said as she gave Namjoon a kiss on the cheek. The two of us walked to Misun’s room until we stopped right in front of her door.
‘Thanks for everything noona,’ I said. She smiled and held my shoulder.
‘Kooks, it’s my job to save people and even more so when it’s someone I’m friends with,’ Boram said. ‘You really care about her, don’t you?’ she asked.
I shrugged but nodded. ‘She’s my partner,’ I said, not wanting to deny it. ‘She’s someone important for me,’ I admitted.
‘I could see that,’ she said with a warm smile. ‘Kooks, I’m going home, but if something comes up or if you need to ask anything, don’t hesitate to call me, okay?’ she asked.
‘Okay noona,’ I said as I hugged her. She rubbed my back, almost in a way that older sisters do until she let go. I turned back to the room and took a deep breath, before I opened the door and walked in.
I walked towards the bed where I saw Misun laying in the bed, sleeping peacefully. At least now she wasn’t that pale and she was no longer shivering, meaning her temperature was back to normal.
I sighed as I reached for her hand and took it in mine. ‘Aish princess you scared me, well, us so much earlier,’ I whispered, not wanting to wake her up. ‘The last time I was that scared,’ I began, as my mind circled those horrible memories. I closed my eyes as I shook them away and focused on Misun. ‘Please get better soon princess,’ I said as I sat down on the chair.
‘I’m going to be right here Misun-ah,’ I told her, as if she could hear me. I grabbed the blanket and covered myself with it. I removed my shoes and put them up on the bed as I closed my eyes.
